I'm going to run 1 room MH and 1 room HPS this time round as soon as I trigger to flower. On this set up all my ballasts are HPS even tho I'm using MH bulbs. Haha, I'm sure this will spring questions too.

How did run HPS of MH ballasts? I went through about 10 pages after this post and not one person asked about it.

I never really payed attention to the date this thread was started... damn!

Have you seen any advantage to running HPS rather than MH?

I never said how because I didnt. I would run MH through a HPS. I probably didnt answer that question because it was obvious.:bump:

I see a differnce with HPS. It's no secret that they flower better. I never used MH because I thought it was better. Back then equipment was really expensive and if you were setting something big up, set up could be a challenge. We did so well I just continued buying cheap MH bulbs and changing them every crop or two up to just a couple of years ago. I did enough side by side back at the beginning that I couldnt justify $350 for a HPS kit with Bulb when the difference wasnt great. Think of the cost of 20? We found our buds stayed a lighter green color as well and that at one time meant the difference in ok money and great money.

Anyways, I believe I've said all this somewhere in this thread.:tiphat:

Ya, ok... so I sounded like an ass asking that, but when I read it I was like, "he know some secret I don't..."

You have indeed. I was curious about your take on results of HPS vs MH, and whether the added cost of HPS is worth it.

Sorry if I ask to many questions that have already been answered. I'm severely ADHD and dyslexic as fuck; I lose track real easy. I shit you not, I've been through this entire thread at least 4 times: first to last page.

I was origianlly going to use HPS, but I found a really good deal on some 1000w MH industrial lights w/bulb ($80 ea).

I've sort of modified my plan. Instead of running one 5x6.5x6.5 room; I'm going to run two of them on a small flip.

Appreciate the confab man.

This is the forum where everyones attention can be short. No problem man.:)

I definately think if people are on a budget they would be happy with the results running MH. Free or great deals should not be passed because they are MH. That room with the Hash Plant chunks everywhere at the beginning of this thread was done with MH...$40 bulbs too. That was a pretty impressive crop iirc. I remember dozens of rooms that were huge under MH.

Ya, I couldn't pass up the deal on the MHs. It cut my cost for lighting by 75%. I can always slowly introduce some HPS later.

So, if you took the plastic down, and you didn't replace it with anything; what's the deal: is the garden open now?

I saw where you said you having problems with PM; what is PM? Night temps, maybe?

IMO, (even thought I have no exp) I would say mixing spectrums would be a good idea; since different specs elicit different effects. Personal preference I suppose.

pm is powdery mildew. high night rh in a sealed room gives troubles.

heres a couple stadium pics since we havent had any for a while this room in on day 18. the top left in the first pic are from seed, so are a couple weeks behind the rest. :

Yeaah, the garden is open. The framing and shelves are the same but to improve my air I exposed it all and hung my two cans up high above the framework. I had to swap starins and do that to fight a PM problem.

Mr. stinky, nice looking man...:artist:

Thanks transplant

just spent the last 2 hrs readingthis thread and i am really glad i did ihave 3 100 watt mh ballast to work with and 50 green crack clones also a new 8 in vortex fan im going to use 2,5 gallon buckets maybe coco or maybe a rdwc should i make the stadium open and put some osscilating fans running thru the canopy? or mylar right up on the sides this will be built from scratch soon cant wait to try i have been stressin about finding some air cooled hoods for a horizontal grow but this may work ill also use a a/c really excited

thanks buddy, tryin my best to do ya proud :plant grow:

how did the HOG turn out for you? good?:smokeit: ive got a bunch started.

To be honest, all the phenos were disappointing and we never got a single pheno that looked like what they push on their ads. I hope you do better.

Nacho, Good luck. Keep us updated.

Hello Northern Farmer,
I am just now setting up a copy of your system here in Europe. I can't say exactly how long the stadium will be, but the height and width will be very much like yours. I'll be growing a kush type that is a notoriously low yielder, Sann1e's K0 Kush. (can I say that?)
I plan to use a three shelf system for the first grow, and maybe change to five shelves after that.
Pertinent to some of the last few posts in your thread here, the initial cost of lighting is an issue. 1000's of either type are really expensive, I guess because 600's are the industry standard here.
Sooo... I'm going to hang 2x 600 watt HPS one above the other on 22" or 25" centres, where you would have just used one 1000.
I have read this whole thread twice (once just now) so I know you just don't use 600's at all. However, I was hoping you could:

A/ comment or speculate as to the proper distance apart and the hanging height of the two bulbs in each set, and
B/ the best approach with this incredibly bushy, stocky, leafy plant. It only doubles height in stretch, at most.
Thanks for adding so much to the knowledge pool with just one thread.

i know you didnt ask me, but if i were using 600's in my room, i would have just built it 5 feet wide instead of 6'6". and if your not worried about numbers, go with 5 shelves. you have to veg quite a bit to fill the space between 3 and then you have to do alot of training to keep the bigger plants from falling over. im going to 6 shelves with rw slabs and drip/drain to waste. all that dirt in all those bags having to be hand watered is far more work and worry than its worth.

Hey there Mr. Stinky, Glad to hear from you.
5 feet hey? You think I'll be getting less penetration from two 600's than from one big boy then right? I was sort of thinking that might be the case. One side of our stadium is on casters, so I can make it happen. I'm not worried about numbers. It just seems like I won't have enough rooted cuttings to fill 5 shelves first run.
I like coco. It could be set up as drip too. Say, what the your height in you room? Six shelves is fine by me too. Once the clone factory is going, I'll pack them in as tight as you like. Are you growing something Kushy?

my rooms are 12 feet long and 6 high. i meant you should just hang them in line same as wee do, but just bring the sides a bit closer.

Two 600's is an interesting idea. 1200w spread apart vertically like that could really make a difference on the top and bottom shelves which for me often has weaker secondary typically. I'm a fan of overlapping light and I actaully only space my 1000's 22" apart give or take. I'm not going to try and talk you out of it simply because I really want to see how it works.

Stinky's idea is logical if you go with singles. As long as you can keep the temps down close to the bulbs, narrowing would get your plants into the denser light. Take extra care to not let your plants crowd if you go this route.

Thanks very much for the reply NF.
Do you think 18 inches is far enough between the two bulbs vertically?
I´ve been using a 4 inch bathroom extractor fan blowing up toward the bottom lamp for lowering temps. It´s working well with my current tree grow.
Sorry, do you mean don´t let the plants crowd each other, or don´t crowd the lamps?
Thanks again, Spanishwilly

I have no idea, sorry. I've never owned or used a 600. I"m the student if you go that direction.

I guess I meant both for crowding. Space gets used up quick if you narrow/shorten the room from 6.5 feet wide. I'm actually going to widen my next stadium a little because of the fewer but bigger plants getting too close to the bulbs. I may go down to 3 shelves as well. Laws are changing here so numbers are now to be considered by myself.

Mornin´ Northern,
I typed you up a big PM and then it logged me out and I lost it. Can I ask about dimensions again please? When you talk about a project being 10 feet long, that refers to the outside
(like wall to wall)as opposed to the inside of the canopy right?
