How do you germ your seeds?

And Alex, I know your philosophy is "the simpler, the better" but I'm curious anyway. :D

I was wondering, when you're germinating seeds, could you germ faster with a growth suppliment? Would that even work for seeds? I know they work well for established plants, but I was wondering about whether that could be used for germinating seeds as well.

I have no ideas, i never really tried nor had the need. I have found that using the glass of water makes them germ and have long taproot well within 24-36 hours. So i really havent seen the purpose in changing anything since the germ very fast as it is. I really dont mess with giving the plant much stuff when its young. I just give it some water and dirt and let it grow till i can see some real leaves forming. Im against feeding them when they are young, seen to many peopel burn seedlings that way.

Hell, I'm with you there---I don't feed them until they're at least 2 weeks old, and are showing signs of needing nutrients.

About the seeds, though, not a big deal. Like I said, I was just curious.

Look at that, we agree on something!!! Hey its a start, lol. Anyway i hoped that i helped you some. But again i keep it very simple in the beginning. My germing method gives me 100% success and does so well within 48 hours or less. Usually 24-36 hours tops. I like water to be room tempature and seems to help. Im funny about mother nature. When i water plants i usually give them water at room temp when they are in veg and flower and toward the end of flower i start making the water colder. In nature in the sping and summer for example rain water is warmer and thats where most plants get water. But towards end of summer and fall rain is colder and in turn i make water colder to let plant know its time to finish up, its getting cold.

Anything i can do to re create mother nature seems to help em

I like Mr nevermind's approach to germinate seedz... its so simple, but we get so anxious that sometimes we can **** up a simple process,,,, all the seedz needs to germinate is heat , air and water.... Nevermind, your process is quite nice, what people dont know is that the micro fibers can damage the root.. so I think the best process is to soak them in good water and darkness.. But I dont think we should let the seed more than 24 hours soaked.. it could cause the seed to get too wet and it may have an oxygen depravation... Nevermind, have you found that you can leave the seedz soaked for more than 24 hs with no problems?? Let me Know.....

i've always just popped them into a cup of water, stirred it up and left them in the dark for 3 days. works great and i don't have to worry about being straight enough to remember to wet the paper towels. :)

some pop in 4 or 5 days but i believe that if they don't pop in water they won't pop any other way either.

I get a small container ready with perilite and soil and prep it by running hot water threw it. Then i plant the seed 1/4 inch or so under the soil and give it a slight press down to have moist dirt contacting the entire seed. Then I take sandwich bags and but the container in the sandwich bag and zip it up this i find helps retain moisture. When the seed cracks I usually pull the bag off andrepot then go ahead with vegative growth.

I soak till they sink then put them in a fine grain seed starting mix and set them in a cool spot with low light, once they surface and green up they go under CFLs.

just plant in my grodan until sprouted, then transplanted.

i also store my seeds in a plastic bag inside a film canister with the lid taped off w/ electric tape and stored in fridge

The old paper towel method has never failed me, always 100% germination.

1 layer of paper towels in the bottom of a tupperware box, wet slightly with lukewarm water (pour off any excess) then the seeds sandwiched between this layer and another layer on top. Wet the top layer slightly, seal the box, stick somewhere warm (on top of digital tv box works for me) 24-48 hours later they've usually all cracked and showing a little taproot.
