I'm jealous of allsuseguys rockin a freak flag! I unfortunately started going bald when I was about 25 and currently sport a nice 5 inch diameter spot on my crown. Didn't lose any up front so I don't appear bald from that direction. Growing long hair in this situation results in a look that just ain't too flattering. I definitely have a long hair personality though. :)

Now If only I could grow a beard.

I wish I could give you mine, Harry...I cut off the "middle of my back" hair and the beard around 1983..Kept the mustache til 2 years ago, when it started sprouting out gray...

My razor blade bill is killing me...
I'd rather be spending that dough on some nice micro-brews...

I'd definitely grow a "Lemmy"
or maybe a Victorian strongman's handlebar, and wax it daily.

I admit, part of growing my hair out was not being allowed to for so long. It is thinning quite a bit and slowly turning white (my beard and stash have been mostly white for a long time) My missus is in charge of telling me when I start looking like an idiot (my hair is thinning in the back where I can't easily see it). Then I'll go back to the buzz cut I sported in the AF. It remains to be seen what I do with my beard. I've had a Van Dyke for about as long as I've been growing my hair, but recently got lazy and started letting it grow out. I'm liking it longer, but it does require more dexterity whilst eating.

I know what a Victorian strongman's handlebar is, as I waxed mine up several times when the beard was shaved.
I stopped waxing it 'cause it drew more attention than I cared for..

But what I'd like to know is, What is a "Lemmy"?

Sort of like a biker tache that goes down the sides of the mouth, like a goatee with the chin bit shaved but also connected to some fabulous lambchop side burns. Named after it's most famous proponent, Lemmy Kilmister from Motorhead.

I am growing mine out, I have straight hair

I had it to my shoulders a couple of years ago, lady said, yeah you got the job... if you cut your hair

I really needed money

my friend (haircutter) made a pony tail with it, cut it (aye, it hit a spot)
and she was showing it off to the other hair cutters, "look what I cut, look what I cut!"

she noticed that I felt bad about cutting it, but I wasn't miserable, I just said... well it's a new time, a time of change, a good time to bring other change

I am growing it back now, I like the idea of doing what I feel like doing, it's sort of a freedom thing

another friend who cut my hair said that I have nice hair, and If I grew it out it would be nice

it's the inbetween part that makes you look like an idiot

I remember when I cut my old dreads off, I woke up the next day and regretted it immensely. Partly because I wanted to still have them, and partly because going from dread head built in wooly hat, to shaved "daan ter't wood"** in November, isn't much fun.

** Yorkshire dialect. Daan ter't wood = Down to the wood = lowest clipper setting.

I imagine you must feel much lighter without dreads on your head

one of my buddies said he cut them because it was starting to get a drag to carry

I'm actually in the process of going dready again. 2 years since since I chucked me brush away this month.
It's a bit Mick Hucknall at the moment, ie normal hair on top and a few dreads underneath at the back.
When they start weighing me down, I'll probably trim em, because I don't have any special reasons to have dreads, other than I like em, and the pierced tattooed dready chicks do too, s there is no religious/spiritual impediment to me trimming em when they get heavy. It's just a hairdo.
