Wait a week or so and go get your buds man! Bring a bird watching book and binoculars!
I like this, you can do a bunch of long range scanning of the spot with your binoculars, if it looks OK, then go in and get your stuff.
Wear a big floppy boony hat and sunglasses in case of more cameras.

Unfortunately, the camera has become collateral damage in the unjust war against cannabis users. Not ideal for the owner of the game camera, but war is hell.
Why not just pull the memory stick instead of destroying the poor dudes camera? You just cost the guy a couple hundred bucks and probably ruined any further outings and fun he'll have on his own land. It wasn't necessary......
Now they probably will look around. And guess what? Another black mark for growers.....
Yeah I don't think we get a free pass to do just anything because our hobby happens to be illegal. The burden is on us to show that we are responsible citizens and not a danger, otherwise prohibition will continue to have it's backers, among them likely the dude who's camera got stolen.

I never said it was a free pass, or the most ideal outcome.
A person would be a fool, not to take every step necessary to insure their freedom.

I feel bad for the owner of the camera, he's lost a bill or two.

I'd feel much much worse for the grower caught trying to return the camera
and lost a YEAR or two.

It is an unfortunate situation, that the camera became collateral damage in the war on marijuana.

Why there was an LEO back there in the first place is a good question. I don't want to say too much, but lets just say the area is pretty much of a protected woodland and leave it at that. There is no other reason for LEO to be there other than to check up on suspicious activity.

He just wanted to smoke a doobie, he had to get out as he didn't want to hotbox the patrol car.

Ive run into game cameras before, if your the least bit familiar with technology it is easy to open them and delete all the pics on the spot.

While I dont think highly of stealing someone elses property, I cant say that I would not have done anything different. Running into po-po AND getting picked up on a game camera would be too much for me in one night.

Also, if our hobby were not illegal game cameras would not have to fall as collateral damage.

I think the only thing that was necessary was to remove the memory card. Although I would probably feel somewhat bad about it, it must be removed. I doubt that the camera itself has the ability to securely wipe the picture from memory, so I would just remove and destroy. The card probably cost no more than $20.

It is a shitty situation to find yourself in no doubt. There's no real right answer, only one which is less wrong than the others.

That camera HAD TO GO, it snapped a pic of him fleeing his site after LEO showed up.

If you are really losing sleep over some guy being out a camera, then buy another one and tack it to the tree you took it from.

I 100% believe that removing and destroying the whole camera was the right course of action given the circumstances

right, running from LEO through the woods in the dark carrying watering equipment, is a good time to stop and reason yourself through all of the possibilities and consequences then figure out how to open the camera up and remove the memory card (while hoping it didn't fill up and the cam switch over to internal memory).

I would check the pics, it could have pics of them setting it up and who knows what else

if they have some sort of tracking on it however I would get rid of it a.s.a.p.

was it just a hunting camera or did it have leo tags on it in some fashion?

Fuck that camera, I think it's like cheating anyways for hunters trying to kill a fucking poor deer! Really, you need a damn camera to do that?

You might have ensured your continued freedom or saved a deer. Either way it's a win.

It had to go.

I agree. +karma for saving a deer that was likely going to be killed for sport. Those deer will also appreciate taking a few licks of your mature bud before you pull it..

Wait a week or so and go get your buds man! Bring a bird watching book and binoculars! Go there peep the scene and leave for awhile to make sure nobody is there, then come back and get your herb! There are safe ways to do this if it's still there......

7 plants, less than a pound?i would go back for sure.cover your face and hands.go in at 3 am.there will be no one staking out your grow.if it is there then you know they didnt find it.no way they are going to waste resources by staking out a 7 plant grow with issues,no way.not in ontario anyways.they would just pull them.maybe...and i mean maybe leave a cam and come back for it 3 weeks later.i am wondering if the guy with the game cam saw you before and called the cops.just go in like buddy said....ninja style.if it takes you 20 minutes to go 50 yards,so be it.think like a deer.and if in a million years they were staking it out they would not be in the patch, they would be 50 yards away in their warm car.i just cant see it happening.

I second this. Go back ! Go at 2-3 AM. Have a cover story. Check for cars. If coast is clear, go for it quickly, but reasonably quietly. If you feel bold, grab a good one to take home and sample.

If you feel paranoid about driving in, take a bicycle or some other kind of vehicle that's easy to stash.

After my 3 consecutive days of helicopter invasions, I was a bit freaked about returning to the "scene of the crime", IE the plants in my back forest. All was good. They're still there. Some victory buds were harvested and "sampled"... :)
