Help me expand!

thanks for the compliments... I am getting lazy again though... Ever since I built it, I have been content enough and haven't worked on it anymore... plus I can only work inside of it from 8 P.M to 8 A.M so it is not that conveinent either...

I need to build an intake like KNOTS reccomended and seal up the tiny light leaks coming out... is it easier to seal them off from the inside or outside? I figured do it on the inside to get some of the reflectiveness from the tape... but at this point idk how much more light I can reflect? would it work better to seal it up from the outside?

Ok guess I can start this thread up again! Lol so my 150w HPS in the temp cab died so I decided it is time to upgrade! I am still going to order a 150w bulb just to see if that's all it was... they are only $20...

But it is time to begin planning and ordering for the upgrade... I have started some other threads that have talked about this but after all this is my expanding thread! And a lot of my buddies have been through this thread...

So this is the Equipment list as of right now...

1000w Quantum Ballast
1000w Eye Hortilux Hps bulb
340 CFM 6" Pansonic Whisperline
6"x16" Phresh Filter


Lol don't know much more then that... I am going vert so no need for reflector... I will be using this cordset to connect my bulb to my ballast and hang it as well...

the plan for now is to put all the new equipment in my current cab and dial it all down... the quantum can be dimmed down to 400w I believe... I just need to find a compatible speed controller for the whisperline... does anyone know what speed controllers are compatible with the panasonic whisperline fans?

I can't think of anything else right now...

why the whisperline? is stealth a big concern for your new build? what are the dimension s of your area that the 1000 will be going in?

yeah same size cab for now.. I will be building a bigger one eventually... the whisperline is so I don't have to buy a duct muffler... ends up being cheaper then a vortex with a duct muffler...

I think what I've read about dimables is that when you dial down the wattage, you use the build that corresponds with the desired wattage. ie; if you set the wattage at 600 you should use a600wt bulb. I could be wrong though, I only have experience with magnetic ballast. at the prices I am seeing I may have to try e-ballasts for my next grow. I've heard nothing but good things about the quantums.

with the increase wattage you may just want to let the fan go full speed.

I think that is how Galaxy's work but with the quantum's I believe what ever the ballast is rated at (1000w) you put in a 1000w bulb and dim it down to whatever setting you want...

EDIT: i agree fan full speed might be necessary with extra wattage but I will be exhanging air in the room 17 times a minute! lol

Harbor Freight plug in "router" speed controllers was what I ran with the vortex`s and did fine for many yrs without a hitch......

Don`t have a clue bout the whisperlines , but always remember look at the warranty on the panasonioc unit cuz my vortex`s were limited lifetime replacement although not 1 ever fucked up ...ever...anyways...

so I'm thinking how much over kill is the the 1k dialed down going to be in my tiny 5 sq ft by 4ft high setup? the plants will be extremely close to my bulb and I won't have room for many plants... I ordered a replacement bulb for my 150w HPS and I'm gonna try to remote ballast it and hang it vert in my setup... that will be better suited for the environment...

I am questioning the full upgrade... mostly because I am having trouble finding where to order from and how... I have no credit card so I rely on pre paid visa gift cards to order things... works great on amazon... use my buddies account and ship to my other buddies house... works great.. completely anonymous... but idk if PLH will accept pre-paid Visa's and it's hard to get em in amounts over $100...

prepaid visas work as well as regular visa. you should have no problem there. I think that if you can separate the bulb and ballast it would better suit your present cab. I have the same light from the week when my wife thought she would try to grow a plant, it's pretty solid, but I think it's doable.

I will deff be mounting the ballast outside of the grow area regardless BUT my dimensions are something like this... 28.5"x25.5" and around 4 ft of height...

A bulb placed in the middle will give 14.25"x12.75" of space around the bulb.... the plants need to be ATLEAST 6" away from the bulb correct? that leaves me with 8.25"x6.75" of space for plants... I won't yield shit if they can't stretch...
