HumboldtLocals Outdoor 2010

Hey fellow farmers. Hope everyone is enjoying the heat. Our girls certainly are.
A very dear friend asked me to show some pics from his farm. His place is called FireRidge Farms and he grows for a very large collective as well. He follows a strict Organic regiment like me and is known in our neighborhood for producing top notch meds. He grows a mix of well known clone strains and some of his own seed creations as well. We have done some joint breeding projects over the years and he has always stepped up his game year after year.
Without further ado I give you FireRidge Farms.:ying:

These pics are just a small taste of what his farm has to offer.
Here are a couple beds of Blackberry.

Here is a shot of his light dep with a couple weeks to go.

The guy does it up right and I am proud to call him a friend and comrade. He is the kind of grower that gives Humboldt it's good name. He is a real asset to our community and gives our favorite plant the honor and respect she deserves.
Here is one of our Burmese Kush from the farm.

Been busy? Looks like you buried Ganja D up to his neck in a smartpot. Or is the plant eating him? Anyhow, nice of you to let him have his hat on such a sunny day.

That Burmese looks excellent.

Why not trellis lower on the plant?

Having any problems with soil pathogens? I am getting reports from all over the place of lost branches and lost plants.

Ganja D has come in very handy. He He. The guy is full of beneficial microorganisms.
We will be adding another piece of lower trellis on each side. Some of these beasts will be needing it sooner than others.
We have lost a couple of the very smallest lower branches on a few but nothing out of the ordinary.

Beautiful farm, this Fireridge place, very zen! Nice to see their handiwork in this forum and we hope to see more of it.

They run a very tight ship and don't mess around. All of the plants you see will fill that garden in perfectly when done.

Not my hat. I only wear hats with a B,a weed leaf,or plain pin stripes.
FireRidge Farms is looking great. The same farmer is currently growing the Dutch Grown strains featured in my sig,and recently gave us back the males from the Killer Queen Redux and Witches Weed to play around with.

that means its in your soil, no? I had a single branch like that and then nothing till two weeks later when the entire plant went down.

taking any countermeasures?

Just good old fashioned prayer. :) Like I said, nothing out of the ordinary. I saw your pics of the dep and it looked pretty bad. Nothing I am seeing in my gardens has me concerned.

Ganja D buys these pin stripe hats in bulk. I must have seen a half dozen of them at his house today.:) I think he buys them by the pallet.

Killer Queen Redux pollen sounds like fun.

Just keeping up with water, spraying, feeding, and a little leafing clean up should keep the plants healthy enough to fight off any issues themselves. That and lots of love.

Like you said Maad, soil born pathogens. Most likely from the later batch of soil you had to use for the dep. I know we had this conversation at GKG a couple months back about getting soil later in the spring when the batches are fresh/rushed/poorly mixed/composted. I think a big problem with a lot of these soils is the wood chips in them. I spoke with an organic soil guru recently that I have a lot of respect for and she was telling me that you don't want wood in your soil mix. It attracts lots of bad things to your soil and creates the habitat they crave. The new garden we put in has roots and black gold. Other than that I have a lot of faith in the other soils that we mixed up.

Your friends farm looks very tidy indeed. Very professional. I can see why you love your community and peers so much. You must feel humbled and blessed every day. Thanks for the update guys:tiphat: Now if we could just get Rootwise to update his thread my outdoor voyeristic craving will be satisfied, for now. MB

I'm not so sure about it being the soil batches. The worst case of this that I have seen was up near you guys. Four dead GIANT Blue Dreams and at least 4 more that have had single dead branches that were barely noticeable until looked for. All the soil there was a brown rice hull and greenwaste compost plus perlite. Even here, none of the problematic full season plants are in that later batch of soil.

Another place battling this crap right now is in a homemade soil mix being used for the third year of re-amending... I just feel like its a lot more widespread than just attributable to bag soil or soil with wood chips... There is no such correlation between the places experiencing the problem.

I spoke with my homegirl who is an heirloom tomato guru, formerly gardening in southern OR where these pathogens are even more of an issue. Her opinion runs along with Tom Hill's. That these pathogens are way worse in years like this with colder spring temps and rain and high humidity later into the season. And years with early summers they are negligible or absent entirely in the problem-set for the year. And she was growing for many years in the same place in biodynamic organic fields that have been in place for years. For the record, she has never heard of MycoStop.

I am investing heavily in it. LOL. Dead plants are fucking spooky.

I wasn't serious but sometimes I wonder. I live in one of the other west coast hot spots for outdoor herb or just herb in general, British Columbia. At least a dozen or so growers who have been farming here since the 70's and 80's have told me that they had never seen powdery mildew and rarely had fungal/bacterial problems causing massive plant death before 9/11.

It's probably bullshit but I wouldn't put it past the govt to get frustrated putting so much effort into finding outdoor gardens and instead use the money to spray some marijuana AIDS virus.

They also were not NEARLY as paranoid before 9-11. I think we're jacking this thread in a totally pointless direction.

I am not trying to start a discussion just pondering... they are not paranoid just irie old hippies who noticed some things.

Anyway HL do you have any of the Vancouver Island purple going this year? Looked through the thread but couldn't find any this year.
