Leafblowers

I think leafblowers should be more regulated. I would love for them to be banned sure, but I'm not sure they would be.

But especially in neighborhoods.

I think neighborhoods should come together and have a certain day when landscaping companies can work on the site. That way, you only have one day out of the week where you'll hear the dreadful leafblowers...

The rest of the week would be peaceful.

Or...maybe we just need to invent technology that literally stops the vibrations. We can go to the moon but we can't stop cars and engines from making noise?

I agree with the fact that that kind of noise can be annoying as hell- let alone if you are trying to sleep. But I swear to God the next person that tells me what I can and can't do on my own property is going to get it. If 'the man' tries regulating one more thing because of the actions of a few 'mos, I am going to effing lose it.

Might I suggest talking to the offending neighbor about it some day? Real nice, like. "Mr. soandso- no biggie, but I was wondering if there was any way you could ask your landscapers if they might be able to..."

Huff I agree...

But the problem is leafblowers create PHYSICAL sound waves that literally hit your eardrum..

Its like your neighbor came over, walks in your house, and proceeds to play a stereo in your face.

Its one thing if the sound was localized...but its not.

So its not really "on your own property" at that point...the sound suddenly travels to all properties all around you, invading their space without anyone's consent.

If the sounds from leafblowers are annoying, then might as well ban city plows during the winter too! I mean, they go by at like 5:30, so that when I go to work I can drive safely. Wakes me up it's so loud! Shakes my place a bit too. The nerve of the city to do that when important me is trying to sleep! Oh wait.....it's for my own benefit so I and everyone can get to work safe and easier. I get it.

lol Sometimes ya just gotta deal with it dude. If I want to do something on my property at say 9:30 a.m and you may be sleeping, I'm supposed to know this? And not do something I'm fully allowed to do, on my own property, that I paid for?

dude if it's 9:30 in the morning you should know that everyone is sleeping. come on now, who in their right mind would be up that early? you gotta wait til at least noon, that's when us normal people wake up ;p

My dad has a big yard with a lot of trees. He's over 60, his little rolley leaf blower enables him to take care of his own yard like he likes to do. Yay leaf blowers!!!

Umm....no. Thing is, I'm an adult. I don't "Sleep in". Sleeping in for me is getting up around 8:30 or 9:00. That's hours later than I have to get up for work. If I wait until noon, then I'll annoy the guy who works nights and just got home. maybe I should just do nothing allday becuase at any point I "could" be annoying someone. See? There is no perfect time. Even if I wait for you, there's always someone else. You can't please all of the poeple all of the time.

ya true, you can't please everyone. i guess the best thing to do is just never ever do anything at home for fear of annoying a neighbor. or else, just do everything you can to please me but don't worry about anyone else. **** the rest of the neighbors. that plan would probably work

I saw Tony from THSeeds hook a leaf blower up to a huge pipe and burn up 300+ grams of bud in less than 3 minutes. Thats was the most impressive thing that i have ever seen with a leaf blower.

the argument is not about doing something on your own property since you paid for it.

if u want to manufacture speed on your own property well...
nevermind bad example !

the point is, noise does not just exist on your own property..it travels far.. and gets into the psyche of people all around.

Its intrusive, more than other things there are.

I thought this was going to be about using them in grows for fans, lol. I thought of doing it a couple weeks ago when I saw an electric one that moves 500 cfm for $20 at sears. Anyone have any experience using one for ventilation? didn't check to see how much power it draws, just throwing the idea out there

true. I'd still like to see someone try it with the electric ones, though. maybe take off the plastic extension part of it and it would be quieter?

to get back on topic, yeah, they are annoying. the neighbor behind me mows and uses a gas powered blower EVERY sunday morning at about 7, the only day I'm really into sleeping in. It's quite annoying, especially since my bedroom is in the back of the house. out all night saturday and into sunday morning, only to be awoken bright and early :bashhead:

If everybody learned to use leafblowers like Tony from THSeeds that would end the problem! Could you imagine the droves of stoners following landscaping crews around all day!!

la resistance- C'mon guy! A leaf blower as a fan?! You DO realize the OP's biggest complaint is the noise, right? As in- It's so frigging loud, the noise is invading your neighbor's yard. And that is outside, with little reverberation. Inside a grow room, you'd be deaf. Ya gotta use the proper tools for any job. I aint hammering stuff with books/shoes and I aint circulating air in my growroom with a leaf blower.

RE: the argument that the noise has extended beyond your yard, and is violating the rights of your neighbors... You are correct, the speed analogy is no good. Legal cigar/clove cig smoke works better. These are the by-products of a legal product which is being consumed on your property. Whilst the smoke may spread to your neighbors' yards, and they may find it offensive, there is nothing that can (or should ever be allowed to) do about it. As neighbors, you should be able to work something out. Failing that, you win, and they have to deal with it. You are a dick, but that aint illegal. Karma's a bitch though.

If some people have their way, it WILL be illegal to smoke a cigar in your yard. Some places have already decided that one's vehicle is no longer a private sanctuary, and they have banned smoking in them. ie: It is now illegal to do something that is perfectly legal, because someone else doesn't like it. The ironic thing, is that the same people who want to ban smoking butts everywhere but under your bed are the same ones preaching tolerance and understanding for all people. I guess smokers arent people...

To me, the notion of banning cigs in public is as absurd as someone trying to make people smoke in public. I feel the same way about open container laws, but those are based in puritanical nonsense, rather than pseudo-science- like 2nd hand smoke hypotheses. These are legal products, who the hell are you to tell me when and where I can use them. You don't like em? Institute prohibition- cuz this is just the first step anyways.

Today you are actually ASKING 'them' to regulate things for you. How about when you're forced into debt, because the law now says unless you have a nicely paved driveway, you lose your house, so you have to put it on the CC... All because the other neighbors decided that they have the right not to look at a shabby driveway, and got a new ordinance approved.

I dunno about you guys, but I aint giving up any more personal freedoms without a fight. Today it is a leafblower, tomorrow a driveway, and pretty soon they'll be checking to see if our rooms are clean before we're allowed to go out to play. What's next? Mandating and then inspecting the fiber content of my shits? Keep giving up your rights, and asking for the Gov't to save us from ourselves, and see what happens...

Yeah, my neighbour always pisses me off when he straps on his jetpack in the morning, goddammit. And when they fire up the hovercraft on sundays...man...
