Leaves twisting with some burn and some purple!

HEY STITCH <THANKYOU><THANKYOU><THANKYOU>

I appreciate the response, as it seems that not too many peoples on icmag know that much about pH.

I was about to take your advice and get the pH down, when I was in the kitchen yesterday and my lady was cleaning out the frig. I saw her take our 1 gallon brita pitcher out of the frig and she asked if we really needed it in the frig because evan after we put the tap water through the filter it still tastes bad??? Kinda like pool water. Anyways, we have been buying drinking water since we moved here last July, so I said no we don't really use it so take it out of the frig.

And then it hit me, I took the tap water I had sitting on the counter aerating to get the chlorine out and waiting for me to go get the pH down stuff and I dumped it in the brita pitcher. I tested it while I was waiting for it to pass through the filter, it read like 8.7-8.8 like it has since I got my tester. Then when she was done passing through the filter I tested my filtered water to compare and it read 7.0-7.1. Then I went to work and came home 8 hours later and I test it again and found no change in the pH.

Now the filtered water has been aerating for the last 24 hours and I just measured it this morning to find the pH went up a little bit to 7.7.

Ok so I am finding this:
Tap water: 8.7-8.8 straight out of the tap.
Brita Filtered Tap Water: 7.1 stays constant!
Aerated Brita Flitered Tap Water: 7.7
Aerated Tap Water: 8.7-8.8 Not filtered yet!

So do you think I could aerate my tap water for 24-48 hours then the day I give them the water or mix my nutes into the water I just run it through the Brita filter first to get my pH to 7.1 and this should take care of my pH problems???

So far I am convinced, unless some one can tell me that Brita filtered water is bad for my plants.

Thanks,

The Brita is removing some mag and cal which is the cause of the higher ph. No need to filter this as your plants need mag and cal.

If your municipality uses chloramine, bubbling will not get it out. Your water seems high in the ph and this is either because it is hard with lots of minerals or it is treated with chloramine, not chlorine.

Mix your water and all ferts first, measure ph, then add ph up or down as needed to get the water down lower than where you want the soil to be.

Start with 6.5 water/nutes and measure runoff. You will need to keep adjusting your water to counteract the soil and get it down to where it should be 6.3-6.5 runoff. As it gets closer to ideal you won't have to adjust your water so far out and eventually your ideal ph water in will make ideal ph runoff.

Your runoff will tell you what to adjust your nutes to next time. Record your ph readings, nute ph, and runoff ph. I printed out a calendar and I write in those details, plus nute doses everytime. This gives you a nice long running picture of ph to work with.
