I have to say the camera, whether you destroyed it or not, is a mute point. Most cameras I've seen that snap flash pictures using motion detection, at least the ones you're describing out in areas as such, are either hardwired by cable or clicking wirelessly back to a hard drive somewhere. While it may be just a battery operated camera....even cheap versions of these are not cheap and begs the question why would anyone leave a camera setup in that area? Taking the camera drew heat automatically irregardless of what you do/did. A naturalist doing a project or farmer watching for predators or hunters looking for game...all would report it stolen to the police in most cases if they didn't (as was pointed out by someone earlier in this thread) go stomping around the bush themselves looking for an explanation...nowadays even most grandma's know what pot plants look like. If it wasn't them it was po-po and you can bet your ass they're out there looking...that aside, there is the off-chance that it is just a plain jane camera so...to remain on the safe side...I would wait a week or two , grab 5 or 6 friends and organize a fake treasure hunt (pretty hard to doubt 6 other people all carrying notepads and some with various "listed" rocks and leaves tucked in their backpacks) for your reason to be out there. If it looks clear and the plants are there...well... rip and run - you've got 7 backpacks and an alibi...

peace out

IMO, the way you grow is the person you have to be. certain risks come with growing inside and risks with growing outside. with both ways you have to be quiet and reserved, cautious and calculating and above all wise and willing.

i grow inside, to me/for me its just safer that way. if i have to do anything drastic its to my own and no one else has to get involved and thats the type of person as a grower i have to be.

IMO, if your growing outside, then the OP's actions were warranted and necessary since they were conducive to his situation and the risks he was willing to take by growing outdoors.

what i think is this, if you wanna grow outdoors, then be in the right area to do so, and what i mean is, your own back yard nice fence for prying eyes and the necessary discretion.

Well, I went back and checked around two am this morning...Everything is gone, ripped right out of the ground. Still dont know how this particular spot was found..Only thing I can think of is either a helicopter saw the grow or it was found through some random act by a someone hiking.

As far as the camera goes, I think I did that right thing under the circumstances. Those that are critical need to think about the situation. Im basically running from the cops at this point carrying a backpack with empty water bottles, and I get my picture taken with a game camera. Im not going to stand there and try to figure how to delete the pictures and take a chance on the landowner or someone else walking up, and I am certainly not going to take a chance and sneak it back and risk being seen....Plus, putting it back will raise even more questions. What if the landowner noticed it was missing than it mysteriously reappeared?

The way I look at it better the landowner out $100.00 to $200.00 camera than me getting busted.

I think the OP did everything right....Fuck that camera, I cant believe people are actually debating this. I highly doubt the landowner or whoever put it there will go nosing around trying to figure out why its missing, chances are he will write it off to kids or something.

camera is gone. plants are gone. spot is compromised. outdoor grows are about egress and regress. that means coming and going to the location w/o anyone noticing you or even seeing you. the fact that others go there also is to your advantage as anyone who frequents that area is just as suspect as you. the best thing is that you are still up and running for next year. coming and going thru the woods is the best way if possible. if you walk out in the open you will be seen. get your stuff for growing into the area during the winter as no one is thinking "the marijuana" in march. even though that particular spot is done it doesn't mean you can't find another spot in that general area. helicopters look for gardens. that means bare dirt or some other kind of garden profile. plan next years spot out for invisible access (like going thru the woods). i congratulate you. your instincts as far as i'm concerned were perfect. the most important thing is to be around next year. and you showed you got outdoor balls without 'em getting chopped off.

I think in this day and age, very few people will report theft of a value of only a few hundred dollars, particularly something left in the bush. Even for home burglaries with thousands in losses, cops rarely even try to investigate when there are no suspects (or often, even with a suspect). Cops only come for an insurance report and to possibly bust YOU for false reports/attempted insurance fraud.

bagend12: Props for going back and checking. Sorry to hear it's gone, but at least you know now and should never return to that site. I figured the plants were likely still there.

I agree with you on the camera. Yeah, somebody lost a few hundred in property/life sucks sometimes. But taking the cam was the right split second decision IMO, and I likely would have done the same.

Bagend,

No disrespect for protecting yourself. Right decision in taking care of the situation with the quickness.

If you feel crappy for trespassing on private land (if it was), planting your crop (which you did), and then destroying a piece of equipment that was lawfully installed with good intent (if it was), and you have the scratch...

(you've already shown you have the sack to return--respect for that)...

Then a non-traceable replacement camera (cash/out-of-town/OJSimpson-style-drop-off) with a non-traceable "Sorry, didn't mean to fuck with your life," note might be a way to tidy up loose ends, ease grower-landowner tensions and clean up your obligation to do no harm to others.

...don't forget the pepper and the new size 13 Wallmart shoes...

best answer so far. what was done had to be, so just do what you can and keep it moving.

he/she gets their camera back, you live to grow another day, LEO. . . .well honestly fuck leo, cause they are gonna justify their bullshit no matter what.

:jump::jump::jump:LEGALIZATION = NO MORE SMASHED CAMERA'S!!!!:jump::jump::jump:

Dude, You did the right thing...100% correct in your acts.....I can't believe people are actually giving you shit about this...lol...well, I guess I can....thats just how people are wired..I guess.....

But good job of securing your freedom....Suks about the cam, but when its your life or a FUCKING camera...LOL...please, choose your life (freedom) everytime....

I can understand how crazy that must have been...first you see a piggy while being surrounded by your crop, then after running, your picture gets taken....wow...sucks bro...but, you will get them next year...

Glad your safe....
