the cup voting is a joke, but its more about americans, dutch, japanese and spanish people to smoke some good weed. come on, smokers can't seriously expect to have a flawless cannabis cup, by the time you smoke two joints you can't judge anything anymore however, the cup is always a lot of fun. I have no problems with the HTCC, so what if its commercial atleast they can do it and most people don't even vote anyways, i mean i went there to smoke, not to vote, i can't take this stuff very serious!
i agree, it's not to be taken seriously. just another good moment to meet people in amsterdam. like you said really judging more then 1 strain every day is not reasonably possible. to really judge a strain you even need to smoke it for 2 days, lol. this will give you a much more complete judging opportunity. but alas, that kind of cup would be an organizational nightmare.

BUT ......... I disagree. It is possible to judge more than a few a day, it just depends on what you are judging for. Really it is a comparing fest.
how do the samples compare to each other, how do they compare to what you normally call top quality
taste and the quality of the burn, smoothness of the intake, can easily be judged/ compared for many joints.
and really good pot will always standout. at least that's my experience having been a judge on 3 continents numerous times.

seems to me like we've had this discussion before. 
i can see what you are saying and will agree, a lot can be judged with the eye and the taste and smell it gives off, then there is the way it burns, the color of the ash. you can also judge weather it has the strength to cut through what you have already smoked etc.
so you can judge certain aspects that's true and that's what's done at the meetings, which is great fun and gives you a real good idea of what strains have potential in our gardens.
BUT what you can not judge is how good, super or satisfying that particular strain will be when smoked on it's own.
for example: my Power-Plant, if you are in the middle of a session and you light up a PP joint, it will knock your sox off, it cuts right through all the other highs in your head and says i'm here to your brain. but just try smoking that fucker only, for a day and you will notice that on it's own it is not strong at all, in fact i find it unsatisfying, doesn't get me stoned properly on it's own.
so in my opinion to really know every thing about a strain you need to smoke it for a day or two.
