$20 a 1/4 for mexican or columbian 60 for RKS and Northern Lights (no #) and 70 for Strawberry Fields and other well grown "homegrown" in the early 90's.
Hmmm, memory fuzzy, but I recall in the late 60's in SoFla, Panama Red & Columbian Gold could go for $8-10 for full baggies...
During the mid 70's, Monk (crapweed) was $15 an oz, Gainesville Green $18/oz. and Chronic over $20/oz...Jamaican Red, Thai Sticks and hash were plentiful but pricey...nobody weighed anything, and nobody sold quarters or dime bags.
Early 80's, prices krept up and mids went for over $25/oz. In 1983, I bought a couple oz's of avg schwag ($25 each) the day I moved to Denver. In Denver, mexi-brick was cheap & nasty (usually under $20/oz.), but there you could find Maui Wowie and Col. Gold for $30 an oz. In 1984, I moved back to Fl and the cheapest herb you could find had jumped to $40/oz.
The late 80's and early 90's brought few exotics into the mix, and prices continued to climb. This is partly due (I think) to the proliferation of targeted ops by local law enforcement (many major busts at the ports) in conjunction with the use of the Coast Guard & Naval reserves here in Fl. Oz's were going for over $100 if you could find some. By 1999, you couldn't touch anything decent for less than $175-200 an oz.
These days, there's little in the way of variety down here, and prices are all over the place. Last bag I bought was 2 years ago and it was $300 an oz. and only fairly good. That's when I decided to come out of the clouds for awhile.
Now, it's all about the seed price (which is a whole 'nuther story)!
Yrah.. East Texas and New Orleans was 20bucks an eight of Good mexican, Hash was at a premium and 20-40 a gram but it was so rare that they could ask whatever they wanted for it and still get Somebody to buy It,
We would get QPs of Good Mexican from the Yucatan.a few hours south of cancun, a real mom and pop operation.. They sold great weed for vey cheap.. Had an excellent Friend now Dead who got a hookup there, he would move a few dozen lbs regularly
BACK in the USA They cost 25 an eight 40-50 a quarter and about 160 for a nice fat ounce of Dank..
IF i was ever a dealer I would sell The finest pot at those proces for nostalgia sake
When i dry my mexican ladies i always put them in Zip lock bag, the qp size of good mexican weed in a ziplock.... sticking my nose in there..takes me back 20 yrs in a second..and the high is Good Clear and happy.. Alot like a sensi early girl. Makes me wonder if they used a mexican and a specific Yucatan strain for that cross..
I would trade it all in and go back to smoke that mexican if i Could.. Smoke up..its later than you think..
Man now I feel like a young bird but back in Texas in the eighties I was paying 25 dollars for a bag of descent stuff like that kick ass old school skunk that I needed to keep in 2 or 3 zip lock bags and you could still smell it when it was pulled out of my pocket, man I haven't seen that stuff in ages and would love to get some o that seed. Never could back then afford much more than a 1/4 oz. peace ya'll
Seedless Baled (ie. fluffy, not bricked) Mexican and Panamanian was about $200/lb when I started smoking in the 90s. This was in Southern NM. Usual varieties where the Oaxcan and Panamanian reds and some Acupulco golds (although, they were usually more brown than gold). When I started smoking US grown indica and ybrid strains it was about $250/oz. So much less than the usual $400-500/oz I've seen recently.
My first time smoking was when several friends and I kicked in togetehr to scrape up $30 for a half ounce of Panama Red in 78.
50 cents a joint at the beginning of spring, but because of drought and paraquat, by summer it was $1.00, and Panama Red could not be found.
I remember buying Thai stick from a hippy in the woods where we hung out. I think it was $10 a stick, and the only requirement he had to sell it to us was to smoke it with him and his friend.... ummm pass the stick man!
Also available until the middle of that summer but at almost double the previous prices:
regular Columbian, Columbian Gold, Columbian Mud (tasted like shit but fucked you up like the Gold), Hawaiian Blue/Red/Green/Purple, Red Hash, Morroccan Black Hash, Lebanese Blonde Hash.
Panama Red has ALWAYS been my favorite! The smoke that eminated from the joint was very very thick, and the thick sweet aroma from the smoke was exceptionally pleasant to the nose, and equally sweet to the palate. Within minutes you were aware of the powerful high that made you mellow out and kick back to enjoy the company of your inner circle of friends in the woods or on top of the cliffs... ahhhhhhh
I wish I could find true Panama Red seeds, that would be all I would grow for myself.
90 pound an ounce for soap bar... can you believe it? ...went for 15 an eighth til the late nineties before dropping to as low as 30-40 an oz (shouldn't be allowed to GIVE that shit away btw) - 450- 550 on the bar in 1991-1997
"flat press" (low grade polm, but clean) was the same price but had a really low "2 joint" ceiling
half decent paki/indian black same price, varying qualities from the lovely "elephant black" to the awful port bunk/cardiff gack - the good stuff was to be prized though... very strong put you on your ass hit.
pressed afro/thai weed also the same price though for a while people charged more round our way as it was the cleanest thing with a good buzz on it. (we used to call it telephone directory, but i guess its what the Americans refer to as "brick" weed - lots of sticks n seeds but a great, giggly high to be had if you loaded up on it)
*Soap Bar
repressed maroc polm brought through spain and reconsituted with ganja oil and adulterants - the idea being that its easier to smuggle a kilo of oil than 10 kilos of hash
5 bucks for 5 fingers of local Home Grown. Some real shit weed. Leaf and shake.
Around 1981 or 82.......Grams of Thia stick or Buddha for $20.00 wrapped in foil hit the scene. Mexican brick weed with a ton of seeds and paraquat also around that time.
Considering I paid $20.00 per gram in 1982.........$20.00 per gram now is a steal.

Anyone remember "Christmas Tree" in So Cal during the early 80s? What was that?

for me in the early 90's a big envellope of a kind of african, sometimes in brick sometimes not and often average power and rarely top notch was about 100ff, i mean 15 euros for today, and the letter envellope was around 15/25gms.
at the same period a friend grown some bagseed around his swimming pool and without any experience and hopefully,he had 4 big trees and about 2.8 kilos of a top strong laughing and paranoid maker weed.
he gave me all along the year about 1kilo,maybe more, filling my tobbacco pouch many times every weeks....
nobody knew good weed in france ( and we didn't too before this lucky grow) at this time period exept a few people.
Mid 60's UK had sticky charas for about 25p (35c)/gm, but then they were '5 bob deals' .... same price bought you a 'droll' of weed, twisted in a piece of paper, £10 got you an oz, £8 if you were lucky and always quality stuff .... a pound of afghan hash for £100
Thai sticks when they first appeared in were over 6" long, tied with red silk and sold for £5 each, but they weighed around 4 gms, lovely bricks of twenty for £75 .....
I remember in the mid 70's, good mex or columbo was a pretty stable $30 an OZ and $115 a QP....all day long every day (I'm talkin redbud/goldbud colombians and "waheecan" mex as we called it). QP's were always easy to find if you were even close to hooked up, but very rarely would you be able to purchase an LB or more, unless you were super hooked. I was a lucky kid that had mentors before I could shoot good load. (sorry for the analogy)
I also saw Panama Red going for exactly double the price of anything else. And it was quite worth every penny! An unmistakable look, feel, and high. No passing off anything for PR. It was unique. Many would not buy it at all....way too much money for pot. (LOL)
I remember vividly to this day the first PR lid my cousin and I scraped together and purchased...(a lid was 1/2 OZ (and a pinch more)to us...)
We never finished the first large joint that 4 of us stoked up. We were supposed to be playing baseball next door and the gang wondered where we were. We showed up stoned to the bone and chinese eyed. "What the heck is wrong with your guys?" LOL...those were the dayz.
I think it may have been the paraquat that incresed the prices in may areas, but it stayed about $30 an OZ for years. When it jumped, it went out of control.
I was in Europe for a couple of years in the late 70's, and when I came back to the states, weed had gone crazy. Imagine having to fork out $45-$50 for an ounce of redbud! Unheard of! Then the red tailed off.......and disappeared in the early/mid 80's.
Around 1970 we were sitting in someone's kitchen and a friend says "look what my brother sent from vietnam" as he pulls out a duffle-bag filled with pillow cases filled with round Kiwi shoe polish tins. Inside the tins was a round cake of hashish..black with white swirly stipes going through it. We knew what the hash was..what we didn't know was the opium..man we were blitzed for months..have not ever seen that again...

I remember crying how the world was gonna end at $20.00 bux a 4 finger lid. Late 60's early 70's in New England could get really dry and costly. Til Jack moved to Az. and started sending $200 buck keys via footlockers on the train. Going to pick up those footlockers was a real life Cheech and Chong movie. Getting written up for illegal parking while shoving 10 k in the family station wagon. " No Officer it's my mom's car ... yes sir she knows I have it." The theory was since we all drove shitboxes with dopey stickers and god'seyes and festoonery of the time that it was better to borrow a family wagon to make the runs.
Aint no story like Henry's run to Acapulco to get those golden keys. But we had a high time and a lot of fun and we thought it would last forever.
Anyone remember The New Riders of the Purple Sage? Damn fine band. Their first pedal steel player wasnt too bad neither.
