Whats Up Guys???

I started this thread in the Outdoor Forum but decided I should move it to the AF forum. These were previous posts...

Figured it was time to get my 2009 thread started. I'm going to be growing some Jem's. Last year I got these AF seeds, but due to rainy fall weather I wasn't able to grow them. This is the first time I've tried growing AF's. Last year I put a couple mothers I had on 24-0 light schedule outside and budded them in the spring time. I want to try and make this perpetual by planting seeds every month or so. Just keep rotating them in keeping the females and culling the males. However this first run so I'm going to try to make some seed stock. As of right now I have 3 Females and 2 males. 3 More plants haven't shown sex yet. I started them about 3 weeks ago. We had rain for a few days but since then its been in the 80s to 90s. They should start to take off right now...

Anyways here's the pics.

Whats up guys?

Time for an update.
I repoted the confirmed females into a 5 gallon pot. Hit them with a lil bit of nutes and they seem be taking off. They were staying pretty short for awhile but now are starting to stretch. I have one male still in a small pot. I want to try and stunt it for a few weeks till the females need to be pollinated. Temps have been in the 80s lately. Perfect growing weather...

Heres some pics from today... :rasta:

Update

Alright Guys these are recent pics from today...

Temps have cooled off this week. We went from low 90s to mid 70s. I was out doing some yard work today and even felt a few springs. Couple of thunder storms moving through. I'll take this cooler weather over that near 100 degree temps we had a few weeks ago though ha... Plants have been fattening up slowly. I think I need to start hittin them with some bloom ferts soon. They looked a little light green when I was uploading the pics right now. The two confirmed males I have look like they may start opening up next week sometime. I will most likely collect the pollen then put it on the fems a few weeks later. I still have 2 plants that look to be the same genetics but have not showed any sign of sex yet.... I don't know whats up with them. I'm about to pull the one that's in the 5 gallon pot with the females out so they get more light. I like how it looks more sativa though. would be nice to cross the lankier sativa genes with the shorter female genes... Check out the two males I have going in the small pot still. One is that nice sativa that hasn't shown sex and the other is some kinda Freakie with weird leaves. It has balls all over it though. I'm going to mix both males pollen to get as much of a mix in genes as i can for this seed run.

Here's the pics.

Bob J - I put all my confirmed females in that one , 5 gallon pot. The soil mix is just some Super Soil. I think the next run I will mix a little bit of perilite in there so the soil doesnt pack down as much. I will try germing the seeds directly in the bigger pot to avoid any transplant shock too...

what newts are you using,, and how much/often do you water them??... for the JEMS they are very yellow and no where near normal size of growth for that age.

to me it looks like lack of water. Putting a 1/4 -1/2 GPH dripper in there would be excellent... outdoor larger pots require more water then most people think. Completely soak them so water almosts starts to stand on the top of the soil,, or starts pouring out of bottom. I have Super Soil myself, and I mix it with 1/3 perlite, much better results. I also use VF-11 every week, at 2oz per gallon.

ICC - Ive just been using light doses of Miracle Grow. Yeah I know what you mean about soaking them thats what I ussually do. I just checked on them right now and they look a lot more green today. I think they were pale because it was so overcast yesterday. I just remembered I have some Fox Farm Beastie Bloomz. I'm goin to mix some up and water them real good today. They were stunted a little bit from some poor weather we had when I started them. For the most part theyve stayed really short and compact. This is pretty much my first run with this strain or any AF strain so I am learning as I go. I mostly want seeds anyways from this run. When do you guys think I should try to hit them with some pollen? I was thinking in about 2 weeks or so when there is more bud development.

I heard about 3rd week of flowering is the best time to hit them with pollen mate. It's better to pollinate them when theres more pistils for more seeds. They are looking allright mate, you will be impressed on how they fattened up.

The best time to pollenate is actually between week 5-6 just right before they start getting thier frist red hairs. then let them go for at least 3-4 more weeks to ensure maximum ripe seeds.

Oh that is why,, they need MUCH more food, JEMS can take a lot of food. you are starving them. Go buy some Fish Emulsion 5-1-1 and JUICE them they will love you for it. WalMart and get some Alaska Fish, and you will see a difference in just a few days.

Thanks for the info ICC. I hit them with the beasty bloomz yesterday. We had a few thunderstorms come through yesterday. It was a straight down pour and tons of lightning strikes for a few hours. The plants got a good soaking from it. As for the plants in too small of pots those are just males in there. I'm trying to delay they're flowering until the females are ready. So far its working, but I'm thinking about just planting them in the ground. I have a small vegetable garden that i may just put the males in there with some tomatoe plants. Ill update when there's some more progress with the jems. Thanks all who stopped by.

Top Of The Mornin' Governor ... Ha

Time for an update guys. The ladies have responded the the feedings I have been giving them. I've been hitting them with more water than I was before too. They seem to be fattening up a little big more. I removed the one plant in the 5 gallon pot that hadn't shown sex yet. Rather have the females get more light. The males I had in the small pot were planted in my vegetable garden. They have opened up this week. I'm thinking about cutting them down and saving the pollen. I dont know if I should just hit the females with the pollen now or wait another week. There are a few hairs turning orange on the plants but I think if I wait ill be able to get more seeds. Temps have been cooler the last 2 weeks. We were in the low 90s and latley it's been in the mid 70s -80s with light rain. Just thunderstorms nothing significant. Most of the days have been partial clouds. I'm about to start some more seeds in a few days. I think I will just start them in a 3 gallon pot instead of trying to transplant them later. I've already learned a lot about AF's and I think the next batch is going to be better. Heres the pics...

Thanks for stopping by G-ice. The've been perking up slowly...

So what do you guys think? Should I pollinate the ladies now? I'm going to be putting some seeds to soak tonight for the next run. The males I have are spreading their pollen as we speak. I was thinking about just cutting the male and the base of the plant then letting the pollen fall on the females. This was a seed run/ experiment so i knew the yield wouldn't be the best. I think with warmer temps and a better nutrient schedule I should be able to get some bigger plants. I will most likely pollinate them tmrw. Just looking for a little input.

HEY man good work, but lets see if we can make them preform better for you.

for the super small yeild and size.. there is something they dont like in your conditions.

How much light are they getting each day

I suggest using a fish emulsion to start feeding, and some blood and bone meal mixed in to that soil before planting,, also you soil looks very woody and compacted. Find peat based mixed only ,, wood bark soils can get very compacted, also they can acctract more fungus gnats. They dont like compacted soil ,, use some vermiculite and some perlite to loosen that stuff up.. I say a 15/15/70 mix would be great.

The JEMS yield at least 14g out side but have an average of 25-30gs, so you can see how small yours are compaired to thier normal growth pattern.

GO organics man,, no worries about plant burn and better results.

This JEM was grown in 5.5 x 5.5 in sq pot, 1 gallon. Using Fox Farm, Peace of Mind "Fruit and Flower" dry mix organic fertilizer, mixed in the soil before planting, fish emulsion slight flushing 1 time each week. And Superthrive every other watering for the last 4 weeks. And here is the kicker,, under 4 40watt 4ft T12 flouros, 2 where CoolWhite and 2 where Kitchen and Bath to give a perfect ballance of light specturm.

This is day 54, she finished at day 62 with even more color and encrusted resin. Yield was 12g dry,, the one behind her to the left yeilded 20g dry.

I heard KcrazyCure will be doing a JEMS DWC!!! I cant wait. :woohoo:

I think it was a variety of problems. Poor weather when they were started. I started them in small pots, should have started in bigger ones from the get go like mossy said... The soil not having any perilite in it, getting too compacted. Not hitting them with enough nutes and slowing them down... You learn something every time you grow though. I will just start on a clean slate with this next run.

I'm pollinating the girls today. Love is in the air.. haha. The biggest fem is starting to pack on some buds finally. Prolly due to the nutes I've been giving them. I am also putting some seeds to soak overnight. They will be planted tmrw to keep the rotation going. The weather is supposed to be warming up a little bit this week. Should make for some better growth. I was thinking about just pollinating the lower buds but since the plants are so small I'm just going to pollinate the fruck out of them. Get as many seeds this run so I don't have to worry about making them for awhile. I'm sure I will get a male or two in this second batch of seeds I'm germing though.

Alright finally time for an update. I've been a lil busy this last weekend so I finally got some free time now. The ladies are deff growing some seeds now. You can see a few of the seeds popping out of the pistils already. They deff are Prego.. ha. I mostly pollinated the 2 smaller fems and left the biggest to just bud for some smoke. The white pheno is loaded with seeds and the smaller purple pheno has some seeds on here too. I planted a few more sprouts a couple days ago. I think 5 have already popped out of the ground. I may get another run goin in a few more weeks since is the best time of the year for growing.. The Biggest fem has been starting to get some lower branching. Anyways heres a few pics.

Whats Up Guys???? Anyone out there?? :moon:

Ha JK... The ladies that have been pollinated are forming some fat seeds. I think I should get a good 30+ seeds off them. They have deff stopped their bud production to focus on seed making. :chin: Are you supposed to just be able to see the seeds like I am? I've never made seeds before so this is all new to me. It almost looks like the seeds are going to pop out of the bud. The seeds seem to have formed very fast. They almost look mature already. They are still green though. Are the seeds supposed to change color when you know they are mature? I'm assuming the seeds will shrink down when they dry out. Temps have been a little warmer as of late, upper to mid 90s... A few of my seedlings that recently sprouted paid the price already... I didn't mist them and the sun just baked them. :badday: There are still 3 sprouts going strong though. I think I may cut my plants down in another week. When I cut those ladies I'm goin to go ahead and germ a new set in their pot. I just need to protect them from the sun in the early stages. We are coming up on the hottest time of the year in my area.... Good for growing but not good for young seedlings.
