HI guys (and gals), time for a semi-weekly update. I'm very happy to say that I've got 10/10. Amazing, considering that I came home on their second day of life to find them baking under the lights in a grow area that was 98 degrees (ambient); improper Air conditioner setting that has since been rectified. Needless to say their growth was stunted for a few days, but they have recovered and are growing along happily; they are very hardy to have all survived that drama completely intact.

As you can see they are in a fairly crowded grow chamber, but they've got the best seat in the house.

I have a question for you guys. I had never used jiffy peat pellets to germinate before 3 months ago. I've done 3 different strains in them and I've had good germ rates(25/28), but have noticed that the initial growth rate of the seedlings seems slower than what I normally see with my own Sphagnum based seedling mix. I think it may have to do with the acidity of the peat and the lack of nutrients in the pellet which cause the seedling to slow down until it can establish sufficient root-mass in the surrounding soil...Any thoughts from any one on this???

I was really excited when I saw all 10 pop up. They were pretty tough to have all survived.

Thanks, Keep it green.

Nice one on the germination, its off to a great start, your starting mix sounds great, what was the mix?Your mix may allow roots to deveop and feed a lil quicker,a good thing.
All the best.

Hi igro. I start off with a commercial Sphagnum based seed starting mix and then amend it with a little humus, perlite(small particle), vermiculite, a little bit of composted chicken manure, and just a touch of lime. I got lazy this time around and just germed in the jiffy pellets...

I recon jiffy pellets are great when in a heated propagator, rooting times are good, vigours roots, without the heat,in my expierance they take longer and arent as vigourous.go figure..

Anyways goodluck with things, looking forward to updates.:yeahthats
stay safe!

Igro-I've had good results using the Jiffy pellets for cloning; and that's what my remaining supply will be used for. Stick around for further updates.:abduct:

Phillthy-Definitely fresh, strong seed-stock that's for sure.:joint:

Ido-Thanx, yeah forgetting the A/C settings is one of those :wallbash: moments. Good luck on your grows.

Here are some pics of the little one's. I took the opportunity while I was moving them around to put them all together and take some pics. They are growing very well and dealing with the oppressive heat just fine...:woohoo:

Here's the only mutant that I've found. I'm going to give it another week to snap out of it and start some productive growth, before I chop it.

I haven't gotten rid of her just yet. The biggest problem with it, is the slow rate of growth. It's just being dwarfed(and shaded) by all it's siblings. No worries, I'll give it a little more time to snap out of it.

Meanwhile the other 9 are doing just great... I'll try and put up some pictures tomorrow.

Peace.
