Why would you say that? I have used Several brands of the standard 1000w hps bulbs, and now i only use 1000w hortilux super hps bulbs and have had noticeable change in growth, bud size, and a slight potency increase. The plants don't stretch quite as much when compared to using a regular hps bulb, they also seem to yield denser thicker buds. I can't prove it, but i have had a bunch of grows under my belt and have used a bunch of different hps ballasts and bulbs.
Granted, you do pay a little extra...so someone on a tight budget might prefer a standard hps bulb. But, for growers like me and i know alot of people can agree that a little extra money spent for even a 5-10% increase in yield, is worth it. I get my hortiluxes a little cheaper than most though, i believe i pay about $64 for a 1000w hortilux (haven't bought a bulb from there in 3 months though, it may have went up a tad). Some people pay alot more, granted i wouldn't spend more than about $80 on a bulb. the new hortilux blue mh bulbs are a ripoff, almost $200 for a bulb.
