looking at the portions of society primarily represented ( and some commonality with certain other segments at odds with math and common sense), i have come to begin to believe the following. they are frightened as hell by the idea that society is evolving, and that their preferred interpretations of societal norms no longer hold true as a majority. this has become their "Custer's Last Stand" "for muh freedom!", and they are willing to let other innocent people die to stave off the inevitable for as long as possible. they see this bloodletting as "watering the tree of liberty". we are at the Rubicon...
