THEY BEEN HAD THAT, MATTER OF FACT YOU CAN BUY ONE YOURSELF AND LISTEN TO PEOPLES CONVERSION, ONLY WAY TO COUNTER IT IS TO BUY A WHITE NOISE GENERATOR AND IT WILL DISTORT THE SOUND THEY HEAR.

Yea it's true. And sadly, they even advertise cheap versions on TV late at night. There is one product that you can apparently "Hear your friends and neighbors conversations from up to 100ft. away, just point, and listen" and it's just a tiny little ear bud. Prolly costs 19.95.

Personally I'd be less worried about this technology and more worried about the intercom cell phone taps. These are even easier for them to listen to ya with. All they have to do is send a small file that self-installs on your phone and bam, they have access to anywhere your phone is sitting. This means you now have a one-way intercom with the bad guys. Let's worry more about what they can do from far away, not what they have to get right in-front of your place to do.

Just because you can buy pads and a helmet doesn't mean you should join the NFL :D

This kind of toy needs a person there, the FBI is what people tend to think of 'FEDs'. FEDs could mean Congress too, but they all like to know things. The FBI does a lot of Embassy wars, they probably run around all day watching what Embassy's do with their freedom. Embassy's get diplomatic immunity, they can't get charged with anything. This sort of toy wouldn't help anyone on this forum, but a cellular interceptor would. You could intercept any cell phone call within a few miles, track people that you think might be narcing. It doesn't help if they use a land line, but it's good for hearing chatter of specific phones. These can also intercept every cell phone call within range for key words. They cost about fifteen grand, a nice one is made in India.

Personally I like to stab all my neighbours to death and then wrap the entire house in tin foil to stop them from reading my mind. You can't be too careful...:elf:

Most laser eavesdropping involves a specially selected room.
Because of the noise involved, these rooms usually have a window planted in them. A special window with a target area (prism?) of the window that captures the inside noise.

They used this to get testimony (unwillingly) from trafficers in Central America during boom. They would replace a window in a hotel, that would be frequented by said people.

Unless you are carrying state secrets or are a kingpin...

That's incorrect. It does not require special glass. It works on any window. There are some things you control if at all possible - like proximity to outside vibration. Like you'd rather have a 6th floor window facing a quiet side street or alley, rather than a ground floor window along a sidewalk.

But it certainly doesn't require a special window or target. That would be pointless. If you've got the kind of control of a situation where you can guarantee which room and can make modifications to it, you'd be putting in hardwired cameras and mics.

Laser pick ups are used in situations where the subject is in a known location that's not accessible by other means. It's almost a last resort, since it is so prone to interference and signal degradation.

If you can get boots on the ground in the location, you hardwire a better system in place. It's often easier to get guys in and out than it is to get a good quality laser pick up.

Exactly. No one is busting out these toys for a grower. Escobar, yeah. Grower, no.
