Quit the same way 19 years ago.

When they started to refer to cigarettes as a nicotine delivery
system, I was done.

Fuck tobacco, I said.

Just say no every time you want one. NO!

I've tried to quit many times over the years...planned my giving up for weeks...then started..patches ...nicotine gum...pills from the doctor...cold turkey etc(these methods over and over again)...Went thru the course of pills again earlier this year and thought this time I was going to make it...but had an extremely stressful start to the year(that's all behind me now) and it didn't work out

last month on the 20th...I was sitting here...thinking "I need to have an extra $90'ish dollars a fortnight in my pocket"...and the only way I could see i could get that ...was quitting smoking which cost me ....$90'ish dollars a fortnight

And thought..."hmmm i know i can get patches from my doc for free"...so made an appotment for the following monday...got the patches...

Well since last wednesday...I haven't had a smoke!...and i feel more confident than ever about not smoking than i ever have(with a spur of the moment decision)....sure now i have to ween myself off the patches....but i don't have this screaming feeling in my head "FARRRRRK! ......I WANT A SMOKE!"

I think i feel better(feel healthier) in the last week....and was able to use the money saved to get a grow project started i couldn't without doing this!!!!!! .HH. =]-~

The first two weeks are the hardest because cravings come frequently. Just take on each craving as a battle. After two weeks the cravings become far and few between, exercise also helps alot and taking a very powerful multivitamin to replenish what smoking has depleted from your body, it will give you an edge and increase your success.

Good Luck

There are a lot of good ideas written on this thread :ying:

I quit Cold Turkey on July 27, 1978 :woohoo:

I had tried many times and had too many excuses.

Had to smoke when I went drinking, etc.

If you can hang in there you will beat it cold turkey.

Like the man said, what will I do with my hands? Nothing

You'll find something to do with your hands, roll more joints

Nice! I'm trying to quit on New Years!

You haven't even started yet and your already "trying" to quit! Just do it, you will feel better, taste more, smell less and enjoy everything that much more. You can do it!

The hardest thing for me was driving. I prefered sunflower seeds to keep my mouth busy when I wanted a smoke.

Good luck ST, make the quit stick!
(think of all the seeds to buy with the extra cash!)

wtg supe!!!

buy a bag of those tart lemon hard candies, I know of 2 people who quit by using them as a pacifier, they last as long as a cig and both quitters claimed it left them w/no yearnings like an after meal smoke.......

start a hobby, maybe fly tying :)

saltwater flies are easier to make & fetch some good $$$, idk, just keep yourself busier than usual.

very best of luck

EDIT:
and stay away from trigger situations. if lighting one up (along with other folk) as you sit around the campfire was very satisfying then avoid hanging there for awhile.

lean on cannabis for your yearning to smoke, nothing wrong w/gods good green :)

I tried to quit many times and failed. The longest I've gone is about 6 months. It's tough for me because I have too much stress in my life and no way to deal with it yet. I chain smoke 2 packs of cigs a day to relieve my stress. I'll be less stressed after new years I think so that's why I'm waiting.

Good for you! I woke up on July 22, 1996 and decided I don't smoke any more (cigs) and haven't since. you will remember your day just like so many others of us. Not long before that, a mentor of mine and family friend died from a heart attack and so many of our friends and workmates would say' "well he was a smoker" like he had it coming. Bullshit to that, he was my friend, and didn't have it coming. You will look back and wonder why you did it for so long. Enjoy your new freedom from addiction. Don't let anything cause you to stray. You don't smoke, period.

Best of luck to you trout. I was going to say something similar to stoner said - stay away from situations that you habitually smoke in/during.

I made it a year then went drinking with some smoker buddies. 2 puffs and I was at the store the next morning. For me, that is the hardest part, just not buying them.

Getting past the 4th day is hard. Do that and youll be well on your way. You will do it!

Good for you bro. I quit in 1987. I had one or two, here or there, but I haven't touched one in years. I can't stand the smell anymore. If you can make it a month you got it licked. Roll a buncha joints and smoke 'em like cigs. It helps.

Good luck and stay strong.

Congrats on attempting to quit.

I smoked for over 30 years also. It will be 2 years around the end of January. Cold turkey seems to be the only way to quit. I want a cig now. The cravings have not stopped.

Good luck ,Trout and good for you.
I quit a few years ago.
One thing I did was fill a small mason jar full of used butts. Whenever I had a craving for one I would open that jar and take a whiff. NASTY! That worked for me.

You mentioned smoking and hunting. I never smoked while hunting but the smell clings to everything. You will notice your success rate soar if you are avid enough and take other factors into consideration.
Many people will say that they have never had a deer scare due to their smoking before/while hunting. My reply is that is they never saw the deer they scared away.

congrats man...I quit two years ago right before Christmas because I figured if I could do it before the holidays I would be good to go. I did have a couple slipups between then and now but I can honestly say that even when I'm shitfaced drunk I still don't have any desire to smoke a real cigarette and would much rather have my cheap e-cig. If you don't have one I seriously recommend you check it out -- I spent like 30 bucks on a full kit for mine with two batteries, two tanks, a charger, and a case and the liquid is like 5 bucks for a bottle, which will last you for months. It's what has kept me smoke-free till now in a pretty stressful job! keep it up bro

sorry to hear you're almost out, if you were in the blue ridge area I would gladly smoke you out ;)
