LED and BUD QUALITY

We did have a thread on the headless trichomes a bit back. It was concerning, though I didn't actually look at my buds. IIRC Ca was being touted as a player. It wasn't just laughed out.

Does it still exist? Id love to see it.

I can't see it. Searching finds chat about outdoors with very shrunken heads though, for someones second time, with different plants.
I also see that fast filling thichs can bust open.
I also see, they are made of silicone to a great extent.

I wonder if the headless trichs are usually in organic grows, or one's using silicone supplements.
It doesn't effect me. I'm going to skip this research. I'm still clearing my head for a couple of other papers posted. Where I glossed over on the first run, and somehow ended up looking at gogo dancers on trampolines.

If they are primarily made up of silicon, why would utilizing a Si supplement cause no trichome heads? Wouldnt it provide more available si and possibly create more or larger trichome heads? I supplement Silicic acid for sure, its a major benefit imo.

I'm looking at the idea that fast expansion could lead to them exploding. Which is the term used in a posters comments. No papers were provided.

Still saying the first two pics are completely normal bud with completely normal trichomes. The third pic looks weird all over, but I'd say it's not because it grew headless trichomes. All are low quality images.

It's just random pics of copycat strains, Im willing to bet they all grew under LEDs,
I never saw such a long hair with such a tiny head, not before LEDs came in anyway
The best pic, which is from someone here or RIU grow diary, under LEDs, show this phenomena the best
LED FLOW.PNG

This is how most led buds look like, not saying everyone, but many.
Your bud should look like this:
HPS Flo 2.JPG

Now again it can be just genetics, or environment, but I really don't think that's the case.

Hey,

Stalk with small/less head isn't due to led IMHO. I had this issue with cuts I used to hold for a long time. I couldn't prove it as I'm in illegal country and couldn't find a phytopathologist to test it, but I really think it's due to HLV. These genetics were fire under hid or led but when they started to display symptoms of HLV (dudding, brittle stems, horizontal growing pattern...) I notice this issue as concentrates yields and potency started to decrease.
HLV have been spreading at the same time led have been more popular amongst growers. Maybe there is no correlation but coincidence...

Bought weed without heads could be tumbled doh.

Regarding led, I personally really enjoy them. Spectrum is better, yield is fn great and nobody noticed any difference high or taste wise (maybe a slight change in terpens balance but due to temps differences between these 2 ways to grow IMO)
Last but not least I save a lot on climate regulation. The only downside I noticed (I think I read that others noticed that too) some cultivars seem to take longer to get amber trichomes.

Few thoughts:
-led aren't created equals
-the technology is now mature but comparing leds from years ago and nowadays is pointless. Hell, even the first fixture I've been really pleased by @2,7 μmol/J and same brand @2,9 μmol/J makes a noticeable difference.

My 0,2

Excellent theory overall, we should look more into it, I dont think they show a lot of HLV symptoms, not most of the plants I see with those hairs...
But that's a good perspective to double check.

Yes but we also see a lot when their stillgrowing, see the pics above for reference.

I agree I think most LEDs are shit you see it in the growing and flowering phase but like others have pointed maybe some are doing what they claim to do.

I still think those are because of phone(?) cameras doing all sorts of processing on the images. Phone cameras often take several exposures to combine into one for more dynamic range and sharpness. The camera moves a little between the exposures and the result ends up looking weird. I'm having a hard time believing they actually look like this in real life. Weird worm like squiggly things. I want to see a good quality image showing that kind of trichomes.

This is a crop of the first image.

The breeder is Beleaf, and Chimera is a progeny of White Truffle and The Creature. Super dank genetics from this guy.
Is White Truffle a very low producer??? Saw it listed at 1 - 2 ounce per square meter. I have had GG4 produce 1.2 grams per watt trimmed and dried to 63%.

Id call it medium. My last record of a full 4x8 tray with two agrobars over it was 1620g from 1440w so thats 1.12 per watt. I look at g per sq ft more nowadays. In that case it was 50.6g per sq ft. I love it, super tasty and looks insane regarding bag appeal. It is finicky, can herm when stressed and absolutely could be improved if bred to the right companion. Im hopeing “the creature” adds some stability to the mix. If not, ill breed her to something more stable.

Thanks!! I thought that had to be wrong. What they said would have been 3 - 6 ounces for 4 X 8 tent. Just lost almost everything after battling spider mites for months from strainly seller. Was thinking of White Truffle and Chimera #3 from beleaf and Glitter Bomb. Hoping cuts I took from GG4, MAC1, Gush Mintz, and Fatso will survive. Is it a lite feeder?

Not really, its one of the only ones to fade on me early with the same feed i give everything. GG4 did the same thing to me, looked hungrier than anything else and would yellow out in week 7-8 on its own.
