HONDA Generators

Just curious if anyone is running honda quiet series gererators. Im looking at a 3000 watt 56 db unit for 3000$ im guessing its worth every penny but any advice is appreciated.

I am not sure what rpm that generator runs at......but if it run at 3600 you don't want it........you want one that runs at 1800.....do a search there are plenty of threads on this subject

Peace

exactly that u want a diesel gen or natural gas(1800rpm) not a gas (87octaine)/3600rpm

I wouldn't waste your money. That generator is not made to run for long periods of time and it doesn't put out enough power to make enough pot to justify the gas cost. It would be very expensive to run. If your going to use a generator, like stated above it should be 1800 rpm, diesel and much larger. You need to run at least 8 lights to make a generator worth your while so that the fuel price can be paid and still make a profit. That onda generator is great for a trailer or small intermitten use, but left on day in day out it would die in a matter of months. I did alot of research on generators as I am going to do this in the near future. Sorry for the bad news but if you want to go larger with at least 8 to 10 lights let me know and I will let you know what I have found to be the best ones for growing.

Although not the best long term solution, the 3K honda quiet will work continuous duty (12 hours a day, maybe 24 but I haven't tried). I happen to have a couple of the 2K units, and I love them. No joke on the name "quiet"; these things are barely louder than two people talking at full load! I use mine 1-2 weeks a month for 12 hours a day so I don't have to run off metered power all the time. I have an external laundry room connected to the house and I've moved the washer and dryer into storage and now use the area as a home for my generators. My 2K units each run 1- 1000W HPS, 1- 6" inline blower, 1- T5 fixture. They are running at over 75% load and the gas tank won't quite make it to 12 hours without a top-off.

Honda Quiets are good, reliable, quiet generators perfect for our situations with keeping noise & attention down. However, they will not work well as a primary power source as they are not made to power the equipment we use.

it is nice to have some "quiet hondas" for a back up but to augment your power usage with such an "off grid" method is costly like three to seven time s as much as u would have paid for "grid" power, take an objective look at your normal usage of power and divert some more for your grow use ur gensets to cook, do laundry etc.
and i think u will save some money! too!

It's not the total cost of energy that is driving this, it's the stealthing of his power consumption. By using generators like that his energy usage will look more "normal" and thus avoid a red-flag to LEOs trolling utility records.

Don't think that because they (LEO) are supposed to get a warrant before violating your privacy by surveying power consumption that they will. If you rely on LEO to follow the law, then you are as good as dead. They will do anything legal or not and lie to justify it later. And you can't fight that stacked deck.

When your freedom is at stake, what's a couple hundred bucks a year??

I like this stealth mode power consumption. And intend to do the same!!

Do they make any generators that run on ethanol? Or would you have to modify a gas generator?

You'd need a larger jet for ethanol. Carburated engines only.

Most gasoline engines will run on straight still-grade ethanol (96% ethanol, 4% water). Your fuel consumption will be higher since gasoline has more energy per gallon, and cold weather starts will be difficult (ethanol vaporizes at a much higher temp). I think 50 def F (10 deg C) is the cold starting limit for ethanol.

Really? Hotdamn, I'm gonna have to look into this if you can really run a gas engine off it. I know it needs a carburetor, and you gotta drill out the injector so it sprays more ethanol. Maybe have to run some different fuel lines or something, but shouldn't be too hard on a small generator. I thought there was a lot more to it than that though. I appreciate it, man

Just get another jet for your carburetor so you can restore it quickly to gasoline operation, and follow the instructions here <link

Good Luck,

TGT?

TGT?

Hey TGT, I've been wondering about generators myself. I was wanting one that can run like 8 lights. I live in city so noise and exaust are my concerns. Can you run one of these in a garage if you did proper ventilation for it? And would exaust be a problem or could i put a scrubber on that as well? I have done some reseach and they are pricy... but worth it. Anyone else's knowledge is appreciated. Also What generator do you recommend?

Thank you

I'm using a 10k diesel gen, for biofuel testing- one day smells like chicken, another day like donuts
I'm afraid donut smell day, may bring the cops

If you're looking for a quiet generator, focus on the ones that run at 1800 RPM, as they are designed for continuous service. 3600 RPM generators are standby service, and tend not to last as long.

Look at RV generators as US national park rules have resulted in very quiet (and expensive) generator sets. They are designed to run continuously, and you can find propane/natural gas models as well.
