Fukien hell,,,

If we don't label genetics properly, then we are doing cannabis itself a disservice,,,names and marketability is a joke. I'd rather buy a seed line with a breeding map than a hyped name any day. If it's a credit to the gene pool then it should be perpetuated ,,if it's not cull the fucker ,,end of,,,who cares about marketability..

Tom ducked out due to his own choice,,,I'm happy he's back ..I'm appalled to see people trying to discredit him. He's one of the only people here who are a credit to drug canna and its preservation ! ,,,shame on anyone who makes this personal. Actions speak louder than words and his actions are commendable!

Really boils down to respect and character

If I wanna breed with your cross , strain that I purchased. I will TRY to contact you and get your blessing. If you say no chances are I'm going to anyway as I payed for the seeds. If the seeds were gifted and you say no - I won't )

If I can't reach you for a response , I'll mention you in the description ( green crack times alien rock candy - f1 seeds made by bird dog )
These debates never seem to end in Internet world ( but it's ok I enjoy reading them with my coffee and a blunt)

Why is it you never see say karma , bodhi and a few others never involved in these debates
I'm thinking the answer is they have character and our respect
Good coffee read none the less

As for the op bb question by all means call that yocs bb after all you took Djs blueberry seeds and worked them 4 gens into your chose pheno. Just don't sell them without respectfully saying I started with Djs blueberry seeds and worked it 4 generations

You guys really think DJ Short answers PM's for every person that wants to work with his Blueberry? Yeah I'll just give him a call we can chill out and talk about it over some chicken tacos and a few joints! No problem!

Tom Hill was banned for quite some time. How would I of gotten permission from him until recently?

Chimera has not been too available even at his home forum and ignoring PM's.

Mr Soul just now decided to jump back in the game. How on earth would all the people using C99 and Apollo of gotten permission from a guy like that?

Some of these guys are pretty unavailable and no place to be found. Some seeds are old and the original breeders do not even have the capability to reproduce the lines themselves. Lots of parental stock is lost for various reasons.

Do we have our lawyers draw up the paperwork from now on? Will we have to buy papers for breeding rights like dogs? Maybe someday but far from it right now. This is fucking lawless country and if a line is sacred to you then don't whore her out. Keep her close and among tight friends.

For the record I have never heard of a single breeder putting labels on their packs asking people not to breed with the seeds they are about to pay an insane amount of money for. You guys ever signed a disclaimer/no compete agreement before purchasing genetics? Neither have I.

Specifically speaking about DJ Short and Tom H most of their current customers are buying beans to breed with. How many people have long term keepers from say Deep Chunk? It's a breeding tool not something I would expect to find the next big clone only elite. Can't be too surprised people are breeding with it and selling the crosses.

Tom Hill, Chimera, Mr Soul, DJ Short, Shantibaba, Sam Skunkman, are all fake names. As far as I know only one of the few listed has his own website where we can contact him. You can't just send an email to most of those guys asking for anything at all. You can't call their cellphone or leave a message with their receptionist. This business is still quite a few years away from things like that.

Fucking straight up no mans land...

Act accordingly peeps!

this is a great post Bob, because it illustrates my point exactly.

I believe that it's something like this is why we even have plant patents and breeder's rights laws. In the beginning, Monsanto had nothing to do with it. Breeder's rights were made by breeders for breeders...

Outside of the our recent problems of suing farmers into poverty by greedy multi-national corporations ... Plant patents and Breeder's rights really do serve a good purpose... At least it is the intention. It's about protection.

Think about it like this, how is someone supposed to feed, clothes and house one's self if they spend all their waking moments in a greenhouse? Coaxing out the very best a plant can give can take a long time... wouldn't you agree? I mean, real profitable breeders germinate 100's even 1000's of seeds and make 100's even 1000's of crosses yearly... They test all the progeny, each and every seed. They must cull 99 times as much as they keep, and spend years, maybe decades developing new varieties. Everything from ornamental woody perennials to herbaceous annual food crops... there are breeders who spend their lives trying to improve it.

without protection, without royalties, how could that happen? How could they afford to live if there was no real way to get paid?

What incentive does a man have to pursue a life long dream dedicated to his one true calling...

Tell him it's a free for all so, he's fucked.

Anonymity is about protection also. Breeder's create pseudonyms to protect themselves from international law. Black market cannabis breeder fame obviously doesn't come cheap.

Funny part is I have very close friends that own multiple plant patents in the ornamental horticulture area and he really makes no money off of the trees. He got to name the variety and claim credit for innovation. But the money made came from doing legit research at a top level university. Most of the time they get paid a salary from the college to be research professors, and scientist. The schools get government and private grants to finance it all. That's how they can afford to hang out in greenhouses.

People "breeding" in tents will not be able to compete with people that have PHDs and decades of research experience, contacts in the agricultural industry, been to hundreds of trade shows and seminars for continuing education, most likely have loads of published articles, etcetera, etcetera. I could go on and on but you get the idea. These guys are preparing to patent things in ways 99.99% can't comprehend. How many people on here have applied for a research grant? How many people here have actually gone through the plant patent process? How many have advanced degrees in plant science, horticulture, GENETICS? Yeah news flash you can actually get a PHD in plant genetics! Imagine that shit!

The heat is coming and it won't necessarily be a bad thing for home growers. Tom has said it time and time again. People only need a cut to work with. Patenting every heirloom variety won't do a bit of good if the masses don't want to consume the product.

One of my people just posted this up on the Bodhi Thread.Kinda strange on the timing of this discussion.

Bodhi
'im also dropping all my dj short mother cuts and breeder steve cuts (blockhead), and giving away any hybrids made with them. they have very different ideas on plant ownership than me and its best to respectably move in different directions. ive always given away any dj mother cut hybrids away free, but those are his babies, and i feel he wants them to be experienced, not worked with. breeder steve seems to be very sensitive about people using his genetics too, so no more blockhead stuff. this will not effect any hybrids of hybrids like blue dream or snow lotus, or old seed finds."

Bodhi is the real deal

And I would do the same... I have a list a mile long, first thing on there to acquire was djshort.

Been contemplating not growing djshort after this thread.

Lol

Unethical Opportunists

Unethical Opportunists

If you are not selling the strain, call it whatever name that fits.

If you are selling the strain... it becomes an ethical question to using the blueberry name for marketing and getting permission from the creator to use it.

Btw... what is your DP BB like at F4? I've read people here on the forums complain about Blueberry having problems from being inbred. If you are at f4... the line must be at f10 or so....

Didn't DJ already speak on the subject of using his strains and name?

420 Words On Various Unethical Opportunists:

First, I would like to clarify that I have no problem with the ‘hobby botanist’ who plays around with my work and who share their experiments with other ‘hobby botanists’. This is acceptable and appreciated when the project is done with honesty and integrity, especially publically.

I have no problem with qualified med patients getting the most specific and best medicine possible. It pleases many when good herb is readily available.

What are not acceptable are the unethical opportunists who attempt to commercially profit off of someone else’s work without their consent or authorization. Integrity means much to me and I simply will not allow some unscrupulous parasite to sully my reputation. In a fair and legal marketplace with a level playing field, legal recourse for such breaches of trademark, copyright, patent, branding and overall intellectual property rights would be dealt with commonly, quickly and thoroughly.

For the record: ‘DJ Short’ and ‘DJ Short’s Delta-Nine Collection’ is the sole owner of the names, descriptions, ancestral and parental breeding stock and intellectual development rights to the strains; “Blueberry”, “flo” (“Flo”, “Flow”, “Floe”, “Original Flo”,etc.), “Blue Moonshine” (“Original Blue Moonshine”), “Blue Velvet”, “Blue Heaven”, “Purple Passion”, “Blueberry Sativa” (aka “Blue Satellite”), “Blueberry Kush”, “Blueberry Kind”, “Cocoa Kush”, “Vanilluna”, “Moonshine Rocket Fuel”, “F-13”, “Grape Krush”, “Rosebud”, “Original Blueberry”, “Blueberry Bud”, “True Blueberry”, “Old Time Moonshine”, “The Cross”, “Double Cross”, etc., etc., among others, and there exists verifiable and documented proof to back these claims of ownership. Unauthorized reproduction, distribution or commercial marketing of any of these strains, in seed, clone, or ‘other’ form, or the unauthorized use of these strain names or descriptions is strictly prohibited. Violators will, eventually, be held liable to the full extent of the law.

It never ceases to amaze me how charlatans with zero originality or integrity are able to dupe the gullible masses into a totally hype-induced marketing ploy. Where the greedy and unprincipled prey upon the uninformed, the Noble Warriors will choose to attempt to enlighten.

It begs to be stated that those who so lack originality and integrity are really quite, lame.

To those who argue: “you can’t own a plant, get over it.” I ask: Is it OK for some thug to steal the plants from your garden, your work, because, after all, finders keepers, right?

I think not.

Apologies for the slightly off-topic rant. Thank you for your time, consideration and understanding regarding this matter. I appreciate your support. Much happy health and growth to all.
