Doesn't need a ballast(built in)..but it does need a mogul base socket (about a 1.5" socket..like used with most HID lighting)..which is larger than a standard residential socket..
Plenty of compact fluoro's that will fit at any hardware store..this one is also a Day bulb; 4100K..Cool is fine for the babes..but day is good too..

are there any that plug into a standard indesent socket? or with that would I just need to get a mogul plug and hook it up to cord to plug in the wall? something like this?

http://www.1000bulbs.com/product.php?product=995 because if I just need to hook that up to a cord it would seem worth it. Also can I do multiple of those off of one cord im thinking like 2 or 3.

im thinking maybe this would just be a better buy if it goes in a normal socket http://www.1000bulbs.com/product.php?product=31292

a 400w hps, the more and more im thinking about it Im thinking about doing a 400w HPS in one of the mills pride set ups and http://www.gssdist.com/BeginnersSpecial.htm that thing, the 6x3inch net pot set up, I know its an aerospring clone but the price is great and it comes with nutes, I have never grown in anything but soil and have always wanted to do some type of hydro/aero setup. I would use one of those cheap 50dollor modded stanly fans for ventalation. I would only use the 4 in the corner though, i think if I used all 6 of them they would compete and end up hindering growth from crowding. If I could find a good easy to follow walk threw of how to build one I would be interested in that, escpecially since I have like 12 of those rubbermaid things of different sizes. I'm pretty broke right now but can spend like 100-300bills on it not including seeds, I just ordered rez's Quick Mist Diesel. Plus a main reason for me to want hydro is it is supposed to finish a lot faster. It would be nice to have a harvest before the end of Jan.

If someon could post a how to build one of those things I think I would do that, so i can do 4 sites with 4inch net pots or 5inch ones if they would fit.

that's what you need for that light above..and it runs on 120v..so just add a cord and go..
but I'm with kokua..I would just go to the hardware store and use clamp light fixtures and standard CFL's .. but either way you got light..

You can put together a 5 gallon bucket DWC for less than $30 per unit. A harvest before the end of january is pushin it...

- air pump
- air tube
- couple of air stones
- 5 gallon buckets with lids
- clay media
- net cups

Ready...Set...Grow TREES!! The basic setup is very easy and with all the parts layin out in front of you, you should be able to put it together properly...if not, get another hobby :0) Kidding of course... These systems run very smooth and with minor modifications they run even smoother.

1- 90 degree elbow

1- 1/2 " grommet

1- 5 gallon bucket

All you have to do is drill a hole about and inch from the bottom of the bucket, insert the grommet, then the elbow, then some blue tubing cut to length. The water level inside the unit will be the same in the tubing so you have just created the world easiest and yet the worlds fanciest water level indicators.

where can i get info on the feeding for it, like how often and so on, I know ill need some kind of ppm and PH tester. But other then that what nutes should I get. I think when I put it all togethor the cost ends up beeing more then the 100 for the complete kit with the nutes from that link i posted last. I like your water level indicator idea, shouldnt i make some kind of sleeve for it so algee doesnt form. what amount of air does the air pump need to move. I remember also tiny air bubbles are best, so which stone would have the smallest bubbles. Or how can I tell which ones have the smallest bubbles.

man you haven't even gotten your seeds yet, and you are already sweating the small stuff. Step back, smoke a phatty, and relax.... :joint:

The way this DeepWaterCulture bucket system works is easy, you put the airstone in the bottom of the bucket, you connect the airstone to the pump with air tubing, then you plug the airpump into the wall. Thats it, no timers involved! Buy whatever size pump you want, remember you can't have too much oxygen. Go to the store and look at all the pumps, pick the one you like, and then buy the next size up. :) You could put one airstone per bucket, you could put 10...its up to you. And don't worry about the quality of the airstone. The difference in performance from the el-cheapo's to the really really expensive ones is minimal. Remember, there is not right way or wrong way to do this...Good luck.

also you might even want to do bio buckets if your planning a multiple plant grow... cehck out the hydro forums ... and visit BigToke's thread.. pretty helpful. its a lot easier to maintain than single dwc buckets...when considering growing many plants. Probably a lot cheaper too because thhen you wont need any airstones... but thats all in the thread...give it a look.

While you're at it, get a BLACK bucket if you can. If you have a local hydro shop, they should carry them along with net pots built into lids. This will save you a lot of headaches (and money), having to spraypaint or duct tape or otherwise light-proofing your bucket.

I spent close to $15/bucket (total; bucket, spraypaint, Mylar, more spraypaint...) trying to get it light-proofed until I found the black buckets! Then I spent a lot of time trying to cut holes in the $1.97 Home Depot lids, and mounting the $1.50 net pots using roughly $0.75 in nuts and bolts, and also light-proofing the rest of the lid... until I found the $2.00 black lid with net pot built in! :wallbash:

More air is better, so don't be afraid to oversize! And my opinion on airstones (there are many) is that the cheap sand versions will work just fine. You will likely need to replace them every cycle, as they don't last. And don't forget to read up on res. temperatures and how important it is, especially in DWC, to keep it below 70F!

I'm also with kokua on the clamp lights (called "clamp lights" at Home Depot, and "clamp lamps" at Target) and cheap CFLs. Just bought some myself -- 5.5" diameter for $5.97 each -- yesterday at Home Depot, for my first from-seed grow. Clones are so much easier and simpler! Anyways right now Rite-Aid is running a promo, at least in CA or PG&E areas, for a 4-pack of 18w or 23w CFLs for $1.99! Only available in soft white, though. Home Depot has a huge range and variety of CFLs available, and I'm sure Lowes does too.

As with just about everything else in my life, I've learned it all the hard way! :wallbash:
