I think Ive been compromised, 2 times over...

So tonight I was in my spot doing some watering, when I hear a car come down the dirt road less than 50 yards from where my plants are.
I was able to get a quick look and saw it was a LEO, and that he had stopped and gotten and out.

I was able to make a quiet exit in the other direction...I was able to get a last look at the guy walking up and down the road, but did not see him actually enter my grow area. Im not saying he didnt go in there, I just didnt see him.

I made my way out and back home taking a route I normally dont take, when all of a sudden Im illumnated by the flash of a game camera...SInce I am not interested in having my picture taken while carrying empty water bottles, I take it down the camera and bring it home...

Now Ive got two problems.

1) Do I forget about my grow or try and figure out if something happened. My gut tells me to forget about it.

2) What the hell do I do with this camera? It has a memory card, and I can delete the pictures of me on there, but do I put it back? Could this thing also have an internal harddive that may contain my photo?

Wow, interesting, good job on snagging the camera.
I'd take it apart asap, search for a card, and smash the whole thing to bits, and dump it in the nearest lake.

I don't know what to say about the plants, but if there's cameras out there, and cops patrolling within 50 yards of your grow, it sounds like they may already know about them.

Get rid of that camera asap, my paranoid mind would be worried it had gps in it and they were already on the way to my house.
It probably doesn't, but no sense hanging onto something incriminating like that, smash and dump, preferably in water

the camera doesnt have GPS....and i know it was put there by a property owner to monitor game, and not leo...I hate taking someone elses stuff also...but hell..trying to put it back after deleting the pictures is just taking one more risk...

Seems if the LEO knew about the grow he would have been on you. Definately you should play it safe. He could have been there for another reason though. I would make sure nothing ties me to the grow, such as fingerprints. If it is a small grow they usually will just pull the plants and move on to bigger fish, but if it is large they might go out of their way to catch someone

The LEO could've stopped for a number of reasons... hard to tell... I'd just keep an eye out... be smart about when you visit/plan to visit. It's getting close to chop so... visits should be limited. Stay safe.

I would go check. They cant do anything unless you have it on you. Just bring the dog or a camera binoculars if stopped your just taking pics looking at deer walking the dog. If it's gone they got it and dont go back there. once they fond the plot they dont wait they pull it asap.

Stealing things gives us a bad name, I would advise against it unless you feel that your security would be put in too much risk by replacing it. You could always mail it back with a strange note like "hey I'm Cletus and I thought this was my cam and I got it back and realized it wasn't so here". Not saying I would do that, just pointing out that there are options. Making right by returning a camera is not something that you should put yourself in too much risk for though. I don't know the area or anything so I can't tell you what you should do.

About deleting your picture: data recovery of "deleted" files is as possible on flash media as it is on traditional hard drives. Either delete it securely or destroy the card. No reason to destroy the camera though.

But yeah your spot is probably compromised even if your crop isn't pulled. You can't grow somewhere where LEO is randomly poking around.

there are tons of game cameras out now that it is deer season. however, one that close to your grow means people have been that close to your grow and may have reported what they saw. better safe than sorry...

Certainly real, its not a troll..The camera is gone, at the bottom of a lake now. I had thought about going back and replacing it after I deleted the files, but I felt it was just too risky to go return it.

The thing with the LEO driving back there and stopping is this. The "road" is not really a road, its basically a walking path My grow is located in thick brush in a pretty remote area where autos are not allowed. So there was really no reason for any LEO to be back there at all.

Sounds like the cop could smell it.You said it was almost done flowering and the cop was walking up and down the path,trying to pinpoint where the smell was coming from.You were probably lucky not to have gotten caught then.I wouldnt go back.Its a trap.
