Internodal Spacing

I have noticed that some growers get very short internodal spacing and amazing growth from just flo's in the seedling and clone stage. I up to this point have not been able to fugure out how they are doing it. My seedlings always seem to stretch and secondary side branches are always slow to get going. I have been growing for awhille but I don't know it all that's fo sure. I need insight people. Could it be lack of nutes? I veg under a 400 watt MH. They are started under flo's that are practically setting on top of them. It's not like they are not getting enough light.

Any Ideas, Critiques

maybe its the type of fluoros you use, Mo? Possibly not the correct spectrum? That's the only thing I can think of if your lights are close enough, and you have enough of them (?). I doubt it has anything to do with nutes, at least in the seedling stage. I don't use fluoros to veg myself, but I know they sell tubes with different spectrums so that's the only thing which comes to mind immediately.

They may need changing, they are suppose to be designed for propagation and such. They are quite old tho. I think they are more from the blue spectrum. Good point on the nutes tho in the seedling stage.

Flurs lose lumens more quickly than other lighting. Change the tubes every couple months if you use em over 18 per day, its a cheap way to ensure max lumens! Temperature range between day/nite can effect internodal stretch as well as humidity, a closer range is better, but don't forget are you growing the same strain? If you have one that has tendencies to stretch what then? I would like my Mothers to stretch some to create better clone sites so I limit HID and add indirect Sunlight.

#1 I use a fan to make my seedlings and clones gently dance. Not directly at them but off wall or something.

#2 this is pure speculation here maybe plants are like fish (small tank small fish big tank big fish) Just a thought.
