help me choose a digital camera..

Hey good choice. The G7 has a few more megapixels than the S3 and a few more options....one I like being the hotfoot. However, it will only focus at 0.4" for macros. The thing that I love about the S3 is it will effectively focus to 0.0" from the lens.

Either way, this is one comparison I would look VERY closely at before jumping at either. The S3 is a lot less money.....what a trade off. I decided on the S3 for the super macro because that is what I was after. However, the G7 also offers more overall as a good camera body with the hotfoot and lens adaptability, where the S3 is limited...budget also kept me grounded to the S3, lol!

I'm in the same boat(have been for the past yr). I'm leaning heavily toward the Canon A620. I almost won one on ebay for like $140 last week....Anybody else have the same cam?

Hello all.

I am also looking at a new digital camera.

Here is the camera I have been looking at, but I can't find the info for how close the focus goes in macro setting.

Will someone please take a look at the camera and let me know how close it can focus for macros.

Digital Rebel XTi

It seems like a bad ass camera all around though, and one that I can learn with for quite some time.

Thanks for any help.

Peace

not sure about the macro on teh rebel Xti but that's also one of the most popular SlRs, thing is it's pretty expensive especially if you want to go crazy and get additional lenses for it.

I'm not an expert on SLRs so I'd do some research on the web.

yeah the G7 is a good choice, will definately take nice pictures and has an SLR feel to it with the manual features if you like to have more manual controls.

I'd personally go for the S3IS, I like the convenience fo a point and shoot camera.

actually I'd probably go for the is850, I like a more compact camera I can carry around everywhere and it's good enough for me as I won't be taking professional pictures.

Oh yeah....I've taken about 2500+ shots already with my S3. You'll be learning endlessly from this point on. Those manuals will be your best friend and will require reading over and over again. I do like how you get a basic manual and an advanced one. That really helps the learning curve.

Experimentation is the key. Try different lighting, compositions, and thousands of different settings like ISO, aperture, exposure, shutter speed, light metering, white balance......ahhhh fun!

I would just get an iPhone or other phone with an 8mp camera....but that's like 2 years into your future, it hasn't been invented yet

the thread is old, but figured id use it instead of creating a new one..

i have 5 babies in flower atm,

2 x Blackberry auto
1 x Easy bud
1 x Quick one
1 x last years seed i lost track of what is actually was

they are doing great, and have a few weeks left to finish up, and am looking to make some crispy bud shots

One problem however:

I don't own, or have i ever owned, a digital camera
I recently upgraded my old phone to one with a 0.5 MP camera, so that wont do either
the photo's i take with my girls phone are semi decent if i'm lucky, but i think its time to get myself a decent, but not to costly camera

I also have an Orange bud scrogging away under some CFL's

There are some weird growth's on the plant id love to show and ask about. but as you see in the picture, its pretty blurry and i cant get closer to show the weird stuff

Hope someone can help me out
