Hey guys, sorry it's been forever since I've updated this. I've been very busy with irl shit.
Honestly, there's nothing too exciting to report as of late.
My flowering tent is full of Purple Dream x Blue Tara....
here's a tent shot(sorta, bottom plants got cut off a bit):
the back 2 and front left are Purple Dream x Blue Tara
these buds don't get super fat, they actually stay quite small... but they're dense as fuck.
I'm not sure if I'll run this strain much longer. I do like it's growth, it's fairly vigorous in veg and literally doesn't stretch in flower. The high is decent, the smell and flavors are really lacking though. Great plant, but it's nothing special, off to hunt through more of these seeds though!

Hey BadRabbit, The 707 Headband was eh. It's got amazing smell, solid yield, and decent potency.
The bads are definitely what kills this strain for me. The flowering time the first time around I ran it was around 72 days. Around this time, it started purpling up, and stacking on weight. but when I took it down, it was hermied to all hell. I was fairly certain the hermie-ing had absolutely nothing to do with me... so I ran the 707HB again, but cut it down around 60 days. Around 60 days the plant hadn't changed color, or looked like it had gone into senescence but I chopped anyways. cutting it early resulted in 0 seeds.
TL;DR: It was decent smoke the second time I went through it, but it's definitely not worth the headache. Especially if the genes aren't strong enough to finish properly.

sadly I am not running the COB LED's. I'm using the mars 2 1200. I'm loving it though. The yield is no where near my HPS, but I'm still doing fine. As someone who doesn't grow huge rooms, and the electric bill IS a factor, I'm pleased with the results.
I wish I had my old genetics that I grew under HPS to get a true comparison on how it's performing.
oddly enough, right before I switched to LED, my garden got fucked by mites and the strains/clones I had were not salvageable. While I was running HPS I had some killer genes rotating. I had a massive Dream Lotus, one of my favorite Purple Dreams (was able to throw some pollen at it before the last run(thankfully)), and an OG Kush that easily yielded 7oz tucked in the corner of the tent.
If you're looking to "go green", or don't want to spend the money on HID energy bills then I'd say go with the LED.
but if money isn't a problem, then I'd still be on my HPS - at least for the flowering stage.

I never used a COB setup, I've only ever used an HPS, Mars 2, and a small PlatinumLED fixture. I Like my LED's and I would recommend them... So if you have a chance to get a COB LED I'd snatch it up if it's a solid price.

we'll see what happens if my friend does get his medical card, we're in Israel so the process of obtaining one is long and painful. I'm thinking if he gets it and decides to sell me the LED panel he has, he will give it to me cheaper than I'd expect, he's as cool as they come... he was ran over a car as he was getting to work at about 6:30am about a year ago and has some nerve damage and appetite loss, he's in his mid 40s, so his chances of getting the card are pretty high, we'll see.

My biggest recommendation is to keep an eye on the plants late in flower. You may need to chop before it looks done. The first time I ran it, I let it go to senescence and that's when all the awesome colors started popping out. I think the genes of this strain can't handle the long finish, that's when it starts to hermie to preserve itself.

I'll put my plants up somewhere when I get it going, or I'll just drop back here and plop it on the end if you don't mind. Seeds are just busting now - I still have hopes for this one. Some folks dump on HSO, but I've had several of their freebies turn out to be nice plants (Desert Diesel just recently .... 1 seed, sweet diesley plant.) Thought I'd grab of few 5 packs and give it a real test ...

No sir! I grew out 1 freebie twice. second time was a clone, and I just chopped early - before it started turning black/purple.
I have heard a lot of hate on HSO as well. I grew their Blue Dream a couple years back when they first hit the scene (at least on the tude), it was my first ever grow too and they turned out beautifully! not even close to Blue Dream, but still damn good smoke... especially for my first ever grow. I think I got somewhere in the 6oz range with a 600w HPS, and a 5gal bucket.
I have also grown their OG Kush, and that was one hell of a plant.... I didn't even have to take care of it all that much. I just left it in the corner of my tent and it would yield ridiculously huge and dense nugs.
HSO is definitely not on the elite level of breeders, but I would take them over most of the shit I've got from greenhouse seeds, or barneys farm. nothing but nightmares with their stuff.

and to answer your question, well, it is the Israeli hospitals and universities that have done and are doing amazing research on cannabis, not the government! quite a difference
but to be fair, the government does allow said research to go on with minimal opposition...now, the government is pretty much like most government in the world, ran by politicians and not by scientists or academics, and hence their policies as to who can the state allow to receive medical cannabis is pretty primitive, and still holds on to old unscientific claims about the nature of cannabis and still spews its share of anti-cannabis propaganda.
why is this so? who knows, my guess is that they, like all other governments, are protecting the black market.

Regards HSO, I've heard some very authoritative sources (including other established breeders) sticking up for them lately and saying they really do have elite cuts that they work from ... I'm just going to judge it by the plants I get and not worry about the politics of it.
So far, my hit rate (finding nice plants) on just their freeby seeds are better than most of the "elite" geneitcs I get from breeders with great rep on icmag ...
best to keep an open mind, IMO.

oh absolutely! I agree 100%, I've grown out their blue dream non freebie, OG Kush, 707 HB and 2 others that were freebies. They were all great comparatively. Just like with any strain and/or breeder, you're going to get some great stuff in the beans, it's just a matter of how frequently you're going to get a good plant and how stable the genetics are. a lot of the freebies I've come across had hermie problems or just didn't have a good smoke.
So yes, I agree, you should always go in with an open mind and not worry about the politics. as I said I liked the 707 HB, OG Kush and Blue Dream.... just not enough to keep it going perpetually.
