Has Someone found my plants? 1001 ways to know...

I know 4 ways and im hoping the wisdom of other members willl provide the other 9097 ways.

1. One way in and one way out. This makes a path, but it leaves all other weeds and bushes intact. If someones been roaming around in the area, they mashed and leaned other weeds and you cant miss that.

2.$$$$$. I have a stainless money clip and i put a 5 and a couple of ones in it and drop it on my path just before you reach the plants. If its gone, you don't have a deer problem.

3. I use 4lb test monofiliment and place it across the path so that you cant come toward the plant without breaking through the thin mono. I have several of these on the path in so that if it was just a deer that went through them you will know.

4.In the winter, i scrape the sod off of a 4'x2' section of the path. Footprints show up on bare soil.

Lets hear 9097 more.

I like the money clip bit, that's a good idea, no one leaves money laying on the ground

Great tips Doc; look closely at the surrounding tree trunks to locate the field cameras; these have been used extensively the past few yrs outdoor. They take pics of you tending your grow

One dude near here was busted this way . . . got on work release. Guess where he went to work?

On his new grow!! No kidding,, could not believe it. Yes, busted again . . . now that is dedication!

1001 - 4 = 997 not 9097 :)

that said you can also find inexpensive wireless door sensors that will alert your the system it is connected (pc based normally) which in turn can trigger a camera and or alert you

one system I saw can be programmed to do what you want it to

door opens > trigger camera to take photo > have photo emailed to cell phone

sorry if i glazed over the fact you are probably focused on outdoor :) but it was in the security section

I think isolating the ways in or out, but also adding natural obstructions that NEED to be in some way interacted with

at these junctures, in the local areas here its easy enough to do this were there earth will leave signs via foot prints or animal tracks

man made ANYTHING is definitely a VERY BAD idea

all it is gonna do is have the ripper or leo or average dude go ohh its inhabited wonder were that person was going

if its leo he might put the money down and wait, so could a smart ripper.

If someone just passes by takes the dough and doesn't see it your gonna abandon the grow without cause. If the detection device is within eye shot of the grow they that defeats some of the purpose. Your almost luring ppl to look off the beaten path.

same with mono

a blockage of debris is not attractive

money, traps, man way here doing something

that makes em think like what?

your detection methods also need to be camouflaged or they will draw attention

Around here, leo dont wait for anything, they dont set up camera's - they dont even approach the land owner to see if he knows anything, they assume he dont. They cut the plants down and leave.

Our local sherrif eats at the little country diner up the road where i eat. Ive heard him tell others that last year, they recorded over 400 grows in the county and that he would need another 6 deputies just to try and cut pot down. They now have a policy to only cut felony grows which are more than 5 plants. With unemployment at 20+%, every guy with some seeds is a grower now days.

What's the matter with you man, aint you wearin your thinkin cap? Thats beer money!!! . My money clip never has been gone and believe me the bushwacking -claim jumping yahoo's around here arent gonna pass that by.

Actually, the monofilament line is the best . It cant be seen by the intruder and they cant avoid breaking through it on the path. With it, you can really determine if theyve found the plants.

Lucky 7 mentioned Field Cameras used to catch the person tending the grow so why not strike first by putting up a Field Camera used by Game Hunters that snap a pic then send it to your e-mail.

you will know who or what is around your grow. no surprises.

Just wanted to say how much I hate cameras! In my place every shop you enter, every time you walk the street someone is watching you! They even put cameras in a park!:mad:And police cameras on the growspot that's my worst nightmare.:fright:
Back on topic, you could put some soft soil or sand around the spot, so everyone that comes close inevitably leaves trace.I also read somewhere about leaving a cheap pocket knife, but that's basiclly the same trick as leaving money.

strangly enough my plants never seem get found...i just seem to find other people's plants. never stole a nug from anyone, but i have found several outdoor grows in the wood near my house. i'm glad to see no mentioned putting up fishing hooks, or digging little holes with spikes in the bottm.

Some good info here.

When im going out to my spot i am very very cautious. I walk very slowly and survey the area really well. Try and remember as much as you can and when you go back see if anything has changed. Im always looking for foot prints too.

One thing i noticed is if your walking to your spot and you spook some deer not so far from your plants. You can be pretty certain that no one is down there. Also like squirrels and other type of animals around probably means no one else is.

I am absolutely going to leave a cheep pocket knife on my trail, that is a great tip and wont cost you the loss of some cash or a money clip.

Monofilament? I wear moccasins in the woods or go barefoot... always in a dress, long or short. I would most DEF notice if I broke a monofilament line... My eyes are bad, but that would tip me off there's a grow nearby for sure.

IMHO, nothing spells security like a huge thicket of blackberry, surrounded by poke salad... under a thin canopy of pines... Lots of deadfall, saw briar & stuff like that helps. If you can create a "clearing" in the center of the blackberry thicket, your crop is almost guaranteed safe. Go back in only 1 time - to harvest. Those tiny thorns are a bitch...

BTW - pee all over the outside perimeter of the thicket every week or so & always after a heavy rain... keeps deer away from the thicket...

I once visited a potential spot and was surprised by a game camera on the way out. I did have my mattock tool with me so was able to pry the camera off the tree and take it with me for disposal. I only noticed it because it used a flash when coming out at evening but didn't make any other noise. It _would_ have caught me good if not for the flash. It was a very terrifying experience.

Sorry, to the owner, but I didn't feel I had any other choice at the time.

Even though it was a "potential" grow spot and you wernt doing anything illegal... always better safe than sorry i say.

Great thread... i live in a coatal area, very close to a river. One of my spots is in a salt water marsh, its a bitch to grow in cause of the salt and constant moisture, but its also good cause people dont like snakes, ticks and tons of mosquitos. I have alot of saw grass around, and if someone walks on it, i will be able to tell... also alot of mud, its hard to cover tracks once someone has been there.....There are ways around it, but its a very hard walk, through blackberry bushes, thornes and devils canes......I have alot of plants spread out back there, and I HATE going back there, I almost stepped on a snake the other day.....but its a great place, its a cutover, and was logged about 10 years ago...so the pine trees are about 10 feet high, with some magnolias and then alot of small bushes and throns and shit..So its a great place...If I was a cop and i saw some plants their, theres no way i would walk through that shit.....Just last Saturday night, I picked 4 ticks off my leg in a 4 inch square spot...had 4 ticks in between my 2 fingers at once...Its nasty out there, but its worth it to me....

I always bring my dog with me and a turkey call, just incase i see anyone, I have 2 options, If my dogf is off playing, ill just act like Im looking for her, and if shes close, i act like Im messing around calling for turkeys....never had a scare yet though....

Places like this that are really thick, people like to walk through and brake small limbs and other plants in the way.....I always look for broken limbs, cause thats no no, in my book....Shit grows so fast back there that I find it hard sometimes to find my own shit....

Thanks D.S. Toker....nice thread man.
