Good discussion all,

As mentioned dolomatic lime is the perfect type of lime for our favorite herb, it has a proper Ca to Mg ratio and is user friendly.

As Oblidio proves with his beautifull plants that in the right hands Hydrated lime can be a fine solution to your grow but I agree that it can interfere with certain types of soil microbes.

On my bag the Calcium Carbonate is 53.94% and the Magnesium Carbonate is 45.36%

Sound good man just use it at 2TBS per gallon of soil mix.

Peace

I bought some hydrated agricultural lime. It said to mix one tablespoon/gal. of water, and use once a year. I mixed only about a half teaspoon and it did, in fact, burn the shit outta my plants (they were young, about two ft. tall). They are alive, but hurting. Be careful w/ this stuff, and do the proper research before doing anything to your sweet, tender ladies!

I just bought some pennington lawn and garden fast acting lime. I am just wondering if this stuff will work the same as dolomite lime. It contains 38% calcium, 95.5% calcium carbonate, 1% moisture. It says its prilled from calcitic limestone. Should I use this stuff even though it does not contain any magnesium carbonate or should I just return it and buy real dolomite lime? Thanks

If you can get dolo lime, you should. Definitely.

But if forced to work with the fast acting lime, personally I'd shoot for amounts that are 1/4 of the dosage recommended in most soil mixes for dolomite lime.

i.e. if the soil mix calls for 1 tbsp per gallon of soil (dolo lime), I'd cut that down to 1/4 tbsp (hydrated/fast lime).

But if dolomite lime is within your reach... reach for it! :)

I am just going to return it and get some dolomite lime. I rather not mess with anything thats not dolomite lime. Thanks for the help

I used what Foil bought and I don't think it will last long. So I might go buy some hydrated lime because thats all they offer at my garden shop. Unless someone knows an online store to buy some dolomite lime. :)

Hey Foil thats where I got the Fast Acting Lime from. I already used it though. I'm just gonna give it to my dad for the grass.

Thanks BillyBa79.

yeah I thought lowes only had the fast acting lime, but when i went to return it I found that they kept the dolomite lime outside in the garden center instead of being inside.
