Is flushing bullshit?

Flushing? I use to. And, it was a big deal since i had 30-40 plants in 15 gallon pots. That's a lot of water and shop-vac-ing it out.

I'm now following a very experienced growers recommendation. Feed until the last three weeks of your cycle. From there, water/hygrozyme/sweetener and let the residual nutes in the SOIL be used. He has the finest tasting buds, so i'm following his lead.

Good luck,

this is what I do also, feed up till the last 3 weeks, then water with only molasses to soak up all the leftovers in the soil. By the time the last couple days of the plants life rolls around, the leaves are getting pretty yellow. I'm told my stuff tastes pretty decent.

sparks, crack, snapple, pops come from poorly leached pot and pops are usually spidermites......

Nitrogen in Living Things

Nitrogen is a component of amino acids and urea. Amino acids are the building blocks of all proteins. Proteins comprise not only structural components such as muscle, tissue and organs, but also enzymes and hormones essential for the functioning of all living things. Urea is a byproduct of protein digestion. We use the term "organic nitrogen" to describe a nitrogen compound that had its origin in living material. The nitrogen in protein and urea is organic nitrogen. Organic nitrogen can enter septic systems as bodily wastes, discarded food material, or as components of cleaning agents.

Hey Broccoli Head, As I totally concur w you on how "organic" N is derived, I am puzzled as to what my sig has to do w this conversation. Yes you want to leach all 3 forms of N. and all 16 primary elements and their chelates when flushing. will N pop and spark? sure! as will other elements and the heavy metals associated in soils & organic fertilizers/Teas. It is why it's so important to flush or leach everything from the plant gradually until all is metabolized. cutting down organic soil plants that are still green, is not safe, is not leached, and will definitely effect the overall quality.

i luv flushing, i means that all the work that feeding entails(lifting up a teaspoon n filling it with floranova) are over, an i can relax and just water when almost bone dry and finally get some rest from my having to lift a teaspoon up work,,shewwwwwwwwwww. flushing is crucial and a wise thing to do, it also teaches u just how your particular strain feeds n stores nutes and responds to excess/lack. usually u learn that u are over feeding, even in coco with a two week flush on a few girls last run the shit barely yellowed up, thats called over feeding.

So you're saying that even without nute burn you consider your plants over fed if you can't get them to yellow at the end of harvest?

People are throwing out terms in this thread and laying down stuff like it's the law, just makes me laugh.

It's hard to force some indicas to yellow at all...I had a Bubba Kush on plain water in DWC for over 21 days and those leafs stayed nice and green.

in dwc it would be a bitch, because you are recirculating what's leached back into the medium. flushing requires drain to waste. flushing from the top and pushing the ferts down n out is best. I run NFT, and I have to manually hand water a couple hundred cubes w a wand the last 2 weeks. but that can only be done when their is a medium capable of retaining moisture for 24 hours and a thick enough root zone to hold enough moisture as well. can't have roots dying out from lack of moisture, and at the same time you can't keep recirculating the leached ferts to properly flush. this is where top drip systems are optimal. I have gone 25 days w bubba. when plants use their reserves, they bulk up bigger, trich out more and obviously burn and taste better. once the plant is completely depleted, in the end it's all about the drying & cure.

???....DWC is as easy to flush as any other style...I don't run a recirculating system and my only substrate is hydroton and that's inert, the medium in DWC is the nutrient solution.

i like to force the plant to feed off of itself, I do this by cutting food

your plants should look like they have undergone seasonal change

the soil microbes stop activity at the end of the grow season in many locations so many plants are forced to feed of their own stores naturally

nothing wrong with the colors of fall or the effects on the smoke, plus why spend more money feeding your plants than you need to?

starving your plants will give auto prune some big ass fans and let in additional light and will not cost you yield in the end, in fact I think the "auto pruning" allows light and more uniform maturation of the lower buds

I far prefer to under feed and lose a fan than over feed and burn new growth

people are putting out imaginary laws in there head and laughing at what i dont know to much in this thread, might be a side effect from not enough flushing :gday:

Yes flushing is total bullshit, as is bathing, brushing your teeth, wearing a seatbelt, you must cease all these at once.

We agree that flushing doesn't really hurt anything...right? So why not then? If nothing else, it saves a couple of weeks worth of nutes...

I do it because I like the golden color the buds get from the yellowing leaves after a cure...
