Homemade Vertical POTRACKS 6kw

Damn it. Everytime I think I have everything worked out for my next grow I run into someone like you man! These are like vertical SOGs, such an efficient use of space! Now I have some thinking to do ...

Did you and your friend just make these colliseums up from scratch? Use any plans? How many shelfs and plants per shelf? Sorry for all the questions, I hope you don't mind.

Thanks,

-sg

i raelly like the setup, but i must be an idiot...

i can't figure out how you water without making a total mess of things...

i understand the wand, and you say they tilt, but past that, i am lost.

what do you kill the stink with??

what sort of pucking do you do i seen you said that a couple of pages back im building a stadium but nothing to this affect. Just trying to learn everything while im still building

Going vert is next for me. I love the idea of being able to utilize both my 1ks and saving a shit ton of floorspace. I donate almost 5ft by 9ft of floorspace and its getting to me. I want to build a 6x6 closet and stuff a vert setup in there. If I could do this, I would be in hog heaven.

Seems that you kinda gotta wait for a crop to finish to add plants though.

Swampdank - I dont have any drawings when i have time i will try to draw something up for you guys.

Osecretgardeno - My friend and i never used and plans we just started building them from scratch. There are 7 shelfs with 14 plants in each module.

Sleepy - Yeah water runs on the floor but it is easy to suck up the water with the wetvac. I have a 12" fan with a 150 Canfilter to get rid of the smell.

Barnyard - iam not to sure what you mean by pucking?

high jinks - thanks man.

Swampdank - i have a separate room i use for vegging so i translpant right when i finished the crop ...not much down time.

Peace
Koot.

so im guessing this is a octagon? please if you have time do a simple diy. im dying to redo my room except ill probably use 4 600's per octagon
Do you lollipop the plants before there switched into flowering?
thanks in advance for answering my questions

They look kinda stretchy in the first couple of flicks... but the set up is good. Vertical is the only way to go... i don't think I'll ever do a flat grow again. I'll be posting my second STADIUM grow shortly. New and improved, for the summer heat coming up.
Way to go!

Great octagon grow!! what are your temps and humility like? How close can you let your girls get before burning them? Must get pretty hot in there with no cooltubes, then again you have no reflectors directing heat at your girls. I love these octagon setups!!

Love the setup! Do you rotate the ladies at all so the backs get light as well? I am drawing up plans for my own based on this.... will up for peeps when I'm done

thats a great idea put the system on wheels and run a simple motor that rotates rack every 3-5 minutes for even light distribution could be done easily

Muah-hahahaha! The mad genius in me has an idea to simplify watering.....

requirements:
- at least 18-24" extra height above the top of the racks
- more wood (2x4s, 3/8" ply)
- pond liner or perfect condition black/white poly
- 1/2" flex irrigation line
- 1/4" irrigation tubing
- barb connectors
- drip emitters
- 1/2" thru-hull
- 1/2" cross connectors
- 1/2" Ts
- a ladder

depending on the layout, secure all but one or two of the racks to each other. the ones that aren't attached become your "door" into the grow area or "pod" as I've come to call them.

add a STRONG frame going across the top (I would suggest 2x4's laid vertically | vs horizontally _ ).

build a box measuring 1 metre x 1 metre x 15 cm deep (or 3'x3'x6") and GLUE down the pond liner/poly on the inside, staple on OUTSIDE ONLY; this now becomes a res.

the box/res goes on TOP of the octagon on the frame and stays there. These measurements will give you a res capacity 120 litres or 31.7 US gallons - allowing for a 3 cm or 1 inch "buffer" between the water level and the top edge.

a thru-hull is installed in the bottom of the res and connected to the 1/2" irrigation tubing which using cross connectors and T's goes out to have one line run down the side of each rack.

coming out a couple of inches above the highest point of the pot you are using, use barb connectors to run 1/4" lines to each pot ending with a drip emitter, say 1gal/hr?

come watering time, mix up your required amount of water and nutes, dump it into the res, and gravity takes care of the rest! Since the water is being applied slowly, it has plenty of time to soak into your grow medium without overflowing. And if you calculate right (I find that about a 1/4 to 1/3 gallon water in a 3 gallon pot is good) there shouldn't be any run-off.

Oh yeah, one could always add some shut-off valves, perhaps build one big res for two units side by side, etc. And I'm also thinking that with the lights in cooltubes connected to in/out ducting, this will help with heat control, ventilation, retention of co2, and keeping the res up there at the top cool. I've never met a plant that likes hot water :)

This does require more materials, some extra planning, and of course the added height and strength required of the racks, but considering how much time could be saved EVERY TIME you need to water.... a little extra at the beginning is well worth it to me.

Of course, one could always shop the hydro stores for large, low-profile res's and save the trouble of building one for each "pod". But where's the fun in that?
