What specs would you suggest for the 4x36"? Two of the same ones you got?

I'm going to put in an order

Youll need 3. The mats are 10x12 so each mat is perfect for 1 4x12. Now that i have my mats i probably should have done 11x12.5 for each mat. Its doesnt really seem to matter they dont cover the whole column, its get really fucking warm lol. My column now recovers before my collection pot sitting in 75F water, very quick, very happy :dance013:

Awesome, I appreciate the advice:tiphat:

Are you recovering from the column separately?

nope the column gets hot so quick i can pull my collection pot out of the water around 10psi, and by the time it gets to just a little below zero i can pull the column off and empty it and there's barely any vapor left. then i just dip my collection pot once or twice to get the butane liquid exactly where i want it then pour out my golden soup.

Heres a pic of the two 10x12 mats on my 4x24 column for reference.... Like my velcro??? lol. It works, ive been busy and haven't made it to the store to grab some band clamps(muffler clamps)

See how my end arnt laying flat?? Thats bad for the mats, that section of the mat gets about 30-50F hotter then the sections that are flat on the column. Laying them flat is important for longevity of your mats... Well thats what the old guy at brisk heat told me at least

It is true. The mats get too hot and will burn out quickly if not in contact with a surface to pull the heat out of them.

Just thinking of nearly free solution: maybe try an ace bandage to hold the edges down? A really wide one would go on and off fast.

The Band clamps are like 8 bucks each so needing 4 isn't bad, but the ace bandage would be cheaper. I'm thinking i might just stick with velcro but the double sided stuff and wide 3 or 4 inch straps instead of what i have on there. It was a random what i had laying around rig up. I didn't expect these mats to come this quick and was excited to use them lol so i used what i had on hand. The velcro hold up to heat a lot better then expected.

How about a couple of long bungee cords spiraled around it like a barber's pole? Amazing how much abuse bungee cords can take, might be worth a try...

GW, having it my way, would you recommend a more specific wattage per sq in? I remember you recommended 2.5 for the columns and 5 for the collection chamber heat when they were the standard option. Now im getting it from keenovo or the one you recommend and I manipulate my own size and wattage.
Also, what is the best thermocouple to use on these bad boys?

I dont know why i went with so high of a wattage for the column but im glad i did. This is the reason: When im done with my last pass and turn on the heat mats, with my collection pot is sitting in 60-70F water(gotta love winter lol) when it gets down to about a half inch of liquid, my pressure is at -7hg and my column is HOT. I can close off my column and pot and take my column off and it has very little butane vapors, and is warm in the center. With my 4x24 and using -30F butane the 5.8w per square inch is very nice to have as i dont think the 2 or 3w would do much. The 5.8w isnt stiff to wrap around the column of anything either. Now that i think back, The high wattage wasnt my idea but keenovos. Once i explained what i was using it for he suggested we up the wattage but gave me the same price as the 3w per square inch. They are very helpful over there, knew exactly what i was talking about.

^^ I also had a good experience with keenovo. I am trying to design an oven vac that will actually work with the heat mats and they have been extremely helpful. They also were able to do some tricky configurations so I can use one heat mat to heat the bottom and walls of my collection pot.

Also I got 4 mats for the price of 1 briskheat. Hopefully quality is on par when I actually get them, damn longshoreman strike.

And @ dab strudel I think pretty much everyone is going with the common type K thermocoupler.

I stuck with the hot water bath for my collection pot as i heard things about hot spots from the collections pots.

Heating the column turns the liquid butane trapped in there to vapor so we can recover it.

And I heard the same things about the heat mats giving hot spots but keenovo assured me they would be up the the challenge but they also mentioned the importance of installing them correctly, they actually recommended that I get it factory annealed. I only plan to take it up to 80F at most so even with 20 degree spikes I should be within my limits.

Our supplier only offers in 2.5, 5, and 10 watts per square inch but you can order any size.

We use a type J or K thermocouple, depend on application.

I'm going to message them about 3 of these when I get some time today.

You suggest the 10"x12" right? Should I ask them about welding the thermocouple into it? Any other specs that I should specify?

Thanks A6 and everyone else. This will be a major help

You can ask them about molding the thermocouple into the mat. Let us know what they say, I forgot to ask. The 10x12 leaves about an inch between the end of the mats. I think its fine like that. Now that I have them I could have gone with one piece then spiraled velcro down the tube to hold it on. They arnt as thick as I thought they'd be. What are you doing for temp control? The cheap mechanical or a nicer digital? The mechanical one works fine but the temp sensor is a stiff metal wire lead that's kinda annoying.

If you go with one mat, for a 4x24 column you'd need a 22x12 mat. Maybe 13 if you want the ends to almost touch, the whole tube warms up either way
