heath inspired test prototype (aero)

On a side note.. does anyone think filling the buckets maybe half or a quarter full of hydroton rocks might be beneficial? My roots are growin into the raingutters (i knew they would). Thought the rocks might help contain them inside the buckets better?

Do yas think filling the buckets half full with hydroton rocks would kindof defeat the purpose of aero? I lost a couple plants beacuse the sprayers moved a little. The spray wasnt hitting the top of the root ball but just a portion of the roots at the bottom of the bucket. The roots at the base of the stem were dried out.

Im thinking the hydroton rocks would be insurance as well as rooting in rockwoll. But would i need to reconfigure the spray times?

Thanks .

Its hard to say whats goin on exactly.. I keep running senarios in my mind. All the elements are there to grow. Water spraying the roots 1 on 5 off, same temps as my normal fence posts (which are doing great in the same room) so that eliminates the environment as a potential problem.

I dont think its the temps higher on the wall beacuse a couple of the bottom row plants were the first ones that started wilting and died. There is the possibility of root rot, or bacterial wilt. These plants never did have very good looking roots going in. But like i said , every other time ive put smaller roots in my regular aero horizontal units they would explode the first 2-3 weeks in flower. These never did do that?

I also thought maybe the plants that died were the ones i pulled out of there holes (during lights on) to move to a different spot? Maybe that 1k light just burnt the shit out of um?? i did that quite a few times!!

Anyhow i will continue on.. I knew there was gonna be some hiccups.

any forum members feel free to chime in on what you think may have happend.

I put a clone in 4 days ago to see if it would die in the same bucket where a previous plant died and its doing fine???

what kind of nutrients are you running

from the look of those, i think something is going on with the roots systems

this could happen when you add too much additives + swinging temps

could results in this,

whats your temp for the rez?
ph?
ppm?
ec?

you could put them in the netted basket fill with hydrotons and place them in those buckets, that way you containt the roots and could possible change whats happening with those beauty you got there..

cheers

I use botanicare, cal mag, liquid karma, hygrozyme, silica blast, great white and also hydroplex.

PPMs at 900.

The ph in this test wall has been all over the place!! The first 3 weeks it seemed fine, rising a little from 5.8 up to 6. Then at about week 4 it started dropping like a rock every day. went from 5.8 to 4.9 over 12 hours every day. I flush with plain water in between res changes and it stabilizes for a few days then starts to drop again.

I was running co2 and 85 in the room when i first started noticing some wilt.(a week ago) the res temps lights on was 73-75 ouch! Since then i turned off the co2 and set the ac temps to 78. now res is down to 68-70 but the damage seemed like it was already done.

My regular horizontal units in the same room with the same mix are doing fine??

looks like root rot to me. if you don't want it to spread, i'd say drop the liquid karma out of your mix and use a bit of hydrogen peroxide to give extra oxygen to the roots and minimize any damage of any rot that is already there.

i think i know your problem here,

the combination of high heat ( when you run c02 ) that shot up the temp of your rez, and 6 additives i could count plus the swinging ph you stated did the problem... from what i can see.

now you even said the ph start to swing, that pretty much tell me locks out are happing in your rez plus the additional of high temp boosting co2, thats when the plants use the most nutrients and they took up the bad stuffs.

you're saying your flat garden is fine ? both garden is getting the same treatment and the only diff is the light position?

now the one in you pics, i think they're pretty much done, a bit late in flowering to be save, root rot caused the issue here, it only needs to happen in a short period of time, you know hydro is not very forgiving lol, so i say next run you do the same thing but give them a bit less additives, thats where your problems at... base on my own opinions tho..

hope it helps ya

cheers

Yea the flat garden is running fine, but ive always had root problems towards the end of of the 8-9 week cycle. Its a design flaw thats been bugging me since i first started growing with the system. Ya know the fence posts aero/nft? When the roots get big the water dams up and creates all kind of problems. Yet ive always cranked out nice buds and nice harvests with it. Those issues are some of the reasons why i built the wall, so the water would flow freely. And vert to boot.

Yes this run with the wall is a bust, I will see if the remaining 5-6 plants can make it to the end.

The next run i think i will run canna A an B. And supplement with h202. no other additives and see how that goes.

Also.. i was thinking of maybe putting hydroton rocks maybe a 1/4 to 1/2 full inside the 2 gallon buckets? This might contain the roots inside the buckets, instead of the roots following the water down into the raingutters??

Do you think that would benefit? It means the roots would be hanging in air first from the netpot then growing down into the rocks. But then would i need to adjust spray times?

Cayt,,its true the clubs are flooded with that. But the club i deal with exclusively and my script/patients like anything that comes out good. There is ailments that any strain can help with.

Mega... are you saying that stretchy plants will yeild better in my setup? I always assumed that short bushy (but trimmed)indica dominant strains would be better?

Well everything I learned came from DHF and Bobblehead.....and hanging around growers for 20 years.."......I prefer hybrids and diesels for vertical grows for the stretch.....pure indices will work but to be honest.......I am completely focused on max GPW........so I stick to those although I am also searching for the perfect mono-crop ATM.

Take care

I think red is right, too much different food. I would ditch the lk and hygro. are the stems mushy?

Gearin up for round 2

Gearin up for round 2

Ok, due to pilot error i fried most of the passengers on the first flight.

Im moving forward and hope to get things more dialed on the 2nd flight.

I finished 2 more walls. So on this next attemp there will be 3 walls of vert in one corner of the flower room and 2 trusty flat gardens.

10 day veg this time... give or take depending.

I upgraded 2 of the pumps from the 1200gph to the 1584gph. I dont believe it will make a huge difference but what the hell.

Im going to fill the bottom of each bucket with hydroton rocks (for roots to grow into and limit them growing into raingutter.)

Im going to be running Canna aquas at no higher then 1000ppm.
Supplementing with h202 every 3-4 days.

No more co2 for now. 24/7 venting and AC. 78deg. 45% humidity.

Strains

J1
Blue dream
g13
C99
hindu kush
and 5 Sensi seeds NL of which i will need to cull the males.

Flat gardens will be all blackberry kush.

Im still unsure of my spray timing with the hydroton rocks, normally i do 1 on 5 off. But with the rocks in there im open for suggestions?

Im gonna get this licked!! one way or another! That last run was the first time ive ever lost a plant, Im still very new to growing (2 years) so i have alot to learn.

Thanks all and happy growin!

Good luck with round two bro. I was disappointed with my last yield but that could have been caused by pH out of wack and cold temps.

Are you using net pots with the hyrdoton and having the sprayers underneath?

Unless you have buds in that room, you should get the humidity up to 70% for explosive stretch the first 4 weeks... then drop it to 45% till chop. Good luck on this run buddy. I don't know much about aeroponics... Coco/perlite is pretty bulletproof once dialed.

Thanks esteboatan. Most of the clones for this run came in rapid rooters. I put them into net pots and into the cloners. The roots on all of them are looking nice! So in the wall units the netpots are hangin in the topside of the bucket and a couple handfulls of hydroton on the bottom of the buckets. The sprayers are hangin down and spray the bottom half of the net. Hope it works out this time.

Thanks for the tip bobblehead. This is whole new run. Ive been doing perpetual up till now. ( I decided to finish up all harvests in the room and start fresh)

I was planning on loading up all flower systems and running at least a week to 10 days on 18-6 to veg them a little and build up some girth. Should i still crank up the humidity running 18-6 veg?

yeah buddy, keep the humidity up to 70% in veg and stretch, and then cut it to 45% the last 4-5 weeks of flower to prevent budrot, PM, etc... Additionally, try to keep your lights on temps within 10 degrees of your lights off temps. This could mean heating your growing during lights off... The idea is to keep the temperature as close to the same as possible, to encourage stretch.

This has all been taught to me recently... I'm just trying to spread the knowledge. You already have such a great setup, you just need to get it dialed in... Good luck solving your issues with those aero-racks...
