What I mean is has anyone ever been arrested for a crime based on a signed statement to the police made by someone.

Myself and a handful of friends were arrested when one of them got caught and signed a statement against the rest of us......

And it was weed related....Many moons ago......

I know of warrants that were issued because an "informant" narced...
Now if the informant knew for sure of the operation...I'm not sure...because it was a small grow that got rolled...

I was arrested one time Not cannabis related,I was building a new deck on my house
on a Sunday ( only day off ) And the guy next door an old man comes in my yard .

He was dunker than a coon dog telling me i can't be working on sunday how it was the sabeth and what ever.
I told him get off my f--king property and he pull a gun on me.
I said to him "Old man Ill kill you, you MF)

Well he left went to the court house ,signed an affidavit, About 2 hr's later i was arrested .
Spent the night in jail,Wasn't to bad seen and old buddy in there who had some bud so got high.

Next morn i go in front of the judge,They called my name i told what happened and the judge said thats what they said too.
Then the judge looked at me all surprised. Then he was like WHO the HELL signed this!!!

He then told the cop to unhandcuff me and to get me my clothes!!!
Then he said charges drop your free to go.

I asked this question because one of the members here doen't think a person can be arrested just on someone's statement. I wanted him to see it happens all the time....

So there was no investigation JJ? They arrested you strictly on someone's heresay? That is fucked up, I hope you didn't have to serve time.

Yes, a friend once told his soon to be ex wife (over the telephone) that it would be cheaper to have her killed. Picked up within the hour, spent the HOLIDAY weekend in county jail. :)

A couple friends and I purchased some weed. One guy did something foolish and he got caught with a pound. The goofy bastard got so scared he spilled the whole story, lol.... The rest of us got arrested....for his weed.... They got him somehow to say it was all of ours, or so they said. He was so scared I think he just signed what they put in front of him. We kept our yaps shut throughout the whole ordeal and plea bargained down to almost nothing. He got the worst of it.....he got jail and probation.... This was a long time ago and the charges were pretty hefty at the time....

No, you can not be arrested based on somebody's signed statement.

Judges must issue warrants based on probable cause, NOT heresay.

The story you relate is, indeed, a result of probable cause,
based not on your stupid friend's signed statement,
but that pound of pot the cops confiscated from him.

This is a different matter altogether.
Threats like this are against the law now.

One time this girl bought some E off a friend of mine and she ended up sighning a statement against him.. It was a terrible scenario.. She was high and struck a very drunk man outside a bar with her car and killed him.. She actually wasn't at fault because the man walked out across a highway barrier.. Anyway they said since she was under the influence she was going to be charged with vehicular manslaughter.. So they made her sigh a statement that she was driving high and that she purchased drugs off my friend.. He was arrested and charged almost as severly as her.. In the end tho since she got off on the manslaughter charge my friend only pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute... She still was in jail for alittle while, lost her license and had heavy fines.. They tried to say he was liable because he sold the drugs to the girl who caused the accident.. In the end tho it was proven she didn't cause the accident the man did.. But it was enough for them to secure a warrent and get his house searched and they uncovered a few pills at his house... The whole thing was a mess my friend literally was about to jump off a bridge... But to answer the question the police can secure a search warrent if somebody fingers them in a crime.. Look at that show The First 48... They get warrents all the time from witnesses coming forward and saying so and so was the killer..

Actually I was going to say no and you were full of it JJ. :) It seems so hard to imagine someone could make a story up and have you arrested w/o any proof.

But it has happened to me. When I was a teen I got into a scuffle with my g/f. Several hours later in another city, I was pulled over because a BOLO was issued for me and I had a unique car so it was easy. I had a handful of witnesses and that didnt matter. I wasnt even questioned, just cuffed and hauled off to jail. I was told someone had to go to jail because it was domestic.

So yes it does happen, one persons word against anothers

LJ I think you are confusing search warrants and arrest warrants. Cops can arrest anyone they want if they have enough cause.

just to clarify, there was no warrant from a judge in my case. The cops issued the BOLO and arrest order. Yes I had a private atty and saw every document that was processed in that case.

Every time a statement is signed, it's by a friend, family member or acquaintance...the later being the more powerful statement (less likely to be whacked)....but that isn't entirely truthful, I am not sure where killing people is legit....other than something happened or not.
