I dunno if this has been covered yet, but has anyone checked out TI's newest album.... I love TI, his first 2 cd's were amazing, now that he's all famous i was a bit suprised with paper trails, there are quite a few decent songs and 2 others besides "whatever you like" that I think will make the radio....

glad your enjoying T.I's music. I haven't really listened to much of his tunes because he fits that mainstream category. Underground hiphop seems to be were you find the hot shit. But T.I. is probably one of the best mainstream artists decent rhymes decent beats but there isn't anything unique about him.

Id like to turn you onto some hot shit. Check out Masta ace if you havent already, should blow your mind

I'm an old white guy who is mostly into old school rock (see my avatar?). Every once in a while i get a taste for some rap...keeps me youthful. A few years back I really got into and tried out a bunch of mainline rappers, downloading like a madman, and listening to all I could handle. I settled on Wu Tang's 36 Chambers and Dre's Chronic albums as my fav's. Those are some damn fine albums.

So, tonight I'm doing some surfing and found some folks talking rap, and I thought I'd do some more research, find some groups I hadn't heard before. Damn! I just discovered OutKast...some fine shit! "Ain't no thing but a chicken wing...weez havin' a smoke out in the dungeon with the mary jane....." :muahaha: I love that shit! This is some fine rap...a new favorite....(1994) Outkast - Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik....And I'm not surprised...so much fine shit came out in 1994 from music to movies....a real pivotal year.

Also found The Cool Kids - Bake Sale, a new album from a new group. Their track '88' is some fine shit. Check it out.

Oh, man, the tune Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik just kicked in...aw shit...that is so fine...take care, y'all.....

has Qtips new joint been mentioned yet? I heard an interview on NPR the other day and my jaw dropped! It sounds like that Qtip I grew up listening to, not that 'breath and stop' ass shit. Need to cop that. And he says that there are like 2-3 albums that are just floating arund the industry and no one will release them. We may never hear them... Sad.

I saw this group called Sol Illquists of Sound. DAMN! look for them too.

I am 37 years old. I grew up b/t LA and Oakland.
High school-c/o 89. BA-94.
I recall being in boot camp, Xmas, 95. I remember us sitting around, talking about music.

"For me, its about relating. I FEEL hip hop. I am hip hop. Just like everyone who loves the genre is. Music is the soundtrack to my life, and there are so many memorable hip hop songs that I can recall vividly. I know it is the same for folks from the bible belt, or those folks in the dust bowl and country music. Hey, whatever floats your boat-sail it. I will never say one's experience is worth more than others, or better than others. Music is so powerful for people, just appreciate the force for what it is, and just find a spot that is comfy for you..and enjoy the ride! Cannibals even have cute babies, and I was lucky enough to be old enough to appreciate the golden era. Way back when we used to get winks by the 6th grade girls if we knew RAPPERS DELIGHT-the long version-the regular version was all on the radio but if you knew the 13 minute version you were fingerbangin all day! The same best friend I have now-20 somethin years ago-we would walk home from elementary school working on THE MESSAGE and other GMF hits. "Don't push me..." But some others may be able to relate to hearing "6 in the mornin',Reckless, or Doggin the wax " on KDAY in the hot summertime while waiting in line at TOMMY's, after Egyptian lover and Uncle Jam's Army (just played at the Sports Arena) Not even vince price in his best days and shit.I bought Doug E Fresh's NOTHING LP at the Slauson swap meet and ran home to play that thing out. The bridge was over before I got to visit it.I wish i coulda seen Kool Herc, Afrika and the Soulsonic Force, Kraftwerk,Kaz, FF plus 1, Trecherous Three, Jazzy Jeff, Jonzun Crew..to name a few. If I mention LA DREAM TEAM to someone, they may mention Johnnie Cohran in response. Ha. I remember when only Crips used to Crip Walk. Some of our friends got to break dance at the 84 summer olympics, and that was doing somethin! I cut my teeth in the Rollin 30's and although I love my west coast, LA nostalgic tunes- I will never glamourize the violence that happened while I was in and out of Exposition and Normandy-and it kills me when so many folks do. I will play some old CMW, or some DJ Quik, ATL,Snoop, WC, Mix Master Spade, Toddy Tee, and others when i am feelin nostalgiac..Some may be able to understand what Oakland was like when BORN TO MACK first hit the streets. BIIIIIIIIIIIIIITCH what is you smokin? exactly. How many of us were tired of Short and Mc Hammer passing out tapes at Merritt College dances and other spots in the Bay? We used to do bunny hops and warp the rims on our bikes to CUT SO FRESH,and fix our chain to THE SYMPHONY. If Dre is a god-then Marley Marl is a Titan. How many of you guys were STRICTLY BUSINESS in 87? I think I bought the tape twice cause I played it so much..continuously. PAID IN FULL. PAID IN FULL. I said it twice cause it was that important to Hip Hop. The original big man from Brooklyn-Chubb Rock. Pay respect. KOOL G RAP! Grand Puba! At least Special Ed had it made. PE! Remember watching Wild Style and immediately downing Beat Street and Breaking for being as "real?" HOW MANY ROXANNE ALBUMS WERE THERE? Come on..break it down. Roxanne Roxanne, Roxanne's revenge, Roxanne's parents, Roxanne's a man. The last is my favorite. 187 proof!!! Is SPice 1 alive?MC Breed just passed away. How many folks recall the anthem of 91-AINT NO FUTURE IN YO FRONTIN? We used to stomp the yard HARD in combat boots and Black and Old Gold whenever "to the beat y'all " would come on..but can I expect someone else to get that? It don't matter! We use to play THE CHRONIC during college intramural warmups when the album first came out. How could you not get juiced to that album?I STILL hit the weight pile hard to it. "I get wrecked" always gets me goin at the gym. How could you not love THE LOW END THEORY? To be in college and hear "the infamous date rape" was timeless.
Some heads I know say the golden era was 86-93. needless to say my Ipod has that playlist in heavy rotation..still.
I know I am old, and hip hop is that kid in your family that had all the potential, but took one or two wrong turns and now their lives are cliches at get togethers and spoken in sullen rememberance..

"Oh, we love cousin hip hop, but once she made enough money to move out the house- she lost her damn mind..."

I'm addicted to hip hop I have to hear some tight tracks everyday or I really don't feel right. I think to feel hip hop you have to understand the story they are telling. You kinda have to know how to listen rap.

Seems like people that aren't into rap aren't getting the rhymes

Took me awhile to develop an ear for rap music learning rhymes, now I can hear every word in a song.

Well a bob is more of an Up and Down, a nod is more of a "yes," and a bop to me is what kids do when they run with their heads bopping around.

Now when enjoying the wonderful music known as HipHop I think that Nodding is the most widely used head movement. Even Saul Williams spoke about it. It's like we're saying, "yes, we like this." :headbange : yes.

I don't think its a bop, bob or a nod because they don't exist.

Nothing in this universe really has a name. We give everything a name but they don't exist within the concept of the name.

When I listen to hiphop I don't say Ok hot beat time to nod head, it happens without me having to think about it just like your heart beats and you breath without thinking about it.

Try and figure out what is happening when you nod your head to some hiphop because your not really noddin boppin bobbin. The universe is dancing is what's happening

i mean yeah 94...95...was the shit....but still....theres ALOT of talent out there...you just gotta turn off your tv.....
