how does autoflower do in small pots

How about using one of the small containers, say milk cartons, hempy-style? I have no experience with this but from reading the hempy threads it looks like good results can be had.

In my experience auto's and small container's do not mix well.

I think this comment is to broad because from what I found is the above is true for normal plastic pots and grow bags but when you use smartpots or airpots ( I think they are called airpots. ) it is not correct.

With the containers being plastic the roots grow down and begin to circle the bottom and they get root bound sooner. But with using Smartpots and Airpots the roots do not circle like in plastic so that in turn gives the roots more room and grows a bigger plant. Also being that they dry out faster I can feed more because I water more.

Here is a G13 x Hashplant x Lowryder in a 2 gallon smart pot and in this picture just barely started to flower at 40 days from seed.

Milk cartons should give you decent results, especially if you mix some coco in.
Tall containers work best imho, auto's tap root loves to go very deep.

Good luck

i'm going to be using large...but shallow containers for my auto's in a few days. is it a problem if the tap root can't go too deep?

under my current run i used 250ml cans (redbull cans) mixed catsand mixed in the soil , regular foodstore soil , only urine as fertilizer (really good) and they got 15cm tall until showing preflowers ,only needed to water every 2to 3 days! now with 1 liter pots i only need to water every 3-4 days i believe that the element i need to thank for this is the catsand made by danish moler

usually the bigger the pot the bigger the plant could be depending on the strain. I did a little hydro setup in a beer can for a 16oz competition a few years ago that got me 1.6 oz dried so you never really know until the end of the grow :)

Small containers are good if you want your plants to stay small, and the best bet would be a tall container like that milk cart, so the roots get to grow down not around the pot. I think that in Hydro it doesn't matter as much but in soil growing it really matters!

Just sayin,, went from 1 gal to 2 gal,, to 3 gal,,, to 5 gal.
Every pot sized increase added more bud,, and less watering.

Not sayin nothing about your room so it's hard sayin.

Agreed, I think a one gallon coco grow hempy style could handle most autos out there.

It is true that bigger pots will give you bigger plants but if the conditions are not suitable for large pots then better to use taller than wider pots.

I couldn't agree more!

If you get yourself some of these bottles..

You can cut the top off one, then take another one and cut the bottom and top off it leaving you with a "tube" that fits into the first bottle now get some duct tape and wrap the whole lot in it.. This will give you a 9 litre pot (2 gallon) that has a 15cm (6") footprint and most importantly is square so there is no wasted floor space. I've had mine for two years and they are still in perfect condition..

If budget is tight...buy waste baskets containers @ Dollar Store/Dollar Tree/ Xeno's/Blokker's or the like....a cheap store w/ lots of plastic ware. Drill holes in bottom and 2" from bottom on sides for good drainage....holds about 2-2.5 gallons of soil.
