There's more than one Blueberry? Or is that a general name for a type of weed like saying Mexican or Hawaiian vs being an actual strain?

...not at the time...this was just where DJ used his male BB to hit the Indiana Bubblegum from Sagarmatha...turned out great, won cups...made me shit on of $..way back when.
EDIT: Correction...there is more than one Blueberry now...but they all came from DJ's

here's a stupid question, not intended for the expo experts Cann, ( though, that's some funny stuff right there)

What's the difference between Calcined DE, Turface and a Medium/Coarse Diatomite,

Because,
Bonsai enthusiast have used Turface, a Calcined clay material in their soil mixes for years (way before closet cultivators started buying NAPA floor dry). so have baseball diamond groundskeepers. And the right sourced DE has Bentonite or Montmorillonite clay in it right?

then, some Orchid/Epiphyte people may use a Medium/Coarse Diatomite ( it's DE just not ground up to a powder) as a substrate, maybe some Bonsai guys and gals may have used it as well. -->

not sure if using Calcined DE is similar, I don't use it.
but, maybe the NAPA floor dry has something in it due to processing/packaging that just won't wash out... kinda like herpes.

Interesting...I do wonder if quality has anything to do w/it. I have used DE in my soil as an amendment at one point. The idea being to gain benefit from silica, calcium, and the insect control properties....meh.

I was just wondering... I'd assumed the Calcined DE wasn't too far a cry from the real deal (Turface) just poorly handled. but, I dunno, I've been busting up bags of red lava rock for days...

I've got a couple of questions but they're probably not appropriate for a public forum having to do with their personal genetics. Talk about true genetic drift and proof that diversity is a good thing.

You can only breed with blood relatives for 'x number' of generations before strange things begin to show up.

Begs the old Q; 'If your father divorces your mother, is she still your sister?':biggrin:

turface is calcined CLAY,#8822 is calcined D.E.,completely different.that said,i've had #8822 in my organic mixes, both in and outdoors for 3 years at about 5-10%,with no issues.

The Vital Earth Manna Mix potting soil that the veganic crowd is all excited about? Here's part of the description at Vital Earth's web site: Manna Mix consisting of a superior blend Vital Earth's Coconut Pith, sphagnum peat moss, perlite, pumice

Think back about 3 years ago when an amateur grower posted about using Sunshine Growers Organic Mix in the 2.8 loose packs vs compressed bales? Remember anything like that? He was a rather nifty lad indeed!

Here - let me help jog your memory....

40% Sphagnum pea moss
30% Organic Coconut coir - Sri Lanka
30% aeration mix consisting of Perlite, Pumice, etc.

Remember that at all?

LMAO

CC

Cootz,

do these guys just stalk you on grow forums and devise products based on your info? minus the worm castings of course because you're just dead wrong about that shit. really though...who in their right mind would even consider using "poop" to grow plants?

if that trash "kushman" makes his way north of the border, i will personally send him back to the USA in a plant available compost form.

I had never got into the BB craze..........I seen every swing dick buying that stuff when Dutch Passions released DJ´sn gear. I went with the Sag. gear and Sensis before it changed hands. Had some old Positronics gear also. Menard had the best MK there was. Did grow a BB cross before.

calcined clay and calcined DE are very similar. but, Turface is better for soil. since it is CLAY.

Using this material is nothing new. maybe the NAPA #8822 can boast an increase in sales due to literate stoners, but the material and equivalent have been used for many years in horticulture.

The Napa near me has Moltan brand "superior oil absorber" made from calcined montmorillonite. It's a fairly chunky and a flinty texture that I use at 25%. I've mulched gnat infected plants with decent results. $4.50 for 40 lbs.

Given the controls in place on the Sphagnum peat moss harvest in Canada, a small soil company has only two choices for creating the 'blank soil base'

1. Buy straight SPM and your aeration component and have that mixed at one of the contract soil packing houses up and down the highway in Oregon

2. You buy one of the mixes from Sun Gro Horticulture. On straight SPM they have around 12 different versions most of which do not apply for growing annuals. The Sunshine Mix series (1 thru 4) is but one product line of this type out of 5. Again many of these mixes are used for different situations than growing annuals.

You can take any potting soil mix and from reading the label, narrow it down to what's actually in it and you could find that in a Sun Gro catalog which is about 2" thick.

Having true custom potting soil mixed involves an up-charge because the mixing machines have to be cleaned prior to your batch being run and again after your job is completed. The industry is not set-up for 'pin point proportioning' as one company claims. It just doesn't happen that way. Not when the price point is tightly established as it is by the national grow store distributors. The only way to make money is to develop a 'nute program' and there you will make nothing but money - serious money.

The USD$650.00 jug of AN's Big Bud contains 2 mineral compounds which would cost you less than $10.00 - S&H charges extra. And that's from an online hydroponic supply company who aren't doing anyone any pricing favors themselves.

There is no profit on potting soils and Miracle Grow figured that out decades ago and set-up today's cross-merchandising for potting soils.

Sell them junk and then offer a line of products to make it work

Hard to knock success...

It seems to have worked out that way in Southern Oregon around Grants Pass...

I thought it was the entire Midwest???? In the state I was formally living they have a blood test law prior to getting married.........to prevent inbreeding there. lol

Maybe Kyle has hired Honey Boo Boo to run the site but that can't happen until she's potty trained....hopefully completely unless there's a new veganic product line in the works.

:) wow guys...y'all got up early this morning eh? 4 pages while I was sleeping LOL good work.

bout to head to the cup in a few hrs, cootz you can PM me that question if you want...I'll ask it.

and yes von, subpar looks just as douchey as kyle...if not worse. cootz nailed it with that screenshot...perfect representation.

and MrS I don't think DJ short is either short, or a DJ...lol. I didn't see him directly yesterday just heard him talking on a mic while a massive crowd surrounded him.

I can't believe all these people are called "gurus" and "world class breeders", "master cultivators" etc. this industry is wack...

no earthworm castings??? are you kidding me....? lol lets take the most important aspect of the soil and remove it completely...replace it with some alaska "humus" (best quality humus out there...) and were set to grow dank buds - Veganically

For those who are curious about Kyle's Special Sauce (cause aren't we all?) the ingredients are as follows:

Soft Rock Phosphate, Humic Shale, Molasses, and Kelp.

The ever important NPK value is .75 - 2.15 - 2.10

And of course your proprietary blend of bacteria and fungi - bacillus, paenibacillus, pseudomonas, streptomyces, trichoderma, etc.

after seeing how little these "gurus" know, I am glad that I know where the true gurus hang out. :tiphat:

cootz...when is your new website gonna be launched? cootzorganics.com LOL. I would trust your opinion more if you were selling something....that seems to be the mentality these days for some backwards reason...

EDIT: honey-boo-boo's composted doo-doo's is the next product line from kushman...since honey-boo-boo isn't actually an animal, her waste is 100% veganic. certified veganic of course...

Living organic soil from start through recycling

Fuck it - I'm not gonna even try to catch up today LOL

Cann - how's the cup? You're right - a lotta overhyped terms get thrown around in that scene - it's all marketing, and until I started talking with this group I was never ashamed to be a part of it :)

DJ is neither short nor a DJ - he's kinda tall & lanky. Sub makes Kyle look un-ridiculous by comparison.

Cannaventure seeds guys are great and everything we've popped from them has been impressive in every aspect - find em if they're there and send my regards.

re: Blueberry - GC - do you know if moonshine's Old Blue is from DJs? For some reason I thought it was a different line, but I could def be wrong.

The REAL question is: what do I have to do to convince folks to come out to the Denver cup in April - it's the "first US cannabis cup" so all the characters will be out. Passes on me, of course.

And we could potentially do our own little event in tandem as well.

I would make the drive to Denver in April...especially if there was a small ROLS gathering...did that bbq ever happen that was being discussed in the early pages of the thread? i always wonder...

Just put a new driveline on my 87' toyota pickup - so she should be down for the trip to Denver. Although last time I went to CO my transmission went out...lol.

So far the cup is pretty good, besides all the ridiculous humans in the mix...great people watching and cultural experience though. I'll keep my eyes peeled for cannaventure seeds.

Thanks again for the passes :tiphat:
