For smaller orders on botanical powders, extracts, oils, etc. Mountain Rose Herbs in Eugene, Oregon is often the better option. Fair prices and solid people to work with.

Horse Chestnut - $8.00 for 1 lb.

Here's a story that NPR did about this company which might give you more confidence in their business model and products.

I tried that site, but if you look at the photo, it's not horse chestnut POWDER. Am I missing something?

On a side note, I got an iPad mini yesterday. Excited to start using it around the Farm. Is there a program that can create checklists that I can re-use (for feed inventory from different suppliers)? It would be so nice to be able to have a static list of feed, that I could click on to add quantities for ordering purposes.

Any other pointers would be great. I got evernote, but haven't started playing around with it yet. My primary reason for getting it was because I hate reading pdfs on my computer.

Backlog of questions for Coot:
1. Activated dry yeast foliar - smart or dumb?

2. Made my own diastatic malt powder - steep in tea & foliar, mix in soil, both, or neither?

3. Any info on Maxfields organics? Soil company based here in CO - im working to help them understand the weed market & industry for a new mix theyre putting out - some good shit going on including what appears to be an actually proprietary organic amendment if I take em at their word. (They asked me not to make it public but I'd love to bounce it off ya in group or PM)

Kyle Kushman's a load of misinformation...I for one don't care how cute or ugly anyone is....I do however have a sense of regional style.

I clean up the lower canopy before going into flower,otherwise all leaf stays on. Once in a while a big ol fan leaf will block a flower from light,in that case it is removed. Plants make leaf for a reason...photosynthesis!!!!

Totally agree....I would add that the lower fan leaves will fall off naturally when they don't have access to light or through natural senescence in flowering (varies by cultivar). In the Pacific NW though, where powdery mildew is so prevalent, I have found that if you get too dense with your leaves that air flow is restricted, it's damn near impossible to prevent PM. If that wasn't such an issue, I would love to just leave as many leaves as possible on the plants.

Given the controls in place on the Sphagnum peat moss harvest in Canada, a small soil company has only two choices for creating the 'blank soil base'

1. Buy straight SPM and your aeration component and have that mixed at one of the contract soil packing houses up and down the highway in Oregon

2. You buy one of the mixes from Sun Gro Horticulture. On straight SPM they have around 12 different versions most of which do not apply for growing annuals. The Sunshine Mix series (1 thru 4) is but one product line of this type out of 5. Again many of these mixes are used for different situations than growing annuals.

You can take any potting soil mix and from reading the label, narrow it down to what's actually in it and you could find that in a Sun Gro catalog which is about 2" thick.

Having true custom potting soil mixed involves an up-charge because the mixing machines have to be cleaned prior to your batch being run and again after your job is completed. The industry is not set-up for 'pin point proportioning' as one company claims. It just doesn't happen that way. Not when the price point is tightly established as it is by the national grow store distributors. The only way to make money is to develop a 'nute program' and there you will make nothing but money - serious money.

The USD$650.00 jug of AN's Big Bud contains 2 mineral compounds which would cost you less than $10.00 - S&H charges extra. And that's from an online hydroponic supply company who aren't doing anyone any pricing favors themselves.

There is no profit on potting soils and Miracle Grow figured that out decades ago and set-up today's cross-merchandising for potting soils.

Sell them junk and then offer a line of products to make it work

Hard to knock success...

i guess that kinda answers a question that i had...which way to go when choosing a base if spm is not available.

i was about to mix up another batch of soil but when i went to get the spm it was frozen rock solid. it must have been drenched in rain before it froze because it was super heavy. so my other option was to purchase a pre mixed base... i guess #4 should do...?

what do you guys think would be a good mix using one of the generic base potting mixes?

i was thinking approx. 45% sunshine #4, 35% ewc, 20% aeration.

I do a couple trims. I take clones from under the canopy right before they go into flower and then once the ´stretch´period is over I will trim under the canopy once again to free the plants of any drag. I call all the leaf under the canopy ´drag´ it is useless. As far as the main foliage goes it stays intact until it sheds it naturally. If there is a big leaf blocking a bud site I just bend it under or around but do not remove it.

yeah I have always taken the bottoms off.. but my canopy is getting dense would you just tuck the leaves under and lose out on light getting below them or trim them? I would never think of trimming leaves off but untill now Ive never had such a tight squeeze going on..

How far down does the light penetrate? its pretty much a scrog without the net anyway so all im looking for is the top buds should be ok but just thought id ask :) thanks for those that replied

w89 i dont think you will have any problems w/ room & you could school me on trimming pruning and defoliation probably {any pruning i do consists of top'n mothers and tak'n cuttings}

anyway; yeah i'd just tuck not prune unless like gas pointed out an unruly fan leaf kept getting in the way of light {but you do see where i m coming from right?}

you will be seeing flowers very soon i can see that funny growth that *almost* looks like flowers at the tips ~could be just about done w/ 'the stretch' though some strains keep piling on flowers @ the growing tip all cycle long {fox tail anyone?}

oh come on unclefishstick keep hanging out w/ us its getting to be time for you to do some full TLO runs anyway right?
