I'm surprised with the poll so far. I thought it was going to be more even to be honest. Makes me feel better with my decision not to get the flu shot anymore.

The CDC didn't recommend a yearly flu shot until 2010. This struck me as odd.

I agree with Brunch that "at risk" people should probably get one. Also if you work with the elderly it might not be a bad idea.

results surprise me some, kind of huge actually
get shots every year, no issues from shot at all
though i did get the flu last year, was a bad one
to be fair, the vaccine came out as a bad fit that year

Not shocked at the results...people won't trust anything they cant feel working..I have hand Influenza type A and B at the same time. Influenza must be lab confirmed as well. Many times a doctor will tell someone they have the flu when it is just a cold. Influenza can get real even in healthy people. I spent two weeks wishing I was dead and was fatigued with a bad cough for months. I was hospitalized for a week and I am in no way in the at risk groups.

I have never felt sick from a flu shot. I really believe people who say they get sick after either became infected with a different pathogen or it is all psychosomatic(in their head). Since it has no effects other then a chance of preventing a lifethreatening illness, its a no brainer for me to get the shot.

We all agree to disagree and i think if you didnt feel right doing something then that's your human right to so. Just offering an opposing position to the majority here.

i think a lot of peeps do get sick from flu shots, not real sick but noticeable
but like mentioned the real flu is nasty, it's worth the trade imo
i also think if you get it every year, you get an 'immunity' to side effects, builds up your immune muscles
and a study showd that those who regularly get flu shots have lower rates of heart disease
they are not sure why though

No flu shot in over a decade and I think I've only come down with it once.

I don't agree with the backlash against vaccines in general, especially as most of it is fueled by "scientific" websites spreading FUD without any actual evidence.

Go to Africa and see how well homeopathy works against malaria or whooping cough.

I meet people who think doctors cause cancer.

"My buddy never went to a doctor in his life, except once when they told him he had cancer and then he died a few monthes later. Never go to a doctor."

Their buddy usually neglects to mention he lived with pain for years and died of an entirely treatable form of cancer.

Roaring stupidity is alive and well, living longer than Darwin would have thought thanks to advances in medical science.

We're not talking about cancer or polio. We're talking about the flu which is a wrong thing to vaccinate against because it needs to done annually. Influenza aka, the flu, populations experience genetic drift and are constantly changing.

Let me put it this way, if we gave everyone a few cannabis beans people would grow them out. Some genetics would cross, some would mutate, some would create new sports. Ultimately, we would end up with MORE strains of cannabis than what we started with. Its the same process with the flu vaccine and we are simply creating more strains of the flu through vaccine dissemination.

i've been looking at those heaters, but there is no natural gas service in this neighborhood. a big propant tank would work, but it aint exactly free. rather just not have the flu if it's ok with y'all...:tiphat:

That sounds like quitter talk.

I've probably still got an Arabian strain of stomach flu going through my system, I'll send you a few napkins coated in bodily fluid.

No need to thank me, I'm just happy to share.

The flu germ is not alive in the vaccine. You can't get the flu from it. It is impossible. The dead flu germs do have the power to initiate an immune response in your body though so if those same flu germs are alive and somehow come in contact with you your immune system has a head start and kicks their ass.

We don't have to worry about small pox and other things because of vaccines. If we did and people were getting small pox and polio all you people saying you don't get vaccines would be lining up to get them when you saw what was happening to people around you.

The flu can be very bad. It can kill otherwise healthy people under the right circumstances. It can kill the young, old and weak more easily.

If you got the flu even though you get a flu shot you ran into a virus that was not included in the shot. They make predictions on what strains to cover based on what flu outbreaks happened in countries that had flu season before us.

IMO drugs are a tool to be used not to be feared. Better living through chemistry. All for one and one for all. Get your shots and get your kids their shots and be a good team member.

I think there is a common belief that just because you haven't been sick in an amount of time that you just don't get sick and have some super immune system. Many people use it to feel superior to others. However, just because you havent been sick doesn't mean it won't happen ever. The Spanish Flu killed young healthy adults at the highest rates. It does seem like the people who never get sick are the ones who try to walk it off/suck it up/not be a wimp (or others more negative words) are the people who end up with easily treatable conditions that are pushed way to long until it becomes serious.

The main reason people don't get sick is that the aren't exposed to pathogens at high levels and that is a mixture of modern hygiene, herd immunities from vaccines, and antibiotic to treat infections which allows our immune system to work at its highest potential.

so people get sick from the anti-bodies? The vaccine is a mild inoculation of the flu that stimulates the body to create anti-bodies, nes't pas?

Yes our antibodies will stimulate an inflammatory response to anything they have developed an antigen for. The inflammatory response is what makes us feel sick: fever runny nose aches and pains. I have never had such a response to the flu shot but it is proven that some people can have mild effects from the immune response to the inactivated virus in the shot.
