bring it... I can't wait to see what you have to share.
bring it... I can't wait to see what you have to share.
really want to hear how your set up and techniques have evolved fromThe funny thing now....so much of what I posted in the earlier days of this thread doesnt even apply to me now. I have new stuff to share though...
Good shit. The Vert Revolution WILL be televised!
It depends on the strain.
With the Hash Plant they would lean so bad otherwise that it was a frigging nightmare.
With Purple kush they don't really lean but they shade themselves so bad with the monster fan leaves that the back of the plant goes yellow. I just went through this. I was 4 days late in my weekly turn and I ended up with damaged vegetation once the light hit the almost yellow brush. Pruning leaves helps.
In the past I've had similar problems including weak fluffy sides that hurt my bag appeal for market.
Trust me, I know. Before anyone tells me that I'm putting too many plants in my room, I know all about the balance between too many and not enough. To get your weight when you go less numbers you have to grow them bigger. That adds time...which takes away profit.
A higher number of smaller plants takes away the extra veg and there you have it...more money at the end of the year.
Really, whats the problem anyways? Half hour per room once a week. Small investment for better looking herb.
This is not someone else's stadium, this is Northern Farmer's stadium. Other guys have their designs and I see them developing in this thread. What needs to be done in mine may not need to be done in some other variation. Like I've said somewhere in this thread....if you are going to do *this* set up, forget what you have learned with other systems. I've watched people with old habits fail. Not plucking leaf, not turning, watering too little or too much, too far from the bulbs, bulbs to few, not moving out enough or bringing in enough air, growing the plants too big or too small. You can all trial and error your way but some of my advice can eliminate some of the tough lessons.
Of course I shall benefit from some of the ideas you all are sharing with me. It goes both ways.
I simply cannot thank you enough for your ongoing helpful input and detailed responses NFR... your attention to detail hasn't been overlooked, and the contribution you've made to icmag and countless people's lives is beyond measure. I think post #507 sums it up...
Compliments aside, here's my small contribution to your work; hopefully it helps others as much as you've helped me.... cheers, boss. LBPULLERS
Post #
42 - Start here first for setup of shelves, layout: SHELVES NEED TO HOLD TOP-HEAVY PLANTS in place. Add 6" walls to each shelf is a good idea or tilting and slightly overlapping the shelves so shelf above holds top of pot below (posts #289, 296)
25 - 6.5'x10'x6.5 statistics on performance, light cooling ideas, layout desc
29 - LOTS o LEAF REMOVAL, nutes used in other grows, watering regimen
32 - MH lighting ONLY in beginning; cooler temps? Later NFR switched to Eye hortilux 1000w hps
608 - food/water/food/water/food/water never exceeds 900pm per feeding
35- thoughts on evolution and efficiency uses 1g bags with promix -or- allmix, GH and other nutes
37 - rotate plants 180deg weekly to minimize leaning
38 - "Once you've seen vertical lighting setup up properly you will never use a hood again, I assure you.." My old 100 box comes to mind...
41 - 55 plants per light?
55 - training and pruning are what set the pro's apart from the novices
56 - 1g promix, no run off. lights start at middle shelf, raise with stretch
61 - ph 6.4 b/c of peat in promix... removes large fan leaves from kush, thinning
76 - 200 plants = 25g h20 every other day
78 - sometimes uses co2, depends on location and season
84 - top shelf is 22" from ceiling, all others 10" down from shelf above, sitting on 8" boards
92 - peters 10-30-20 indoor & 20-20-20 for outdoor... wow! used that back in college. full circle?
112 - Ventilation details (1000 cfm exhaust min) , Peters fert mixing rate, elect consumption,
116 - odor control is not an issue for him
123 - expanding the room to accommodate more plants or vent loses yield. KEEP ROOM NARROW (6.5'), also discusses veg time correlation to yield and annual return
135 - Room width discussed, shelf spacing, always rotate plants weekly, thoughts on pros and cons of this setup, effects of temps (90 outside is trouble for him)
139 - AC in second room passively drawn in while heat is vented out second room, cool is drawn into grown from second area, heat exhausted
153 - History of design and relay idea origin
160- water running out of bottom of the bags would indicate overwatering for his regimen. Enough for two days is all that is applied, and only to those who need it most.
191 - Discusses PK, easy to use in his design b/c of no stretch
206 - efficiency of system comes from overlapping light.
209 - hanging PVC from ceiling allows under access, auto watering. Design discussion
240 - Dirt outperforms hydro consistently in this method. Higher plant density due to slower growth: 200 plants per 425 cu ft is alot!
246 - Shelf spacing: 22" from ceiling, 6" run, 10" rise thereafter. Floor irrelevant?
252 - shorter plants on top shelves, stretchers on lower shelves
273 - PK veg for 12-14 days from root, nets 6" plants into flower
286 - Plants under light can be very close, as heat rises from bulb. Excellent light distance discussion
306 - **must read** Overview, reinforces why his system works
308 - Shelf material idea; metal "track" for steel headers/footers?
309 - Aluminum roofing for shelves? 1'x10' = $25
339 - reinforces light overlapping is key by showing that a guy with a 4k setp that's just a foot smaller (9' instead of 10' long), holds nearly 40 fewer plants, and still yields almost 2lbs per light. Also, expansion area to accomodate filter and fan; gets the out of working aisle
349 - PK flowered at 6" finished at 18" SHORTEST ON TOP SHELF, 180 deg turn weekly
400 - The biggest mistake is flowering tall plants... 'its a fine line between too small and too tall'
471 - LIGHT MOVER discussed, USE PIPE TO HOLD BULBS VERTICAL
472 - Well executed knockoff room. Super clean 12' long 5kw digital ballasts
473 - BOTTOM SHELVES NEED LONG TRAVEL to allow for undercutting above shelves, which allows taller plants (possibly mixing strains in stadium)
483 - NFT tubes discussed. Tubes hung on chains from ceiling allow access, net pot can't be turned w/o damaging roots tho...http://www.stonerforums.com/lounge/growfaq/1449.html
490 - Plant count reduction discussed by author of #472 BWD
491 - suggests recycled 2l bottles as pots
493 - return of NFR, BUD PORN: photo #2 shows relocated exhaust/filter, switched to FOUR SHELVES, 2g bags, removed poly wrap walls. Still running PK after two years
498 - Long term update from another grower with details about coco with drippers
502 - see 493
507 - Another grower chimes in about his exp with stadium. Best props I've ever read... NFT should be proud.
509 - Building drain shelves with pond liner and 3/4 plywood
530 - Build your own relay setup! Excellent tutorial...
http://www.hydroponics.net/learn/grow-light-controller.asp
546 - NFR says he is going back to larger, longer vegged plants on 3 shelves
547 - Tops his PK for 2-3 tops, increases yield
549 - If it's not a bushy plant and you can keep up with clone supply and TRIMMING (uh-oh), go with one gal 5 shelves. If it is a big branchier plant, then go bigger pot and less shelves
560 - Light spacing is 20" from ends and 22" to next bulb center
563 - lights are usually level with the third shelf (middle of room vertically)
565/570 - moved fan above room, ditched poly walls, squeezes a bit more in where fan was
591 - 600w = 5' wide room. 3 shelf is a long veg time...he's gone to 6 shelves, rw slabs to simplify and reduce veg time
*try building your shelves out of plastic gutter or composite deck planks. No mold issues
Wow Wendy...this is a lot of work and just what this big thread needed. Good work and thank you!
It was getting very difficult to keep track. From the time I started this thread to now there has been quite a bit of rapid evolution(or rehashing of old ideas). This has been mainly brought on by the strain specific market here in BC.
Everything the 5 shelf one gal stadium was about was a brief veg with an aggressive strain. Hash plant was a marriage made perfect...then the fucking Purple Kush showed up like the evil red headed step child....
Rooms are now a little wider(plants are bigger)...4 shelves and 2 gals(spaced out a little bit). No poly(pk rots/hum red) and a lengthy 4 week veg(PK vegs so slow).
This sucks but it's the only way to get big marketable buds and get back into the neighborhood of 2lbs per bulb. Without a veg staging area taking that lengthy grow period away...it's a crop a year lost to us.
For those out there who are not in my situation with being handcuffed to a strain...I envy you. The funny thing now....so much of what I posted in the earlier days of this thread doesnt even apply to me now. I have new stuff to share though...
