Another angle to test strains response to leds could be test unit with dimmers, so you could adjust the spectrum with strains that don't seem to respond as well with certain rations. That of course would take a lot of testing and don't really know if that's really worth it. But I'm just speculating, I don't know.

from my founding skunk#1 strains don't do so well in order my older led grows. i don't know if this is true but i haven't had any luck with them. i would also like to say i think different led company's lights have different strains their lights don't like.
this is just my theory so nobody hold me to this.

my pint exactly. you need allot more then 21w per squar foot. multiply units is the way to go if you want big yield.

i would like to see a plant in ur garden with no toping and just some lollipoping to see how big you can get the top cola. that would be kinda cool, put all that energy into on big bud.

For buds like the one I just showed, you would want to have at least 40W per square foot of LED lighting. The 205W puts out about 35W per square foot, while the new 345W will put out over 50W per square foot.

As far as growing 1 cola plants, that would almost be going backwards. With LED the goal is to create an even canopy, with lots of large head colas so you get good yield. Growing 1 plant without topping/training is a recipe for low yields, although you may get 1 large bud out of it. Thing is, I have about 6 buds on this Maui plant that are all around the same size as the one in the photo, while the one in the photo is the largest. I don't feel that the main cola would be much if any larger, by growing a single-cola plant, meaning I'd miss out on all those extra big head colas on our current one. Anyhow, our next grows will be Scrog with LSD/Yumboldt (haven't decided) and a SOG with Autoflowers (we won't be training the AF's). Both grows will be starting in about a week, so long as those tents get here quickly!

let me remind you that SOG is one cola plants usauly just allot of them..lol. so why would you do it if its going backwards with leds? but i am talking about lollipoping. you still get many branches, but just biger buds with no sucker branches. what i meant is to see if you could get a huge cola to beat ur other bigger one. i think scrog and sog are a very good way to grow with leds. i will be doing some LST on my next grow.

Glad to see the thread back open Irish. Ill be doing a SOG with 16 topped plants coming here in the next couple of days using 360 total watts of LED. Its all about the perpetual IMO when talking about LEDs and not a ton panels because your average person cant spend that much cash plain and simple. Basically put for people to achieve decent results you have to break the mind set of growing large plants your conventional way like you would with HID.

yup SOG is a good way to go with leds but its worthless to me because i have a plant count where i live. so i keep it legit. thats why i am going to do some lst plants then after that ill do a scrog.

and i agree you have to change things when using leds. since ur right the avarge person dosent have a few grand to buy that many lights.

Irish, Do you have a final dry weight on the grow?

no i am pulling them tomorrow. i was letting them ripen a little more without the fans leaves so i could hit the lower buds with more light so they would ripen also, since they didn't because of the shading from the leaves get as much light. just checked them and their done ripen how i like them. now their going 24hr darkness. then it will be a week or two until their fully dry.

man i just read this thread from beg. to end and i gotta say it was harder to read than most but this isnt irishboys fault at all... overall Irish i wanna say great job on being subjective with both sides and tryin to run a real test ( i loved how you had to keep answering the same questions about training like 35 times ha)... this thread isnt even complete yet and ive still taken away alot from it...thanks for allowing us that cant afford to just go out and buy one to be able to see its results and then decide
peace

Hey Ribsauce, Where did you see the results posted? I went on a couple other sites where Irishboy posted this same grow and couldn't find dry weight anywhere. Please, let all of us know.

45 watt difference and 10 gram difference! The HGL coulda pulled 100 grams + if it wasent for that tall plant raising the light on us!!!

Thanks Irish! That's how I am going to report all mt weights from now on. On the scale....

Inspired!

Not bad, those figures sound comparable to what generic grower might get with 250w hid with tall plants, when not using sog, scrog etc.

like i have said a hundred times both lights were the same hight 12" from the BD. you have to also take into count that the 180w HS was a runt.

the 126w HS was a best and packed on some weight.
i would recommend that strain to anyone. its a nice yielder.

just glade i got this test over with side by sides are a pain in the ass..lol

i also wanted to thanks both company's for the free lights. it makes up for my yield.lol
