How to water while in vacation

I have had some success with the product that hash showed. I used them on vegetable plants that were started early indoors when I had to go away for 5 days. They seemed to work quite well. I don't know if they would be sufficient for a 2 week period, but I figure if you used a large enough res. or bucket with more than enough water/nutes they would. Where I am they are simply called automatic plant waterers and can be bought from Lee Valley for $8.95 for a set of 2. Lee Valley is a Canadian company but will ship to the U.S. If you have a large number of plants this may not be economically viable but they do seem to work well. Check them out @ www.leevalley.com .

I tried those and didn't use a big enough reservoir. I was gone for 2 weeks and came home to an empty res and a dead crop. I really don't know when it ran out but I had what I was sure was a big enough reservoir. It was a major setback for me so I haven't tried any other methods since, I just never leave home anymore for more than 5 days. I think I will try one of these other methods though.

Growell has some thing from germany called the "Topf Blumat" itsa a watering cone system, looks like what hashassin put up. U could try standing all ur pots on a table with some capillary matting under them on the tabletop, the end of the capillary matting goes over the edge and the end goes into ur res(use something big) U will need to wet the matting 1st all over then it will start to wick up. My grandad (God rest Him) was akeen gardener and used this method a lot. u can even buy cappilary trables by Autopot. Autopots aint much use ive been told, but these tables wopuld be good for clones I bet, anyway, check out the capillary matting m8 , other than that if there is no1 else growing with u who could keep em going i dont know what else to suggest, hope some my suggestions been useful.

Another thing to add,

I transplanted befrore going on a long trip, a rootbound plant can dry up in a day or two, while a freshly transplanted one will go longer. Think about it, good luck.

I think a regular aquarium air supply hose with an airstone mounted would wick the water just as fine as those fancy feeder devices. (And by using gravity as well you should be settled just fine.... (Unless it's nutes your wicking)
