How did you start?

How did you start learning which strains you like?

Did you buy one seed of each strain and grow them out or grow 2 or 3 plants of the same strain at a time?

I only have 6 pots open in my tent so I was wondering how best to use these to learn what I like to grow and smoke.

Would you plant 6 different strains?

Hello DoDad...you won't actually know what you like till you grow it out...
Breeder description is a good start....but even still...what they say...&...what you think you like may vary..
I wouldn't do 6 different strains unless feminized....even then I wouldn't do 6 different...maybe 3 of one kind & 3 of another...cause even if you get a female..don't mean you'll like that particular plant..
If not fem seeds...I'd go with popping a whole pack of one kind...then pick the 6 best females..
Just my :2cents:

Hi Dreaded and thanks for your response.

Yes, fem seeds only and stable strains from reliable seed breeders. Maybe I'll try to run 2 seeds each different strains.

Yes reading those descriptions help but there is no substitute for actually growing and smoking the strain.

First do you have an idea what you are looking for?

Type of high? Up, down, balanced, high CBC medical?
Flavor?
Type of growing style?

If you are not sure, then I would start by reading some descriptions and then looking at some grow journals and ask some questions of the folks who have grown the strain.

First thing would be to narrow down the type of high/stone you desire. Then find a strain that fits that description and research from there.

Have you grown before? Smoked enough to tell the difference in effect?

Give us some more info and we will help ya out!

Best,
Les

Do Dad,

Perhaps if you suggested the type of high/stone you like folks here would share what strains they thought would work for you. Personally I like the narrow leaf "sativa" strains for the energetic, trippy highs. Some of the best breeders don't sell fems, although I have no problem with them. I'd be looking at Ace and Cannabiogen for those up, no couch lock types.

Cool. I am completing my first grow right now.

I've smoked enough mexican brick weed to refloat the titanic but I haven't smoked much premium weed.

I have made some tentative selections based on their descriptions.

I am looking ONLY for daytime wake and bake strains. Uplifting, motivating, creative etc.

Jacky White - Jack and white Widow
Casey Jones - Trainwreck x Thai x Sour Diesel
Juanita la lagrimosa - Reina Madre x Diesel x Afghan/Hawaiian
Esko's Oaxacan IBL

I was thinking I could do 2 fem seeds of each and have a very interesting grow.

if you get the oaxacan, put a little note on the order (theres a place for it) that says "please may I have the santa maria fem freebee if its at all possible, thank you very much :)"

trust me.

I never tried the Jackie White (heard very good things tho) nor the Juanita, but I liked the Casey a lot and I got a pack of the Oaxacan in the fridge :)

hehe I only say "trust me" as if you look, the page says there are no fem freebees at this time.. but if you ask nicely.. maybe the cannagods will be kind :)

Ah, ok.

The juanita by reggae seeds is interesting. It's my high CDB 1:1 strain with an upbeat social buzz. Most of the medical strains I found were couch lockers and or, were such low THC plants, there was no buzz at all. This one seems to get you baked and wakes you up while delivering a good amount of CBD's. It's a hash plant too.

When I googled " favorite daytime smoke" many of the topics mentioned Jacks, trainwrecks after Blue SSH. Aka Blue dream. White widow was mentioned often too so I looked for hybrids that were Jack H, Trainweck, sour D and widow crosses. That's how I came up with Casey Jones and Jacky White. Come to find out, they are both cup winners.

I think these 4 strains are good selections to try for me as daytime smokes. All come in fems and with the exception of the OAX IBL, are sold as pick n mix. I can buy 1 or 100 seeds at Herb's.

All will cost about $125 shipped including Eskos and should keep me entertained for the next 3-4 months. :)

learn to take cuttings and it could keep you entertained for many a year :)

I'm a cutting taking fool. At least I have the last part right.

I take a lot, root a lot then throw them away because I don't have room to grow them out. Don't have room in my apartment for my hobby.

I did have some hermie issues last time I planted cuttings and of course I blamed the plants genetics rather than my lack of experience.

The good news is, I don't need to grow a lot or high potency. 4 oz of schwag lasts me a year. (I use a very efficient vape.)

The reason I started to grow was to increase my intake of CBD while growing a bit of head stash. If I can just accomplish those two goals, this endeavor will be a success.

So, am I to assume by the silence that my selections have been approved by the IC mag committee?

lol they're all known to be good strains (the Oaxacan is a bit of an unknown, or this version of it is anyway) but no one reading this would turn down a nice looking bud of any of the strains you have outlined so it's unlikely anyone is gonna come and say "no way, wtf you doin wit dat shit homie".. and that's assuming they even spoke like that :D

if you're trying to increase your CBD intake, have you considered just buying some CBD oil off amazon?

Hi, first some advice from someone who knows nothing.

BD and GC are two of the most popular wake and bakes. If you google wake and bake strains, blue dream is #1. It's Dj's shorts blue berry x Super silver haze, I believe.

Perhaps interesting, or not, it's snoop dogs fav, Blue dream x Master OG Kush. (Go figure)

As a new grower myself I can tell you from experience that the quickest way to failure is trying to be a mad scientist and the quickest way to have some success is join us in this thread.

Hempy / k.i.s.s. is the shiznit and can be addicting. You have been officially forewarned :)

Oh, they speak like that. I watch a lot of Youtube videos on weed. Makes me proud to be associated with um, "dat" community.

I hadn't considered Amazon for CBD but if it's not out of my budget it may be worth a consideration. Thanks.

You may or may not be interested but I can tell you with some degree of certainty that CBD cures that which doesn't ail you.

IME, CBD's should be the new Vitamin C and part of our regular dietary program. Even I didn't believe that until I got a vape and then I was astonished at how well my body responded.

I don't want to get off on a tangent here but these CBD's when absorbed properly helps my body function smoother, even though I am a very healthy male.

I smoked pot every day for decades and never saw anything healthful about weed. I picked up a good vape and within 48 hours I could see changes in my health. Just sayin'. You don't have to be sick to appreciate the benefits of CBD. It's good 'chit mon!

Oaxaca, Oaxaca. I have been there. Loved the place and the weed. I will say this about that IBL. Insiders told me it's one to run and that esko is working on his own version of AG to replace all that Barney's crap all the land race people complain about. 5 bucks a bean shipped isn't a lot to pay for that amount of fun.

Hehe. All this talk of Santa Maria makes me wonder if I should pass on it after all. Someone else who I value their opinion suggested I look at that strain for my next run.

The same person also suggested reina madre queen mother which lead me to Juanita so I'm getting good advice on what to grow.

Not knowing anything and presented with all these options is daunting. I started out thinking Moscas c99 bx1, Bohdi Apollo 11 was the be all, end all, and now I'm considering Jack.

I looked at a few Jack crosses and their phenos but rather than run a semi pure Jack like Karma or Saneez or one from sensi I decided to try a hybrid that included a Jack. I'm told, you can't got wrong with Jack Herer for a daytime smoke but a too racy C99 might ruin my day. Bohdi's gear is too hard to find and pricey. It was the genius pheno I was interested in but couldn't find it. Prayer tower was another Bodhi I studied.

Santa Maria popped up in one of Eskos hybrids but don't recall which one. That strain seems to be mentioned a lot lately in the things I'm reading. Maybe I should look harder and find some room.

I've come a long way in my knowledge from bag seed but still don't know anything other than what I have read from people I trust to know. I have near zero actual experience with anything.

Having said that, I think I'm getting solid advice both in public and private and one of those people I consider trustworthy to tell me accurate information is Mr. shoes.

Trust the experts, but verify by doing my own research is always the best way to be in the know about anything. You can't soar with Eagles if you run with a bunch of Turkeys.

Why you don´t go with Skunk & Northern Lights or other afghan and start from there?

You have many Skunk and afghan/skunk with different comercial names, affordable prices and suited for people with no much experience.

My :2cents:

I looked for strains that the description said: Euphoric, energizing, cerebral, uplifting, creative, motivating, giggly, not good for insomnia and those that did, got a bookmark.

Any description that mentioned sleep, pain, or the words couch lock got tossed from further consideration.

I'm really looking for a wake and bake good time strains. One that I will vape and do physical activities. Ride bikes, do marathons, you know, live the good active life.

As I googled every wake and bake aka daytime strain thread I could find, and several strains kept coming up as what people suggested for wake and bakes.

Eventually, I had my list then looked for hybrids that contained as many of these "recommended daytime strains" as I could find in one strain.

Jack, Trainwreck, white widow and sour D were in that top 5 list of most recommended "single" strains so my plan is to taste all 4 in two hybrids. Hence the Casey Jones and Jacky white.

The Oaxacan is a wild card but my guess is it would be like that of the 1970's. It's a Mexican Sativa in part that I know so well. It's likely the old hippy dippy carefree weed we used to love so much and was such a mind flush. It's Sam Adams, not Budweiser.

The high CBD strain Juanita? It has this description: It has a very clean cerebral high, high, high, that will keep you thinking, talking and moving, very sociable but not very good for relaxing.

Sounds perfecto! AND a 1:1 CBD plant too? Extra +++ Cool!

Really, every one these strains I have selected have descriptions that are interchangeable and sound like they could be same strain.

I eliminated every strain that talked about a hard crash, could cause hearts to race, create anxiety or paranoia or hallucinations as that's not what I want in my daily driver.

Technically, I'm doing pretty well for my first grow. My guess is as long as I buy good seeds I can up my chances for success.
