The door idea I had mentioned would work very well,as would a lot of other ways.

Just make the door the same size as the opening.Then make one the same size as the outside dimension's.Then screw the two together and put the insulation on before you attach the door.This way you got the light leaks covered.You can also put on some weather stripping.The hinge side will be fine since it's at the end of the box.(light leaks)

yeah for vent covers you want them to make light go opposite way of other vent. so top vent would send light up and bottom would send light down. make sure you dont put reflective side inside wall.

for door since its temporary room velcro would be easy to use. so if your opening for door is 12''x12'' you would make a door 2-3 inches bigger 15 x15 and use the velcro to seal door. Another idea is to picture frame the inside of the doorway like mentioned but since your using insulation board and its a temporary room velcro would work but for your CMH room id go picture framing route.

what do you mean the hinge side will be fine from light leaks though? any end of the box with light leaks is a bad thing...

yeah that's what I thought, lol and reflective side on the inside would be so stupid, it's something I would though, no even thinking about it...

I like the velcro idea a bit better, for the reasons you said... will be easier since it is permanent...

is the picture frame the same idea as Mr. Fastcat mentioned... I like that idea, i feel it would do better for preventing light leaks, but how do you secure the door in place with that idea? magnets maybe? I think i'll go with the velcro on this first build..

Any specfic velcro I should be looking for, any places with good deals?

Id use strips of plywood. You could use thin weatherstip to seal if you have light leaks. To attach door use hinges and slide locks. This idea will not work with insulation board you will have to use wood, more for your CMH box you are planning.

Hey what's up guys! Finally an update! I bought the lumber, foil tape, velcro, and a 2x25' roll of reflectix today... I framed it out, and realized I didn't think about the floor or the top (ceiling) so we kind of just left it at that for now... I thought the reflectix was a much better deal then the insulation boards and it was less suspicious looking bringing into the house...

Try to get pics up of the frame tomorrow...

I don't even know what the dimensions are anymore because we just started putting it together not really thinking about the dimensions I wanted originally....

It's roughly 2x2 though, so I should be able to use the 2ft Reflectix roll that I bought... Was so surprised to see it at Lowes!

Still not sure about floor and ceiling... I like your pegboard idea but I don't like light leaks... Ceiling was originally going to be a sheet of plywood... Also I don't know how the reflectix will seal up in some spots because of the way we built the frame...

Any input guys?

This is your temporary room right? This is not room you plan on putting CMH in right? If it is temp room i would just run another board centered in the ceiling and floor to carry load and put cheap luan down. Id cover floor with rubber.

Yes sir, temp replacement room... that was original plan, another board through the middle in the ceiling... hang light from there... what is "luan" ? sorry.... I think I'd rather put a sheet of plywood on top so I can cut a hole for my bathroom exhaust fan... Idk how I would mount it if I just had the single board going through the middle to hold the light...

my bro works with wood so he can prob hook me up with a pieace or two of plywood... shouldn't have to go back to lowes unless it's for something specific...

by the way I hate lowes, but they got a deal on a 12in Dewalt Compound Miter saw right now! the 12 in is the same price as the 10 in. At Homedepot the same saw is $80 more!

i prefer lowes stores around here there much bigger but i thought you used HD. No OSB and luan are totally different. Luan is what is used under tile floors. OSB is what is used on most modern day houses for walls and roofs. Id just go with the free plywood from your bro.

Id put floor vent in floor then on opposite side cut out your floor board out about 12inches. So under floor will act as vent and block light, similar to wall idea but now in floor. Once you lay your plywood on top it will be strong.

No no not your houses floor,lol...your going to lay your plywood down on top of your framing. cut hole in plywood floor and put vent in. Now on your cabs floor framing on the opposite side under your cabs floor cut out 12'' of your 2x2 or 2x3. so fresh air will go under box and into vent.

lol ok makes sense now, You think that will be 100% light proof? and will it take any strength out of the frame?

I was thinking just installing the vent in plywood floor like you said amd just letting air draw through the gaps in between the house floor and framing.

this would be more light tight, but less air flow...
