LED and BUD QUALITY

First grow i ever did was from clones i got from some very established growers. It was 30 years ago.

At that time there was only a few books that described how to grow. Good luck getting a metal halide at that time. There were only a few shops that even sold books on growing.

Not knowing anything I grew using a small domed incandescent 'grow' lamp that shone blue and had a mirrored back bought from the local garden center. The plant 'grew' but had a very irregular light schedule as I was the timer and i was pissed most of the time. There was no ventilation either.

After a couple of months and the cupboard totally covered in gaffa tape I got about 1.5 grams of stringy dark green buds with a few tiny orange hairs but the smoke was amazing. It imparted a red glow to everything and had some real meat to the high.

lol, you keep telling yourself that.. The quality of our weed has a direct relationship with our growing abilities. Doesn't matter what genetics you have if you can't 't grow it well. Most issues in the garden are caused by the grower. If the plants are stressed enough all you have at harvest is boof.

So I guess that all of us 15-20 years ago when we knew nothing and grew poorly in shady places with poor conditions (may it be indoor or outdoor) and got killer weed, it was just a stroke of luck ! Boy are we lucky...
LOL that's what I have to say, people today grow with top notch conditions and can't even get close to the poor conditions weed of the past...
But, as long as u believe yourself thats all that matters.

Noooo but it can't be ! It was grown poorly ,😏

I can't afford to keep up with the super nice fluence lights or any of that when I first started looking at LEDs I took what my wallet could afford and I did the best I could with it I've used screw in bulbs that have done me well. I wonder if the soil and the medium I use plays even more of a role than which particular light I use as long as it can get the plant to senescence

I've been growing weed for 50+ years. What I grew as a kid in the 70's isn't even close to the same high quality I can grow today. If I had those old school genetics of the passed I could grow then so much better now. Experiance matters. It's clear you have no clue what high quality vs boof is when all you can grow is boof lol. You kids don't listen to those that know how to grow well. Growing high quality weed is not easy champ. We post the knowledge. If you ignore it thast on you if you refuse to improve your growing abilities.

So many variables.

I got the best results with HPS, rockwool and canna A + B.

No sugar in that...

Old Earth juice and flouros were great too.

I'm just not that impressed with LEDS i suppose. They grow huge buds but i personally find the high is not quite the same. It's almost the same but just a touch more meh, lacking a bit of how'd you say?....Ooomph.

They are very convenient though. They switch on immediately without a worrying hum and the ballasts dont look freaky

They dont take up much vertical space and they also grow some nice bud.

I think i might buy a few of them.

When my 300W maxibright LED system starts to dim a bit on full compared to the other one i have what do I do?

With my CMH i buy another 100 quid bulb, i just put up with the LED degradation.

The lack of Oooomph still bothers me more though but the inability to fix damaged/degraded LED systems and the price for LEDs is

For about ~400 Euro (359,57 GBP) you can build a lamp with the following spectrum and 2 channels. Here the circuit on channel-1 without near UV. Theoretically over 900W would be possible, I adjust the amps so that I can perfectly illuminate from 0W to 580W per 1.44 square meters.

But I prefer to use the 4,200 Kelvin CMH from Adjust A Wing -Hellion for the entire growing season.

The possible alternative to CMH: LED light as full spectrum with approx ~4,400 Kelvin color temperature.

Pic is from led-tech.de konfigurator? Very nice tool imo.

Have u tried the lm301h one? Some guy at grower played around with them. Should be good for a veg light and growing leafy greens too imo.

Does anyone have any information as to what we could look for say we bought a spider farmer 4000 how long will that board last hours wise before it degrades to a level where it's not worthy of using anymore?

These tools, LEDtech.de is one way, offer you the possibility to plan in theory. You must not forget that these are theoretical values that can deviate significantly in practice.

You know that I speak for measuring devices that are available from 100 euros and with which you can make proper measurements in practice. To light for the cultivation of cannabis with 4,000 Kelvin I do not have to say anything?

Personally, I prefer to use the CMH, I have 4 pieces of it, LED I do only by order for scaper aquariums or now and then for a friend cannabis farmer.

With an Android app you can already make good measurements with the smartphone, I recommend going outside and measuring in daylight. Cloudless sky in spring, summer and fall or cloudy, as it knows our beloved herb from Mother Nature.

One comes there to interesting findings that are helpful to get high quality indoor. Separate should be in discussion between high yield and high quality. ;-)

why not use it until it’s dead?
That's normally my go-to mantra I just don't know enough about the technology or if there's anything detrimental to running them till the wheels fall off so to speak but yeah that's normally my go to mindset

I guarantee that I don't use Samsung LM301B /H or one for LEDs, but rather Bridgelux Thrive, Osram Oslon and special products from Seoul Semiconductor and Nichia. Anyone who wants to talk to me about quality in the final product must not use the word Samsung.

New to growing? What Hammerhead says should be made into some kind of short catch phrase new growers can print out and hang in their grow space somewhere.

I grew the best cannabis around for years, and everyone around me said the same... and then I came across actual quality cannabis. Talk about a shocker... comparing my "better than the rest" to "real grown" was like a beat up ford focus next to a brand new jag. Zero comparison except the fact they're both cars.

So... if you've not experienced that ephiphany about cannabis and quality yet, you're definitely not there as a grower. ;)

Years ago I had a geez I think it was Golden Lion seeds gifted to me at a show I don't remember what the cut was and at this point it doesn't matter but I will say thinking that I tried the bees knees when it came to cultivars and being distracted with work so much that I hardly ever got a chance to get in and actually see just how well those plants did. I smoke the flowers for about a week, and then I ended up buying a micron screen and sifting the flowers and giving the sifted flowers to my brother who didn't like real potent cannabis and I would just smoke the sift and give him the flowers and in 2019 we moved and I had like Jesus Christ This is embarrassing, probably 15 different piles of paper with a crease down the middle where I had sifted flour you know probably like a half ounce at a time smoked the sift put the papers on top of one another and just left them on top of the fridge or on top of a cabinet or in the computer room there's someone as we speak right now still smoking on those piles yeah what a rabbit hole good cannabis can be huh?
