Long-time cannabis use linked to psychosis: study

I'm from Australia and I wouldn't trust any study involving cannabis conducted in Australia. The government here is so anti, it's more likely to be a political funded study that is far from reality. There are dark forces in Australia that oppose all forms of cannabis. I imagine that pharmaceutical companies wouldn't like medical marijuana in Australia, because our commonwealth funded pharmaceutical benefit scheme helps make their medicine affordable to all Australians. If many were to switch meds to MMJ - there would be a lot of coin outta the purse of drug companies. Unfortunately it seems that while the rest of the world is going forward with decriminalising cannabis, Australia is going backwards quickly.

My main point though was...... don't trust any study involving any forms of cannabis that was conducted in Australia. It's all political huff 'n' puff!!!

The CBS affiliate out of Dothan, Alabama reported that "a recent study of over 3000 participants found a greater incidence of psychosis among people who smoked marijuana as teenagers". They must have been talking about this "study". I imagine they got their their screwed up "facts" from some story they picked up off the AP newswire. It really pissed me off. But then, you have to consider the sources of it all. There are most definitely forces that seek to undermine people knowing true facts and reality so those forces can better promote their own agendas. Propaganda is a very real and powerful thing, and this extends to many other walks in life. Not just anti weed. But sheer stupidity and keeping people ignorant sure helps. Especially when trusted sources like this spread the lies. Now, where did I leave my tin-foil hat? I need it.

But as for the Australian STUDY, I couldn't give a rats ass either. Like I said before, these aren't results from a test, they're politically funded B.S.

Actually, that's about the most reasonable conclusion I've seen.

If someone has symptoms of psychosis, they run a higher risk of developing it, and should be careful with any psychoactive substances.

It's not saying you're gonna be psychotic if you didn't already display some signs of it before.

same article on msnbc cept it says "Previous studies had also suggested smoking cannabis can double the risk of psychosis, but the British study was the first to look specifically at skunk. Skunk has higher amounts of the psychoactive ingredient THC which can produce psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions and paranoia." Watch out the gov added a new word to their arsenal...Skunk. It must b potent!!! lmfao

You have to look at the 21 question Peters et al delusional inventory. The questions could be taken a lot of ways and if the people administering it are inexperienced or not familiar with what constitutes a certain answer for a question, or how the points are tallied the they can get very misleading results.

Thank you for pointing this out. I was going to post something myself. These tests for psychosis are almost as much junk science as this study is. I'm constantly amazed that this is how we take stock of where a person's mind is at sometimes.

Just looking at these tests, I'm sure a lot of you would realize that you would definitely answer some of those questions differently if you were stoned. It doesn't mean you're a psycho, it just means you're stoned.

Unfortunately for me this has proved to be true. My father passed down the genetic predispostion to psychosis and after a few legal issues in my life here I am at 20 just being diagnosed for Bipolar Type II disorder. Definetely won't happen to everyone but me and mj have to take a long break for a while.

That link shows you every side effect of almost every over-the-counter and prescription med that has been popularized in the last 80 years. If you take notice, Death is the side effect of many of these drugs and not only death, but Sudden Death.

You will not find "Cannabis" or "Marijuana" on that list, but I've never heard of a direct association to death from the smoking of marijuana. I've heard of cannabis causing heart attacks in people who are prone to heart attack. I've also heard and witnessed myself harsh psychotic breakdowns from people after smoking cannabis, but those individuals had severe anxiety problems BEFORE they even knew what cannabis was.

I also tend to notice the ones I've seen go through some psychotic behavior upon smoking marijuana are habitual germ-a-phobes and hypochondriacs as well. These are merely observations from people I have met and smoked with.

The simple fact is that marijuana use since the 60s has increased dramatically, where as instances of psychosis have not. For that reason alone, this study is bunk.

Give me the opportunity to cherry pick my subjects and I can present data that shows that smoking marijuana can cause anything from bad gas to brain cancer.

I've been smoking off and on for 30 years and when I watch the news I think that it's our leaders and our institutions that are mad not some down to earth folks who use a herb that dates back millenia to recreate and medicate. How about all the time we spend chasing money, worthless scaps of paper based on trust in Bankers? Now that's psychotic!
