Lots of weed today tastes straight up nasty

For me falling down a rabbit hole of paranoia is not beneficial for self reflection or pleasant. After 30-40mins I think what was I even thinking..?

Back in the day when all I had was imported sativas I would be stuck with a bag of paranoia inducing stuff and smoke it all. Now days after getting mentally beat down 2-3 times I just choose another strain.

I have said for many years to friends & acquaintances, that the paranoia primarily comes from the fact that for most of our lives -and still is for many - that we are 'taught" that marijuana is bad and that we could get in big serious legal trouble. There would be situations with friends & girlfriends when they were having paranoia episodes. I would tell them relax, you are adult - the cops are not going to kick your door down for smoking a joint in your home - you are not going to be taken away for being stoned.

Paranoia is ingrained in many due to the illegality for years.
Even after having a med card for years and now fully legal here, I find myself taking cautious measures and sometimes doing some slight worrying - then realizing that I am doing nothing wrong.

So relax and enjoy getting HIGH from some great sativas ! :tiphat:
None of the paranoia has ever been justified as no harm has happened from what you were smoking. Healthy risk reduction, if you live in un-legal land, is very important also !

Wet trim is a problem? I didnt know that ,my weed tasted just fine the best weed i ever smoked, but i wil change to dry trim if more people confirm this.

I think wet trim is only a problem if it dries too fast. My RH in winter is about 40%. Mine will be crispy after 3-4 days hanging. Now they take 7-8 days before they go in jars to cure. It was a lot easier to leave the leaves on and trim later than trying to raise the humidity. I only harvest 1-2 plants a month for personal so it’s not much to trim.

I have to agree that most stuff I buy these days all smell like a slightly different chemical.it also always looks like it was machine trimmed but that’s another problem. And. That’s why I grow my own and I’m always happy with it.

I live in a legal state, before MJ was legal here it was a petty infraction($70. fine) less then J-walking. Ignored by law enforcement.

With that being said I have no environmental paranoia. I do have access to hundreds of strains many of them sativas ! Some strains just cause paranoia for me and many other people.

I have sampled hundreds of sativas south of the border, imported and grown domestically. I usually try a strain 3 times because of other factors such as setting, energy level and ? astrological alignment that day ? If it give me paranoia 3 times, it is the strain IMO.

I used to always hear people say "I stopped smoking weed because it makes me paranoid" Now days in legal states we say "You need to try another strain"

When you use a smaller space, and control the humidity better, you'll be able to wet trim again. :) As you pointed out, leaving the leaves on creates higher levels of humidity.

When the drying speed is controlled and kept the same, dry trimming presents a bigger hassle without any additional benefit. I prefer trichomes on the bottoms of my jars, not bits of leaf and trichomes. ;)

Hey Douglas,
I actually enjoy the dry trimming process over wet. Person thing. I find it less messy and I can pick at it over time when I feel like it instead of all at once. I’m in bad shape from a work accident and it’s hard for me to sit long periods.

Was just trying to point out to Cristocel420 that if he can dry them properly wet trimmed then there’s no need to change anything. I guess the point I wanted to make was how much of a difference a slow dry has made for me in taste and smell. Happy holidays

Yes, everybody has different body chemistry and can react much differently to different strains. Most people I have encountered that had paranoia issues had paranoia from smoking any MJ. It was first getting in trouble with out parents, getting in trouble at school, getting caught by the police, the barrage of "just say NO" and the govt lies about MJ, that leads to many peoples paranoia issues.

I used to smoke some of the premium sativa's back in the day, I really enjoy that sativa rush & energy. Good idea on that smoking a strain 3 times to see how it personally affects you.

Careful drying & curing, will give the best results. That crappy dispensary bud usually is so pumped full of chemicals & dried way to fast to make $$$$ fast - that is the shitty taste.

Had some Lemon Larry from a dispensary recently that surprised me lol It actually tasted great, excellent lemon flavor. Friends thought I grew it.

A good 2019 to all ! :tiphat:

Trimming is always a chore, I hear you there. That being said, I medicate a lot, so I like to be quick about it. When I'm trimming, I'm going to be there anyway so I do the best job I can. I really dislike picking bits of stem and leaf off of a flower before breaking it up. Then picking out additional stem and leaf from the crushed up pile.

When I'm trimming, I can snip those leaves off at the base. I can't do this cleanly dry trimming, it creates a rather large mess. I pull a finished flower from the jar, crush it gently between my thumb and a couple fingers, push the pile into a pipe and gently pull the central/single stem out. Bam!

Right now I'm picking leaf and stem and seeds from some donor cannabis. lol Wow, I'm spending a lot of time per day on this now.

We’re probably on really different scales. I only have 6 plants in flower and 4 in veg. I usually cut a plant or two down a month. And there only 2-6 oz on average.stran/training dependant of course. So it’s not much to deal with.
To be honest I don’t weigh anything. It’s just personal to save money.

And I totally agree about the finished product. I hang them for a week then cut the buds off leaving a little piece of stem to hold it later and place it in an airtight tote till I feel up to trimming. Then I trim over a kief box and place in jars to cure for a few months. If I don’t smoke it first lol.
I smoke a lot too between what I grow, my medical from broken coast in BC(tastes/looks good) and the new recreational up here in Canada(mostly tastes/looks like crap so far), good example of bad growing and curing right there! But at least it tastes better than the illegal dispensary stuff we had for a bit before the law changed this fall.

How would you have dealt with it?

It depends on the situation and cost versus reward. How far into flower the girls were, lots of things. Every situation is a bit different.

My point was you can kill the lil fuckers and still have meds that test clean, you just have to choose the right bullet for the game you are hunting.:tiphat:

I am specifically asking for a solution that completely eliminate the pest without ever spraying a drop of anything othee than water on a flower. I am well aware there are several options that may work. I am not even slightly interested in producing a product other than cannabis. So adding a product is against my rules. So please. Share with me how a large grow fixes a pest problem all the way. And do not list something thay someone has to spray on it or use systemically.

In my opinion (mostly fact) everyone prefers an untreated clean finished product. Im not trying to see how little a product affects quality. Its too much.

It was first getting in trouble with out parents, getting in trouble at school, getting caught by the police, the barrage of "just say NO" and the govt lies about MJ, that leads to many peoples paranoia issues.

My personal theory and belief is that cannabis is a complex medicine with dozens of different cannabinoids in a single strain, each strain has its own cannabinoid profile. Cannabinoids profiles create different highs, sleepy, energetic, clear, foggy. With every kind of high(effects we like) you also get side effects(effects we don't like) cotton mouth, paranoia, bloodshot eyes, etc.

A humans receptors are all slightly different and cannabinoids/mmj affects them different but many cannabinoids profiles tend to effect people similarly a crossed the board.

In the last couple of years I have only had a couple of strains that gave me paranoia to an unpleasant level. They were seed stock from a Europen seed bank LSD, strawberry cough and a fake blue dream. Personally I think they were low grade genetics.

I have a friend who smokes mj for anxiety she is more sensitive to paranoia. Most of the sativa dominant OGs give her more anxiety but the indica dominant OGs make her anxiety go away.
I love sativa dominant OGs , so she gives me the OGs that she doesn't like. Different receptors with different cannabinoids.

Sativa domimant ogs and caffeine gave got me trembling more than a few times. After a few years of messing with it. It seems like if I start drinking coffee all day for a few weeks instead of limiting my intake to mornings. Sooner or later Ill end up having a big session and sure enough I can feel it start. Just knowing the pattern took care of most of it.

Some booster in the market totally change the taste if you use it a lot.
I was a fan of canna pk13/14 for a while but if you grow it really organic you see the big difference in the terpenes and taste.

I dont buy any booster no more only canna bio boost sometimes.

Try to grow your weed only with npk and vitamins and you will see not only better taste more money stays in your pocket. ;)

Simple always seems to be the best way. I find canna coco a&b and a little cannazyme in flower gives an amazing final product. Nothing else needed.
I have the pk13/14 as well but the bottle is almost empty and I won’t be replacing it.

Agree the perfumey thing is pretty rough. I don't know if it's the plant, an adulterant, or a means of smuggling, but it's gross, along the lines of wrapping weed in flavored cigar paper.

I used to get paranoid a lot as a kid, you were constantly anxious about the least random person knowing everything about you and suddenly you're in trouble. Later on, not living in a legal state, but once simple possession was de-criminalized, I have never cared. Have not found a particular kind of weed that actually causes disturbing emotions.

So in some respects, some of the brick stuff is just as well worth having as indoor commercial. You have no major expectations about it, so when it gives you the same buzz for an hour or so that leaves you feeling tired, you don't complain.

The stuff that seems to be going on these days is bizarre, if not perverse.

Another thing about the old weed, or most of our homegrown, is that it virtually squeezes out gobs of juicy resin as it burns. The bottom of a bowl would always be shiny. Most of the perfectly manicured expensive stuff does not do this, and just makes a crust of crumbs. Maybe that is unflushed.

The only additive I can say I knew for sure was baking soda. That was on my introduction to Northern Lights. The guy who had it said he sprinkled it in there so "your weed will bake instead of frying". Not sure I ever got the point, but, at least it was not as bad as some of this other stuff.

Personally I have no interest in a "weed package store". Vastly prefer coffeeshop idea. A thing where you at least have some option to socialize instead of driving away to hide in another confined box at home. If you wanted to, you could do that anyway, but this stuff like "well, you can't actually smoke anywhere in Denver" is just...it's...I don't know how they even come up with stuff like that.

If some cannabis is naturally a bit fruity or something, fair enough, but why anything like that would turn into a big deal is beyond me.

i've run across a pheno that had a lot of perfume to it, grew organically and the smell was good
little strange though, never encountered that odor in cannabis before
now the taste, that was really different, not to my tastes at the start
there was some bitter going on, not overwhelming but damn different
and then i got used to the taste, and after that i began to crave the taste
never tasted good, no sweet in there, but did kind of soothe the soul

Some products in the market got molasses in it.
You should avoid them too they make your weed tasting like " cotton candy".

If you use high dosage of molasses in a mono grow and you will search good phenos its more difficult because it taste near same.

Dont use more than 1ml/L from molasse if you are are "a fan" from sweet tasting strains if you use more than 3ml/L+ you get heavier buds but the taste is ruined never be the same.

Better give the plant more potassium than expensive shit.

I have asked you a few times how to deal with this and not spray or treat flowers? Seems like you are ignoring me. I would appreciate a response otherwise I assume you actually are agreeing with me.

I use Brer Rabbit Blackstrap Molasses - I sure do not overdo it. It does not negatively have any effect on taste nor have I ever noticed any strange aftertastes - that Brer Rabbit brand is an excellent source of Calcium, Mag, Iron & Potassium.

Really work great on strains that are N sensitive, like sativas.
Has no N, where the Cal/Mag bottle stuff has significant N.
