Going around the neighborhood early on the 5th of july and picking up all the un-popped fireworks. To build the biggest damn bombs we could. Blew some sht up big time at the old sand pit. Never had the police show up to see what we were doing.

Now I have a gunpowder mortar(legal in most states) It's a great noise maker...very LOUD but safe(so long you don't stand over it) When I set it off,the police will show up in minutes.

You could get the most fabulous pine tree bud a person have ever seen. Smelled and tasted like a pine tree. Haven't seen anything like it in modern times. A true legend. Oh and coke in 16oz. 8 packs, glass of course.

I blew plenty of shit up too back in the day too. It's a wonder I still have all my fingers (or hands for that matter). Pete King (no relation to the sports guy) made a pipe bomb and showed it around. He blew it off after a high-school sporting event. It was really loud. I was 5 miles away and knew what it was. The cops got his ass somehow. Pete was an avid skier too. He drowned in an avalanche after setting dynamite on a mountain top after being helicoptered up in CO, so skiers would have snow at the lower elevations. FUCK!

I also had another daredevil friend die when he ran into a tree in a car. He was only 21. God his wake and funeral were sad. I couldn't force myself to go to the wake. That might have been a good thing because he had been working as a jewelers assistant, and the jeweler chose then to give Gary's mother the ring Gary had been making for her as a Christmas present. They would have had to carry me out. I cried all the way through the funeral too. 30 years later and it seems like yesterday.

Sorry to get maudlin. Maybe this is why I have lived so long, to tell about that kind of stuff. Only 57 and fuckin' racked up too. DON'T DO THAT SHIT KIDS.

,...I was a teenager in 1977, at the record shop, only money for one single (45rpm) and I had to decide for the new Bay City Rollers single or this strange band from england, were I read about, the Sex Pistols. I told the guy from the recordshop that I want to hear the Sex Pistols and it blew me away!! I never heard something like this before and bought "god save the queen".

....I was walking around the whole day with wet feet in rubberboots and get no cold.

....rolling cigarettes on a bycicle, on the way to school in winter.

...we had no Mc Donalds in my hometown

...hearing "Bat out of hell" and "Frampton comes alive" or cheaptrick "Live at Budokan" while smoching in the basement on matrasses,

1977

I was living on Maui, working at a french resturant in Whalers market, Lahaina, and an Italian resturant downstairs. The Eagles had just released their Hotel California album which mention Lahaina and a church down the street from me. Fleetwood Mac had released their album as well. I think it was rummors. Mick Fleetwood had a home on maui, and came to my resturant, David Bowie and Elton john were around as well. Elton was playing piano at the Blue Max down the street, climbed up on the piano, and the ceiling fan almost took his head off. David Bowie had a large bowl of cocaine, and set it on a table at the party and told people to help themselves

I t was 1963, fifteen years of cool,(just a little crazy than my friends)The lady next door had grand kids come from New Orleans every few months. City guys who were in the know brought me weed by the match box full. $5.00 not a small sum when I got $5 for mowing a yard and all the edging. Prince Albert rolling papers free when you bought PA in the can.

We used to prank call liquor stores. The old rotory phones. Ask if they had prince Albert in a can. Then warn them that they better let him out. We also dialed RO7800 or popcorn to find out what the correct time was.

I remember when the announcement went over the school speakers that JFK was shot dead. We were scared. I remember the air raid sirens duck and cover. We were safe from nuclear attack by russia beneath out school desks.

We saved money and never borrowed. We were afraid of people who used marijuanna. The police were our friends. The president was a good leader who loved America, MORE THEN MONEY. I wish I could return to that time. We were much safer then. I need to find an old school desk, so I will be safe when the real shit hits the fan. ?

I was just starting out 3rd grade Nov.'63 when Kennedy was shot. The school district, at no small expense, and really futuristic for back then, had set up closed circuit TVs, B+W of course, in all the classrooms. The teacher switched it on and walked out of the room, probably didn't want the kids to see her cry. One kid started chanting, "Kennedy's dead in the head, Kennedy's dead in the head, Kennedy's dead in the head". Kinda surreal.

I remember a kinder gentler, nation!
In comparison to, today..people were much more trustworthy.

We needed wires in the walls, to speak on a phone.
The sky was full of stars. Instead of junk.
The Colorado River, took more than 2 seconds to cross.
You had a good chance, of out running a cop!
People could be trusted! Why, we knew each other then. We knew our grocer, our banker, gas man, mechanic Heck, I even remember the Milk Man and the Helms Bakery Truck! We knew the name of our mail person and everyone we did business with.

Would people steal from someone on a personal note.

I think, we had a much better world without cameras to give you tickets and spy on your every move. Heck, I was in a police station and they even had a spy camera (appeared like a smoke detector) in the bathroom.
I remember, a day, we could expect privacy and a bit of honesty! :listen2:
And when you didn't have to, Please press 2 if you would like to hear this message in English!

Oh yeah, and customer service, mean't, just that! jpt

Bravo sir!

Just ran across this in a saved file & thought I'd share it. Hopefully it's not a dupe on this thread.
Cheers:biggrin:

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh a thread after my own heart.....back when boy's turned into men instead of sissy's.
A time when if a dude wore eyeliner and lipstick and skinny jeans he could count on getting his ass beat on general principle...........
A time where we RESPECTED our elders
A time when add was still called lazy
A time when a tattoo, riding a motorcycle, __________ (fill in the blank) actually meant something.
A time when we took responsibilites for our own actions.
A time when being a musician ment you actually played a instrument.....
A time when a dropout with a turntable was a drop out with a turntable not a DJ
A time when integrity ment something
A time when a " lady " ment more than just a female.
A time when made in the usa ment quality
A time when we learned how to amuse our self with some mud and a stick
A time when we believed in pulling our own weight.
A time when you had to actually do something to become famous.
A time when a date was dinner and movie instead of fuck book and a condom
A time when disiplin was disiplin not child abuse.
A time when we knew that hugging it out was not the way to deal with our enimies.........
A time when if you didnt learn you didnt pass.
A time when "mediocrity is not a option" was more than just words It was a way of life.
A time when we treated the disease not just the symptom..........
A time when you could and would be proud to say born in the usa

I can still see it to this day. In San Francisco my high school didn't have a pa system so the office sent runners around to each classroom & a girl burst into the room, yelled it out & took off.
How far downhill we have come since then & what my generation has done to this country, unconscionable, how sad.

I also time and again think of how ;things were;

Please add to the list, Bruce, Imported Hash was available... lol.. I think you covered the "Women used to smile and were often friendly" one too..

Spent a good amount of time in the Midwest, where I was raised, after decades in CA - and infrequent visits over the years. It was a lot more like the honest, but well-meaning, fight with your hands if you must World we all grew up with than the Wild and Wooly Rural Wild West I have adopted..

You know, when we could get on our bikes and ride for miles, Parents were OK with that, and it always went OK.

There are places where Friendship still TRULY means something as well as One's word. Attraction between two available partners often ended up with a Happy Ending.. haha.. Not perfect, mind you, by any means, and there are shysters all about, but generally, a Man;s Word and handshake still means something.

I found that many promises WERE fulfilled when One hooked up with solid Peeps. It was refreshing. If not for the weather, I'd never leave. Living indoors most of the year, with artificial air offends my Body.

Northern Europe seems similar Ethically. People can be very dependable.

I love CA, but must admit. Compared to the Peeps I was with Back East, they are sometimes lacking in integrity and heart. Trying to surround myself with the type of people outlined above.

Other than a few Bright Souls, at best, many are simply selfish. Tough economies with High Tickets will do that to ya.
There is a certain Pressure...

Hi stasis,
Everything you said rings true.
Well I'll tell ya. I was born in SF CA & raised to be a progressive
liberal like my parents before me.
I'm moving to Texas next year only because of what California has become.
Wish I could afford to renounce my citizenship & move to Coober Pedy, Aus. & open an opal mine:biggrin:
Cheers

Great Thread guys, keep it coming.
I remember buying two pints of beer from a pound & having enough left for fish & chips on the way home! Pounds, shillings & pence! I got half a crown pocket money. Saturday morning pictures was 6p.
I remember when CurlyWurly's were massive & took so long to chew.
I was 15 when I first smoked & it was Pakki Black - 1972.
Where the fuck did all that time go?
Stay safe people!

I remember when fish & chips used to be good tasting with real North Atlantic cod & real chips. Not the slop they serve nowadays.
Back in the 60's we used to go to the foreign movie house on Cedar Alley off Van Ness Ave. in San Francisco & after some really whacked foreign films & a joint or two we'd go down the alley for real F&C wrapped in newspaper.
God how I miss those eats:biggrin:
