Malawi Style Cob Curing.

Holeshot

Just some of those lovely cobs of coarse. Not sold on the taste yet. But the power is stronger and seems to last longer . I actually think the light one was the best.Just love the Panama.!! Had a bit that was curing for a while. Even though it was a little dry , it is a very good smoke, seems to be a little heavier than before

Mozambique

Mozambique

This is the first of the knocked up plants, I have taken down a Malawi gold, Mozambique and Mulanji/TT that are heavily seeded and just taking up room for the stars of the show my GT and Zamaldelica seedlings that have gone straight into 11/13 because I am in a hurry and have nowhere else to put them as the Swazi's are taking over the place.
Anyway I did a quick 1 week cure on some Mozambique bud I took last week, and i like what I see. i am hoping to get a couple of big DP sticks ha ha. (DP Durban Poison) The cured bud smells of menthol and aniseed.

Hi Holeshot I got lucky I hope, the Swazis I have are very stretchy which you would expect but have some nice buds forming. I just hope they are potent enough.
They still have about 12 weeks to go flowering maybe more.

I can't wait to see how those cobs turn out for you. Im sure they will be excellent as always. Lets see those seedlings some day too. One of these days I really need to try out more Ace gear especially the GT.

Hi Dave I think once your into quality genetics they all turn out good once cobbed, its just like having a rainbow of highs the more you have in the cellar.
I have been busy today turning what most would consider 3rd grade worth only making into oil. Into i have very high hopes will be a dynamite trippy voyage into Alices wonderland once cured and chewed, as is my need.
If I had really well grown buds it would just get that much better. i am like a meth drinking version of Aqualung on the Jethro Tull album ha ha.
I always like making my cobs tripping its the best, if not messy, way to it, or anything really now that I am thinking about it ha ha.

Did I tell you the smell of the Mulanji x TT is Pineapple and menthol but the pine smell is so astringent it cleared my sinuses and lifted my head. Luckily I have hundreds of seeds ha ha.
Its going to fuck me up so well. Its like the best Malawi smell i have ever smelled. It will cure to strong pineapple with a disinfectant type hit. Its good trip written all over it.

I got 2 fat cobs of each plant thats one gift and one for me from each plant. Couldn't get better. The good thing is if you dig the smoke from the cob you have like a thousand seeds in it win win.

24hr cobs

24hr cobs

This is a cob of Mozambique made from buds that were dried on the plant for 2 days, then cobbed and sealed in a vacuum bag and sweated for 24hrs at a constant 50c
When opened the cob smelled sickly sweat from the fermenting and sweet aniseed from the buds.
I took a sample which is stringy like rolling tobacco and damp. Once dried to smokeable stage it should be awesome
The cob was returned to sweat in the vacuum bag for a further 24hrs.

Cobs

Cobs

I have decided to dry 3 of the 6 cobs one from each strain and re seal and vac the other 3 to continue curing but at room temp for another week or so.
There was a lot of water in the bags as you can see from the pics.

Wow, this is such an amazing thread. Thanks Tangwena!!! :thank you: I remember in my naive high school days, we had a friend who grew up in Africa and whose parents used to grow. He used to take a little bit of theirs and share it around our group of friends and I remember it being the most amazing smoke I'd ever had, but wondering why it looked so different. This clearly explains it.

It really amazes me that this process seems toinvolve decarboxylation, as you can eat (well, chew) it very successfully afterwards. That is such an appealing thing to me and I'm sure a lot of others, especially on a medicinal level. I'm really wondering if there is anyone out there aware of the actual chemical process that occurs during this curing method that doesn't happen using the traditional jar way, clearly there is a big difference.

As a micro grower, this appeals majorly to me. If there's anyway to maximize the very little amount (a good 30ish grams a run) I can grow, I'm all for that. I suppose the best way is trial and error, but given my grow space, I'd love to know if there's any 'tips or tricks' that you generous lot could kick my way for the less Sativa oriented strains?

I'm currently running a Panama x DC cross (50/50) that seems to be more sativa dominant. From what I can see this seems to work best for the full sativa strains, but my girl seems to be expressing a lot of Panama traits over the DC, aside from the very dense colas. Is there anything I should be aware of as a first timer? I'll probably only be doing a small amount for the first go, perhaps a half-o, give or take a few grams. So I hope you helpful people can guide me in the right direction. The way she's smelling right now, I'm only hopeful for better and I hope to bring you people a half decent comparison of Jar vs. Cob cured buds.

Hi you are going to have a nice plant by the sounds of it. I too only grow small amounts and when cured this way and eaten/chewed an ounce lasts 10 times longer.
There are reasons why it works, its the same as curing tobacco its done for the same reasons. Madjag a respected member here and very experienced in just about everything is a big fan of chewing cob. He will be getting some of his cobs analyzed when he harvests his next crop and they have cured properly, so that should provide the data you seek.
But in the mean time dont worry just bite the bullet, if you follow the method to the letter, you will not stuff up I assure you.
The effects chewed last all day and medicinaly thats a good thing, recreationaly its an even better thing. Its not hard to do and great fun.

Stringy type cob cure

Stringy type cob cure

This is the stringy type of cure, it retains the smell of the herb better than the hard cobs. It is well suited to airy sativa type buds.
Very terpy taste and speedy trippy high.

I am trying the Mulanji TT cob the first one with the shortest cure, its the best high ever so far. I am still going up strongly after 1hr, and feel over the top happy and full of energy its what I need right now its been raining all week and the suns just come out.
