Dune is the best science fiction series of all time. The original Dune series runs 6 books long, and then Frank Herbert died. His son Brian and another author, Kevin J Anderson, wrote three prequel books to Dune, and then three more that take place over a thousand years before those. Recently they wrote the long awaited 7th book in the Dune series and I am currently on that one. I have read all of these books, except for the one I am on currently, many times. I cannot get enough of the Dune universe. Once you start, you may very well find yourself hopelessy lost in it forever.
The original Dune is a mind blowing book. I loved it to no end and read it three times back to back.
The six prequel books are absolutely wonderful. My favorite top ten books of all time consist of mostly Dune books. I am an absolute Duneaholic.

Hello, my name is Tarkus and I am addicted to Dune.

Oh, and The Lazarus Effect is great stuff too. Also by Frank Herbert. I still need to get and read The Jesus Incident. I know, I know, I read them out of order....

Oh, and 2001: A Space Odyssey is a classic, a must read. I also enjoyed the Rendezvous with Rama series by Clarke.
The Hobbit was good too, read it more than a few times. I absolutely hated the Lord of the Rings trilogy though. The Hobbit was way better in my opinion.

Can anyone recommend some really good books? I'm not into sci-fi / fantasy, and prefer fiction. Catcher in the Rye is my favorite book :) or any kind of knowledge books that make you think about stuff.

I practice speed-reading

and I am not able to do so when I am baked

however, if I am bored, or its a rainy sunday and I have nothing else to do, I occasionally will get baked and read an intriquing non-fiction.. not much of a fiction fan, stoned or sober.

Also gotta give props to Stephen King

The Stand, It, Pet Sematary, Salems Lot, Dreamcatcher, The Shining, The Eyes of the Dragon and others are all great reads, I am actually going to start the Dark Tower series soon as I have heard great things about it.
