Has Someone found my plants? 1001 ways to know...

This is alot of work but it works well with most things a 1inch layer of sand then 1/8" think twigs yes it will take alot but put them in parallel lines 1-2inches apart preferably 6-10ft thick i put mine in a octagon around the plants but i created a small walking area designated by rocks then collected my fallen leaves from last fall and threw them in a thin layer all over the area working it untill it looks natural the effect is if animals walk through there i.e deer they will break maybe 2 lines together in a staggered way normally following the back foot ontop of the front hoof print humans break roughly 6-8 and with a much larger area smaller animals such as racoons foxes anything like that will not break the stick but just depress them into the sand it is alot of work but if you have the time and willing to put forth the effort you can monitor it down to the species.... it's too bad that i take all this precaution because last time my crop was found it was just some drifter who got tired of hitch hiking and set up camp if you also have the time and want to make your self an area in 2years time collect 10-20lbs of pine needles buery them in a thin layer about 6-10inches under the soil around all plants anywhere you want to make a clearing it will kill off the vegetative growth and also the trees you can fell the trees in a bow and bam you have what appears to be a natural clearing but completely controlled >:D
awsome idea with the money clip too i used half of a 5$ bill that went through the wash glued it to a rock and set it ontop of another rock so that it looked like it just caught there and like you said no one will give up the chanse for free money it stops the animals from taking it it also stop the leaves and stuff from accidentally covering up the knife and gets rid of the crazy expenses of anything else..... im sure all of you have half a bill laying around somewhere. if not just print of a pic of a bill (bothsides) and do the same trick

I used the leaving money trick this year to determine if a spot got any traffic over the fall/winter/early spring, it was still there :) But yeah, I wouldn't do that for reasons previously mentioned,

Short Ryder: The sand & twig thing above sounds very intriguing, you would make my day if I could see a pic of exactly how you do it to avoid me having to experiment :)

I found someones grow this year on accident while looking for a spot of my own to use. You want to know how I found it? The morons used one trail and trampled the shit out of it. Smashed sticks and plant limbs on the ground and surrounding foliage all the way up to their plot. I also followed the fork in the trail to their piles of water jugs spray painted camoflague style. They made it so easy to find that I am going to leave them a note to not be so obvious, read ICMAG.com and these things won't happen, and thank you for the free cuttings. :) I will not steal their plants, but I feel that a cutting or two won't hurt anyone. Unfortunately for them there is a lot of worm(caterpillar larvae?) damge. These are the worms that are white and then turn orange and reak havoc on buds.

Do those game cameras cost a lot? Where do you get them"?

I have a fairly good spot for my little grow. Not the sunniest spot in town, but hard to get to without me knowing. Of course I do have to sleep at times. This time of year I find I am sleeping less. And still so many weeks to go.

I've got 3 of these in 3, 4 and 5 megapixel versions.

Wildview Stealthcam.

All from ebay, didn't pay more than $45 for any one.

A couple of tips;

1)Don't rely on the internal memory, buy a 1/2 or 1 gig sd card for $5-$10.
If the batteries die or get pulled, the internal mem gets wiped, the card stays intact.

2)Mount them so they view the trail head-on or at a slight angle and then camo with branches, etc.

3)Don't angle it into the sun, mount it high and angle down.

The format it uses on the card is DCIM.

DCIM is pretty universal and is viewable on a number of handheld devices.

I take an old Palm TX with me and I can view the cards at each cam, wipe and re-insert.

I've found batteries last about 6 weeks running 24/7.

2.$$$$$. I have a stainless money clip and i put a 5 and a couple of ones in it and drop it on my path just before you reach the plants. If its gone, you don't have a deer problem.

Best tip ever:yes:

My last outdoor grow only had one path to it, i poured a sack of gravel in the middle of the path making it look pretty natural close to the grow so id know if anyone had been there or was waiting for me, if not, id then go back and get the water and the ph meter and nutrients, if they catched me without anything on me they could never convict me

Best tip ever. I want those! I will prolly prolong their working battery lifetime and add some sort of wireless adapter to them so I can scan possible photos without even visiting the place. Definitely a project for next year.

For longer life you can use the adaptor with a small outboard battery about the size from a motorcyle/atv.

They also sell an accessory solar panel to keep it charged indefinitely.

Number 1 way to know is if all of your plants are gone ;)

I like trying to use the natural plants layed/encouraged to grow across your access path. Easy to see if they are trampled or broken.

Blackberries are good cover. They stay nice and green all the way through October here, so your plants can blend in.

Well.. If you get back to your plot and there is a large steaming hole where you had your land mine buried, Id say it is pretty safe to assume that your plot has been visited / compromised..

Though on a serious note, Panama Red is spot on IME. Cameras are def a decent reactive tool. Solar panels and a larger memory chip are great additions.

About ten years ago I was scouting a new swamp site and found a five dollar bill on the edge of the swamp. I picked it up and thought, lucky me, some hunter dropped a bill. It wasn't till years later when I read the tip on OverGrow that I realized I probably scared the shit out of some other swamp grower. I didn't find their site and chose not to use that swamp myself.

So, if it's not too late - sorry for the scare!

People in the woods - off trail -

People in the woods - off trail -

67 years old. grew up in Ky.

Note: not just deer hunters roam off trail. Some roam in search of dry land fish in the spring of the year, Others in search of ginseng and other medicinal herbs and wildflowers, Others roam in search of blackberry thickets, and so on.
I roamed for blackberries and in search of arrowheads. I picked blackberries from 10 thru 14 years of age. I knew where the thickets were and when they were ripe. When I harvested the berries from a thicket, the thicket looked like it was mowed.

Jellies, Jams, and Cobblers - yes.

Chigger -I used sulfur powder.

Thank you,
-
