Major Earthquake In Japan Major Tsunamis

I don't mean to be a thread nazi, but let's all avoid 2012 discussions. Those comments are completely irrelevant.

Earthquake at 8.4 - 8.9 magnitude has been said.

Live Stream: http://english.aljazeera.net/watch_now/

Status: Biggest Earthquake to hit Japan in 300 years.

There are too many reports saying how many people have died. At this moment the number is officially over 500.

I know this isn't the majority of Americans, but there is a disproportional amount of Americans who say and do things like this.

I don't blame the people. There isn't some special magic aura that changes people when they walk onto American land. But I do blame media for teaching their own people to hate and turn into arrogant people. Even people in Canada that watch American news believe anything that is on CNN and FOX, etc. A half day later, the story changes and then they believe that 100%.

I'll never understand peoples' stupidity I suppose. No wonder I find myself moving towards misanthropy and so many others. If you care for the world, you have to hate people.

I'm watching the footage of the waves sweeping across the coast taking everything with them. The devastation is incredible. I hope the northwest coast of North America isn't hit too hard. Geologists have found evidence of massive waves that hit the N. California and Oregon coasts centuries ago. They think it resulted from an earthquake which hammered Japan in the mid 1400's.

This is the worst natural disaster of our lifetime. We should all pray for the people of Japan and offer to give whatever we can to help.
Watching the Tsunami on tv wipeout highways full of moving traffic and entire cities. This is crazy and so tragic, times like this make feel like growing weed is not so important.

Times like these shows us that nothing is important, but really looking at the 'big picture'.

Instead of advertising big brands and creating conglomerate corporations and worrying about celebrity, people as a whole should be focused on disaster preparations, space exploration, and education.

Times like this reminds us that we are nothing but animals that by chance have the opportunity to live intelligently. Yet everyday we ignore our intelligence and replace it for greed and self-indulgence.

While these disasters are eye openers, they do not compete with human ignorance. Proof has been provided recently with tragedies such as Indonesia Tsunami and New York WTC, flu epidemics, etc. These affected everyone around the world, yet after such short time, the warning they heed is forgotten.

well Japanese are well versed living with this being right on the Ring of Fire ..but this is a major shake with damage in the billions ....loss of life & great effort for rebuilding .
What an incredible scene to witness....wow look at that flooding , some 1300miles of
the coastline hit .<G

(as far as the bigger picture , do we include the mass extinctions of species too, going on right now ? And just very little time left for many to survive man's encroachments too?)

Heart goes out to the Japanese they'll bounce back ...& thank heaven all,
for the protection of all God's creatures too...

Yes, absolutely. We should preserve nature and all species. Eradication is a terrible thing. Deforestation can be reversed, but eliminating the habits that go with deforestation can not. Thank you for bringing that up. Except the God thing.. that doesn't comprehend with my beliefs. But we do not need to go into a religious discussion.

Regardless of our religious or spiritual beliefs we should all pray for the people and animals of Japan. My heart goes out to the helpless dogs. I love dogs.

big forces at play in our world & just this last century we just graduated as one of
them ... for man can do as much to alter the face of the world as nature
in some cases...

OMG !!

They're just showing that one city getting hit with that first wave, massive wall of water ...absolutely wiping out everything in its path ....oh this is a MAJOR thing !

It is pretty bad in Japan, I have been there several times. Although they seem so advanced in many ways but others (like this) they are not. Other recent earthquakes that they have had caused much suffering, and they were dependent on US and other countries for relief. Similarly with volcanoes. Here is a recent shot of Japan after a tsunami hit following the quake.
